Cheese Crisps

I have not read the book yet but plan to and have been lurking. Thanks for the cheese crisps idea. ( sorry I don't remember who it was) I made a couple of them last night and they were delish! I have a feeling they will be a life saver to satisfy my crunchie need.:smug:

Can't wait til I get paid today so I can get the book...yippeee:D

didi123 07-18-2003 02:13 PM

I missed that...what are the cheese crisps???
Di

sflake 07-18-2003 02:18 PM

all you do is: spray a little pam on a microwaveable dish and put the cheese on it then microwave for approx. 2 minutes. it comes out crunchy. I added a little garlic powder but I'm sure you can use anything. You have to play around with the time to see what your microwave is like. in a word DELISH and takes care of the crunchie monster

didi123 07-18-2003 02:34 PM

ooooohhh...yummy...
could be a trigger for me though....:(

When I'm stronger...I'll give them a shot..
Thanks,
Di

Hey SFlake,
What kind of cheese did you use? I have been eating FF American slices. But I haven't tried microwaving them!

Ruthxxx 07-19-2003 06:55 AM

I am going to try this with FF slices. I know it works with regular cheese (not allowed on SBD) but I find FF cheese is an entirely different critter.

sflake 07-19-2003 09:35 AM

bobo1968 thats what I used, FF American. Next time I might try adding a litte dill.

bobo1968 07-19-2003 10:27 PM

Sounds good. I LOVE cheese, so I'm gonna try that tomorrow. No use doing it tonight-I jsut ate pizza!!!!! I'm a doofus!!!!!!

I use low fat mozzarella...I shred it first, sprinkle it with spices (chill powder and garlic work well)and then nuke on a dish sprayed with Pam.

I find all of the cheeses very salty this way and usually don't eat much cheese because of the sodium content...but it is a nice little treat every couple weeks.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you microwave cheese slices, don't they melt? Can someone please explain how to make these? I have 2% American cheese slices, will this work?

meg 1+2 07-21-2003 12:38 AM

Yes Agb...it does melt!! and then it starts getting hard and almost lacey looking. When they cool they are crisp...sort of like a chip...you must use your imagination

It is a good cure for those days when you are craving salt and crunch!!

Try them...you won't know till you do :D

I never made these before but did last night.

For Agb1-
I sprayed a plate with Pam, put on one fat free cheese slice and zapped for 1 min and 30 seconds. I sort of scraped it off the plate with a knife and let it cool a bit. I'm sure this would work with 2% cheese too.

Absolutely delicious! I'm addicted!

sflake 07-21-2003 07:44 AM

If you put a piece of saran wrap on the plate it makes removing them easier.

SandiLu 07-21-2003 06:13 PM

Wow! I made this with a slice of the 2% cheese. It was TOO good! I mean, I can't start making these for myself, it will be a real red-light thing for me. My 11 year old son (kind of chubby) loved it too. Yesterday he was looking for a snack and decided to make himself two of these instead of having the chips my hubby brought home, which was great. He thought he was having something really bad, too;) If he thinks I'm trying to pass off something healthy, he won't eat it.

dentrassi 07-21-2003 09:00 PM

ooh! I'm going to have to try that!! I bet my kids will eat it too...

ellis 07-21-2003 10:33 PM

Who are you kidding?! Your boys will eat ANYTHING! :D

dentrassi 07-22-2003 01:40 AM

NOPE!! DS16 won't eat Sushi or mushrooms. DS13 won't drink milk, eat bologna, peanut butter, fruit (except for oranges), broccoli, or avocados. He is FINALLY starting to eat bread though!!!!

bobo1968 07-23-2003 12:47 AM

Hey guys I have a stupid question-who's surprised??? I live near the beach, and was going to take my boys for the day Thursday. Anyway, I know I'll be fine at lunch, but I was going to take some of the cheese crisps for snacks. Do you think they'll be safe without refridgeration? I will nuke them at home. I've had salmonella before, and I'm paranoid about spoiled food!!!!!!!

sflake 07-23-2003 07:36 AM

bobo...I would wrap them and put them in a cooler. Better safe then sorry.

ellis 07-23-2003 07:52 AM

I'm sure they'll be fine, Kim. Cheese will keep for a fair while without being refridgerated. They might get a bit icky with the heat, though. Maybe you should loosely wrap them in a paper towel inside your container.

twodogmom 07-23-2003 08:37 PM

I tried this tonight....

I used low fat cheddar cheese with a little garlic powder, and I'm hooked!! It was fabulous, thanks for the idea.:T
