Default Unexplained Weight Gain

Ok- can not exercising for 4 days or so cause water retention? I haven't gone off my plan AT ALL. I have had a bad cold and bronchitis and I haven't been on the treadmill since Mondayish.

Yesterday morning (Friday) I weigh and I am suddenly up 2.5 pounds, and today, approximately that much more. I don't understand! I feel like I might have slight water retention in my fingers, but I doubt 5 pounds worth. This is really, REALLY frustrating! I am taking cold medicine and antibiotics. Probably not enough fluids - but still, 5 pounds??

yep, probably water retention. Just drink those fluids and hope you feel better soon!

Sure thing! Drink more water. Your body is hoarding water because it thinks the source is running dry and it knows you are fighting an infection. Glug! Glug!

Thanks!! I'll wait a couple of days to weigh again, after I've flushed out my too-much-whole-grains-in-one-day I've had today.

Water retention...when you have a cold your body can retain fluids, because if you get a fever you will dehydrate.....you will lose it, just stick to what your doing, drink water and wait it out...that will go away...

Antibiotics can also be the reason.

Soon all will be back to normal.

I bet the inches are gone even if the weight has fluctuated.

Oh, yeah. It's all water, baby. Keep drinking it... you'll flush out that cold.

Thanks everybody, you made me feel much better. I went ahead and weighed this morning to see which direction I was going and I lost 3, so now I am only up 2.5 still. Hopefully it will keep going in the downward direction! It's been a weird week. I've never been sick this long. Now Rob and Cody are getting it.
