First May weekend chat 5/7-8

Good morning! We have a gloriously sunny day today, a nice switch since the entire week the forecast was for an all-rain weekend. :carrot:

So today will be an outside day: lots of yard and garden work, maybe a walk. I have some perennials that have self-seeded; I will rearrange a few and dig a few to give to a friend. I suppose I should do some laundry.....but we will see if I get to it.

Right now I'm just sipping my coffee.

Mother's Day Weekend - May 6th & 7th
 

Good morning to us all. We all have mothers and some of us are mothers so this is the weekend to think about mothering and appreciation. I don't expect even a card from the dogs but already have flowers from my son and DD.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day and I did get some outside things done. My hands have been rather sore from the treadmill episode but I was able to use my secateurs to trim the dead vines out of the clematis which now looks much happier. I am getting the urge to plant my veggies but know it's too early - aside from that, my raised bed has fallen apart on one side and needs some kind and strong person to hammer it back together or else remove the sides completely so I can just bend and plant.

The garden centres will be jammed with folk today buying plants for Mom but I know it's too early to set out anything tender. We often have a killing frost around the 20th. I may get some hanging baskets next week and try to remember to bring them indoors if frost threatens.

Looking forward to dinner with the girlfriends and kids tonight and to BBQ tomorrow afternoon with my son, DIL and granddaughter at the in-laws place. Sure wish my DD wasn't so far away in Nanaimo.

The dogs are zzzing away on their bed but I'm resisting the urge to go back to bed and will just crank up the day!

Beth please send some sun downstate. Another gloomy rainy day here. At least yesterday it forced me to clean. It's funny I really don't have to clean often since DS moved. I think I am almost in good I'd shape for Monday. Today I am going to check out a bike shop in Piermont. I am looking for a handlebar bike bag a little bigger than the one I have. Hopefully we will get some sun the afternoon so I can stretch my legs.

Ruth sounds like you have a nice weekend planned. As much as I want to get some hanging basked for outside, I am going to hold off until next week. I'm not sure if DS will remember it's Mother's Day tomorrow. I always have a hard time around holidays. I get really nostalgic and weepy (I know my hormones are playing a huge role in the weepy part lol). I really wish I lived closer to my mom.

Good morning, Ruth and Jennifer! I think everyone has hanging baskets on the mind! I sent one to my Mom and will probably shop for one for myself. I don't expect my boys to send anything more than a text but it's the thought that counts.

Ruth, sounds like a fun weekend! Enjoy yourself. (you probably should have kept your title since it's more appropriate;))
Jennifer, I figure our extra day of sun balances out some of the winter weather you don't get. lol Good luck on your bike bag shopping.

Looks like we are going to be sunny and in the 80s today. Plans are to go to garage sales this morning (city wide garage sell today) and then we are going to get pedi's. Need to clean this afternoon.

Good morning!

Kirk is still committed to helping me in the yard for an hour each morning. Day two and he was ready to go so I had to drop what I was doing and go with the flow. We are trying to reclaim areas that I've been just Grassfield so he dead grass and I worked on the raspberry patch. It's growing every year and so I dig out the grass around it so more shoots have space to come up. As much as I use raspberries in the smoothies I can't ever have too many raspberries freeze so well.

I am sitting outside with the dog having more coffee then I'm going to go do some planting. I made a big order of dormant plants. I've never done that before and will see how it works this year.

Happy Mother's Day to all!!! Whether your children have two or four legs it counts in my book! I am beginning to think I should start building an arc! So much for a morning ride. DS actually called me yesterday!!! He wanted me to know he is working until 4, but we will come over after. I asked him what he wanted for dinner. He said its Mother's Day your choice. That's enough of a present for me. I think we might get take out and eat here. This way we are not rushed. I woukd like to go to Carvel (sorry) for a soft serve vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles. DS and I used to get them and eat in the way back of my old Explorer. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I got quite a bit done outside yesterday: a walk, a trip to buy a hanging basket, I even dug the sod, constructed and filled my raised bed and planted some lettuce, spinach and herbs. Today will be an inside day since it is raining. Probably need to check on the laundry situation and complete some cleaning I started yesterday.

I agree with Jekel it's Mother's day where your kids have 2 or 4 feet :) I got everything accomplished yesterday, we got our pedi's done (though had to go to a couple of places before we found one that had time busy day) and got all of the cleaning done so I can enjoy today. We have reservations at the Spaghetti Factory (planned cheat meal) for this afternoon. They do serve whole wheat pasta now though.

If it doesn't rain we may go to the Zoo prior to that. What's everyone plans for today?

The dogs were quiet until seven so I'm feeling rested after a great evening with friends last night. It was BBQ burgers (which will also be today's menu) and she also had an excellent cabbage/kale cole slaw. It was nice to be picked up and driven home by Karen's son Ben. We could hear the spring peepers when we pulled into my lane.

Today was supposed to be rainy but it's a gloriously sunny day instead. Nice for Mother's Day. I remember one MD when I woke brilliant sunshine and my red tulips filled with snow. I plan to just do some puttering around things this morning and have a leisurely soak in the tub before leaving for Kemptville for yet another BBQ with DIL Wendy's family. It'll be nice to drive home in daylight.

Smoothie and two cups of coffee in. It is so dark I should put on a light, but that coukd wake the pups. Guess this is there MD gift to me. Sleeping in during the rain lol.
