August 2019 Thread South Beach
Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit! Thinking of you Ruth!
Good morning and welcome to another month on the Beach. Feel free to join us we are a small group and have not been checking in daily but we do check in. |
Good morning,
Another beautiful day here, yesterday got my Mammo and first shingle shot. My arm is sore from the shot, hopefully will be gone soon. I have to get the second shot in 2 months which falls right when DD2 wedding in St. Thomas is. I may wait until we get back to get it, depending on how long my arm is sore this time. Last night after work, I touched up the deck paint, not quite finished but ran out of paint so will need to run and get another can of paint. I also touched up on weeding so it doesn't get so bad again. Scale went down again today after another successful day op, so I am like Beth back to pre vacation weight from early June. I am hoping for another 3 lbs this month. Have a great day everyone! |
Hello August!
Thanks for getting a new month started, Pearlrose. A St Thomas destination wedding sounds amazing! Beth, I bet your fresh blueberries are especially delicious. I'm thinking ricotta pancakes...yum! I spent most of the day in the kitchen yesterday mixing up gazpacho with fresh local mkt tomatoes, Kayln's pesto with my own basil (I do grow herbs in pots & it's the best season I've had here) & an awesome Greek yogurt marinade for skinless chicken DH grilled. Once again, wine was too tempting with those dishes & I did enjoy a couple glasses. We usually have a crisp Pinot Grigio in the refrig in the summer. I try to cut back on other extras when I do indulge. Not feeling too bad, but realize it makes losing even slower. I was hoping to see some meteor showers the last couple nights, but it's been cloudy here at night. Today looks nice for now & my calendar's wide open! I'm off to enjoy!! Hope all ya'll do too✌ |
Good afternoon chicks.
This morning I went for a walk and picked up a few things at the grocery store, now I am in a holding pattern waiting for the AC serviceman. Although we have not had any problems the past few days the unit was leaking this past weekend and we thought it should be checked over. I'm hoping it is just a clog in the drain pipe. Food is on track. I know the next few pounds will come off slowly but I am hoping for 2 more this month. Cenari, I've got an overabundance of herbs right now. I need to give some away or start chopping and freezing them for winter. And yes, the blueberries are yummy. Mostly I've been enjoying them in my yogurt. Pearlrose, great job on the food and the painting project as well. I spent Tuesday morning weeding; once a week is about what I need for maintenance. Enjoy the day all! |
Good morning,
Another beautiful morning and my last day wfh for about 12 weeks, so I am enjoying the nice view outside. This weekend need to go school shopping on Saturday since it is tax free weekend and Sunday driving up to meet DD1 for another dress fitting. Cenari that homemade pesto sounds delish! Beth hope the ac was not a big deal for you. I love blueberries, like using them in smoothies, but in pancakes would be good. I ordered a paleo pancake mix from Amazon that is made from almound and coconut flour haven't tried out yet. Have a great day everyone! |
Good morning,
Quick check in for me, yesterday was crazy, my mom went to ER because she was having trouble breathing, got released at 1 p.m. mainly dehydrated and low potassium so she will buy a supplement. Thanks goodness that all it was. Then I found out my uncle passed away at 3:30 p.m., sad for his kids and family but he was 89 years old, so good life. Have a great day everyone! |
Good afternoon chicks.
Pearlrose, what a stressful day for you! Sorry to hear about your uncle. Hoping today was better. Not much to report here. The garden is finally producing. I tried a new zucchini recipe last night which was tasty. Sometimes I think about reducing my veggie garden but I love the fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. Food has been mostly good. I (intentionally) had a bit of a splurge this weekend and of course my weight went up but that is to be expected. Lifestyle not diet, right? Cenari and Debbie, hope all is well with you. Have a great rest of the day, chicks. |
Good morning chicks!
