Elli "Quark" - Is it ok on Phase I?
I'm trying to find if this product, Elli brand Quark is ok on Phase 1. The following is off their website:
"Elli Quark is a spoonable FRESH CHEESE with a creamy texture similar to Greek yogurt, but with a richer, LESS SOUR taste. It also has a better protein-to-carb ratio than Greek yogurt, with HIGH PROTEIN and NO ADDED SUGARS or artificial sweeteners". The following are nutritional values: 0g fat 5g erythritol Sugars 6g added sugar 0g Carbs 11g. On Phase 1 rules, it says plain yogurt is ok, and the majority of fat free plain yogurts out there are more sugars and more carbs than Quark...sometimes double that of Quark. Sooooo, the question is.....is this ok for Phase 1?:?: |
In my opinion, YES. I just wish I could find it around here.

It's delicious. :) I don't like the standard yogurt because it's too tart for me, so this is spot on.
It tends to be in organic sections of the chain supermarkets around here, or the "healthier" type food stores...maybe they have it at those types of stores near you? |
I used to buy it all the time when I lived in Ottawa but have never seen it here in the boonie. A Hungarian friend introduced me to it and we used to make a spread called Liptauer . I'm sure a South Beach compliant spread could be made from it. I also remember making a sweetened dessert with artificial brown sugar and cinnamon.
Experiment and post your recipe ideas. |
The only thing I'd warn about is that erythritol is a sugar alcohol - which sometimes will contribute to cravings for more sugar. If you're finding you're hungry or craving sweets after eating it, I'd avoid it. (never mind sugar alcohols can cause...side effects ;) )

Thanks Tammy! Good to know! :)