Pearlrose, I'm sorry about your uncle. Losing a family member is never easy. Glad your Mom's ok, were they siblings? I'm struggling with how far to go with my Mom's healthcare. This week she told me her doc told her to stop all her meds. She knew enough to stay on the most critical, but I am concerned & will call the doc before her next appt. Beth, what zucchini recipe did you try? There are so many good ones. Our neighbor brought over some blossoms & chard yesterday. He has a hydrophonic thing going & the vegs are beautiful! My weight's been stuck again. I'll def have maintenance down whenever I get to goal. I should get back to a strict phase 1-1.5. But, we have guests coming Sat for a few days & that wouldn't be much fun. It will be DH's DD & her family's 1st visit since we moved. I'll plan to hold steady until next week. Have a great day all✌ |
Good afternoon,
What a crazy busy week it has been for me but wanted to stop by and check in. My interview was yesterday, I think it went well but it will depend on what he is looking for. We should find out later next week who got positions so either way I will know. Trying to keep food at Phase 1.5 to 2 right now. I sent my doc an email today since I have not heard about the shot for the knee and it has been 3 weeks. Beth that is definitely what this plan is about lifestyle. I wish I had a garden but just don't have time to take care of it. Cenari my uncle was my dad's brother. Hope you get your mom's med's straightened out. Have a great day |
Good Morning!
Ceneri, I hope you get an answer from the Doc regarding your mom's medications. It can be a challenge. Nice recipes you've been trying. Rose, I hope you finally get an answer one way or the other regarding the new position. I'm sorry to hear of your Uncle's passing. Let us know about the paleo pancakes. Beth, I have cut down on gardening but never had one as large or as productive as yours. This year our spring and early summer was cool. I am just now starting to get tomatoes in my little greenhouse and will have cukes by next week. Once my cucumbers start I'll have tons. Think I will try canning some pickles since I use them in my work sandwich. Sorry I'm not here much....just trying to keep up with life these days. I still keep plugging away trying to make good food choices. I have been taking my own lunch to the restaurant now since Dec. 21. Seems it's all about changing habits for me. We went to the Grand Canyon and it was fun but quick. We have also been going to Glenwood every Sunday night returning on Tuesday which gets me to my water yoga class. That's been nice. I have also made a decision to work at the restaurant until next May....beginning or end of, I'm not sure. There is a lot of drama there and now that my mom is gone it really messes with my ability to be flexible with travel. When I asked for the Sunday off for Grand Canyon the boss was condescending. After 10 years, I figure that was a bit too rude for me. I'm starting to stash $$ in the "retirement fund". I actually have a good amount already which just needs to cover those large expenses. I had wanted to pay off Laundromat before quitting but think I am ready now. lol I travel again Aug 21-25. Back to Key West with my Bro. He will be in Colorado for several days so my Sis and I will both accompany him back. So that's catching up. I'll be back when I get to my computer again. |
Good morning chicks and Happy Saturday.
Not much new around here. I'm trying to enjoy the weather and get outside often; we are already halfway through August and I know what comes next in terms of weather.....but we won't talk about that right now! ;) Food has been good; I'm sticking to P1.5 and the scale is slowly moving down. I've been looking for new recipes to try and might try out a few keto recipes, although I would reduce the fat content. Debbie, good to hear your news. Glad you are doing some traveling and getting in your water aerobics. Our local university used to offer several exercise courses but I think they have greatly reduced those. Pearlrose, hope you hear about your job and knee soon! Lots of stress for you right now. Cenari, in a way I've been lucky this month: no visitors and no special events. It makes it SO much easier to stay OP, especially when we are just getting back into the groove. Our weather is cooler today so I am going to bake some of the breakfast cheesecakes, although I make them an evening snack. I'll also probably make some mini quiches; they work well for my breakfast. Have a good day all! |
What a good read!

Good morning,
Just finished my house chores and also colored my hair, so now I am ready to do something this afternoon. Long week getting used to go into work each day (I know I was spoiled with wfh). Still waiting to hear back from the doc about shot for knee. Just taking it day by day and trying to make good food choices each day. Debbie glad you were able to check in, it sounds like you have been super busy. Good for you making a decision about work, I hope it all works out for you. Enjoy your time with your brother and sister. I think I am going to try the pancakes tomorrow will let you all know. Beth I need to make some stuff so I have quick grabs for work for better choices. Have a great day |
Hi Ladies, I have not posted in a long time but used to. I am needing to get back to South Beach. I have about 30 lbs to shed and unlike last time I have developed an IBS problem which is aggravated by lactose intolerance. So my question is this can we have almond milk or almond milk creamer? It doesn't mess w my stomach & I use it in my coffee. I don't like the taste of soy at all😝 and I didn't see any milk alternatives on the food list or the SB website. Thanks.
|
Good evening.
Today was another exciting day for me: laundry and yardwork. What a life, right? Weight is steady and and food is mostly OP. Cenari, I've made 2 zucchini recipes in the last week. The first one was Parmesan style (mix shredded zucchini with LF mozzarella and bake; bread crumb topping optional). The second was the fried zucchini from the P1 recipes. Dip slices in egg white, dust with Parmesan and bake. I was quite excited to find a zucchini plant in my compost pile the other day that had 2 squash ready to pick! Welcome back Pearlygirly! The P1 food list is under the FAQ sections and almond milk is definitely allowed. https://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/sbd...ay-2008-a.html Join us often. Debbie and Pearlrose. Hope everyone had a good start to their week. |

Good morning chicks.
pearlygirly, sorry about that; you are correct. I guess I lump all the milk options (soy, almond, etc) together. Personally I think almond milk works for P1. DH and I are going on a little drive to the mountains today, just because it is a lovely summer day. We'll stop for lunch salads somewhere. Have a good day all! |
Good morning chicks!
The zucchini recipes sound good, Beth, as does a mountain drive. Welcome pearlygirl! I do think Almond milk is ok on Ph1 too & use it in my coffee, if nowhere else as an 'extra', the original unsweetened kind. I find a lot of good info on The Palm web site too. Hi Pearlrose & Lexxiss, hope all is well. I still have catch up on posts to do. All quiet here for a couple days, then a meet for lunch partway with DDs Sat. I have been off plan & it's always tough to refocus. I've been avoiding the scale & fear it may be creeping up this time. I plan a few days back on Ph1 starting Monday. DH has something planned today & has yet to fill me in. I'm enjoying a little bit of quiet time until then. Have a great day all✌ |

Good evening,
Sorry haven't checked in a few days busy days now that I have to go in all the time. Stopped by Aldi's on my way home and loaded up with fresh veggies and fruits and healthy food so I am good to good again. Took my lunch to work today so made sure it was healthy. Still no word on jobs, hopefully either tomorrow or next week we will hear one way or the other. Still haven't heard back from doc either I send an email asking for an update on the 8th may have to call. This weekend will be busy, going up to DD1's for couple bridal shower and then DD2 and I are spending the night and going to another fitting for the dress. DD2 started school yesterday, but she now drives herself, just have to make sure that she actually gets up lol. Hi Pearlygirl, I don't drink Almond milk but I do drink unsweetened coconut milk and never had a problem. I think as long it is the unsweetened version you should be good. I avoid Soy and if I ate too many almonds I have a reaction so... Cenari it's hard to get back on track Beth sounds like you have quite a few veggies coming in yum. Debbie I can't remember when you said you were visiting your brother, hope you are enjoying family. Have a great day everyone! |
Good morning chicks.
It is a quiet day here today: the weather is overcast with rain later so I will not do yard work. I might make a quick grocery run and pick up a few items. Pearlrose, showers and dress fittings are exciting! It's different having only boys, there was never anything pink in my house. lol Hope you get good news on the job front this week. Cenari, did you have a nice visit with DD? Debbie, it's nice you can spend more time with your brother. pearlygirly, I have been on Kalyn's site a lot lately looking for new ideas. DH is doing SB with me right now so I've converted all the eating and cooking to it. Here's a question: anyone know where coconut flour goes on the food list? I'm guessing P2 but can't find a definitive answer. I made some bread with flax meal and coconut flour yesterday. It is pretty good but the texture is a bit like cornbread. Have a good day, all. |
Good evening. This weekend was definitely busier than I would have liked. I thought the same thing about the coconut flour & coconut sugar too after PearlRose mentioned coconut milk. But I have 2 weeks til I can even entertain such thoughts. Worked today & had a really sloppy roommate move out Saturday so no chance for a good food prep. I did shop & get veggies, V8, ground turkey for at least a couple days. I figure I can boil off a couple eggs to eat before work & I was planning taco bake for dinner (I have ingredients for it). Lunch is something called Tuscan Tuna Salad that I make which is a mayo-less tuna mixed into white beans. Anyway hope you all have great weeks tomorrow.
|
Hi pearlygirly. I suspect coconut sugar is P2 since it has a low glycemic index so maybe the flour is also?
Just a normal Monday here. I'm doing laundry after hitting the grocery store. Such an exciting life! I've got half a pan of leftover tacobake in my fridge too so that's dinner. Have a good day all. |
Hi Chicks🙋
Glad to read all your updates. I am so ready to get back to plan today, I was almost there most the weekend. I started tracking 'cheats' too, which helps me from straying too far. As I feared, weight's up, but only 2#s thankfully. I hope to lose that this week & then get back to losing steady. DDs visits were very special & I'll be off for more grandbaby time Wed, just until Fri. They are keeping me busy, thank goodness for retirement. Kalyn's Kitchen is one of my favorite recipe sites. She raves about the tuna in evoo, but I haven't tried it yet. Also, when I'm unsure if an ingredient is SB ok, I have compared nutritional info to a similar listed item, esp carb & sugar info or GI if avail. I'm certainly no expert & not opposed to a little creativity, especially if I get results. Have a great week all✌ |
Hi a'll. Popping in to say hi before my 5,001st start on Ph1. Getting recipes done and such. Things are okay on my end. I keep going through phases of my ankylosing spondylitis - on plan feel great, new med, gain weight back. I am over it. So, back on the beach for me. Hope you all are well!
Jenn |
Good afternoon,
Busy week again but going to try and stop by more frequent. Still no news on either front for me. Trying to make good food choices and have incorporated hand weights to do some upper body exercises along with the PT exercises for knees. Cenari and Beth I think Coconut flour would probably be Phase 2, unsweetened coconut milk is Phase 1 if I am just drinking it I add a pinch of stevia. Pearlygirl looks like you have a food plan Hi Jenn I think you are joining the rest of that are doing either Phase 1 or Phase 1.5 Have a great day everyone |
Happy Hump day. I mostly have a plan but didn't realize how much sugar I was eating & the cravings I would have. Last night, I found a last half pint of premium ice cream my former roommate left behind. So today is a new day & guess I need to look for sweet snacks because evenings get me. I had cottage cheese w 1pkg Splenda & cinnamon for breakfast that was pretty sweet & we'll see how my stomach feels about it. Hope everyone has a good, productive day.
|
Good morning,
Had a good op plan day it makes such a difference in how you feel, going for day, I am doing Phase 1.5 adding a bit of fruit in. I sent an email asking about positions and now I am supposed to meet with a coworker and talk to him about positions and then talk to the VP afterwards, so vague lol. I think at least they are thinking of me for a position, one of my coworkers had same response and is meeting our coworker for lunch today so I will get the scoop from him what the heck is going on. Praying that coworker didn't get the manager position and is filling positions under him. (the one we have to meet with) Sorry I am venting lol. So glad I am on op and staying focused. Heard back from doc and they are still waiting on approval for medication so still a waiting game, I have managed to drop down dosage of tylenol and motrin but if I stop it starts hurting again so not quite there. Hope everyone is doing well, Have a great day. |
Hi Chicks🙋
As often the case, my plan to get back on plan didn't go as planned. I finally accepted & recorded my weight up a couple #s from last low. Looking ahead we have more travel Fri thru next week. So, now my new plan is to hold steady until we get back from the coast in Sept (assuming we don't get diverted by a hurricane like last year). Pearlrose, I really hope you get some straight answers at work this week. I can't imagine the frustration, uncertainty is the worst, imho. Beth, are you getting ready for back to school? Summer has really flown by around here. Hope everyone else is well & looking forward to your updates. Have a wonderful week all ya'll✌ |
Good morning chicks.
Just a quick check in to say food has been pretty good (P1.5, mostly adding some berries) but weight has been bobbing up and down. Those first few weeks on P1 are so gratifying with the big drop but I knew the next pounds would come off slowly. We are getting a preview of fall weather; cool nights and lower humidity. The gardens are really winding down as well. Soon it will be time to get some mums. Pearlrose, hope you get some good news soon. Cenari, hang in there. Food is hard to control when you are traveling. Just make "best choices" Have a good day all. |
Good afternoon,
Busy week again, food has slipped again trying to do my best to make good choices. Found out the other person did get the mgr position but it is looking pretty good that me and my other co worker will get positions under him, just waiting on the call from HR to offer. Hopefully will have good news by end of week to report. Still waiting on doc for knee. Our water heater sprung a leak so I had to get a bunch of quotes but getting it replaced on Friday, can't believe ours lasted for 22 years. Cenari enjoy your travels Beth glad you are making good food choices, I have been more of phase 3 instead of 1.5 this past week Have a wonderful evening. |
Good morning! along time since I’ve checked in. Sorry. I still focus on good food choices. Just busy. Beth, Summer is winding down here, as well. I have lots of cherry tomatoes in the greenhouse but my cucumber blossoms all fizzled while I was away. Potatoes and corn are looking good this year. Rose, that’s a long time for a hot water heater. At least they are easy to replace and not too expensive. I’m glad to hear you are finally hearing some word with the job situation. It’s been a long and frustrating road. Same with your knee. My sister is investigating stem cell for her shoulder. I’m just trying not to injure anything new right now. Ceneri, I hope this hurricane doesn’t spoil your plans. Good for you recording a wait to close to your low. My weight had really shut up when I got back from the trip and yesterday I was down 6 pounds. I think travel really affects things. I was in Key West last week. Got back late Monday then had to go into full gear to get Kirk to the airport yesterday. Made some stops along the way and picked up some fresh organic produce I’m going to do a little canning today. Peaches, which I make with agave instead of sugar, salsa and pickles, so far. I’m trying to reduce my use of so-called recyclables, since it seems it’s getting more difficult to determine if they are really recycled or not. I’m starting this morning with pickles since they are the easiest. I’m going to have to go to the laundromat soon as I have a repair person coming. Back to work tomorrow at the restaurant. Id best get moving. Think I will change into my clean clothes and be ready to head to the laundromat when I get the call. Sometimes I get the call 45 minutes early and other times he’s already there. Enjoy these last few days of August. Hard to believe my official summer is over. |
Good morning (still is here),
I wanted to let everyone know I did get the position am happy about that. Will still be doing current role until Dec 6 when transition occurs but don't have to worry now. Got a call from knee doc as well and my insurance will not cover the shot so I need to see what the medication costs in Canada and see if it is too expensive to purchase. New supplement has been helping but still have to take tylenol and motrin in low dose. Debbie sounds like you have been super busy, hard to believe that it is the end of the summer. This weekend will be helping my son and his gf move into their new house Have a great weekend. |
