Monday Beach Chat 2/4

  • Good morning chicks, no sleeping in today. Oh why did I stay up for the entire Super Bowl!!! What is on everyone's agenda today?

I planned and packaged my food for the next three days. Looking forward to trying the pumpkin bars when I get home tonight.

    Have a great day
  • Good Morning

Hi Jennifer! No sleeping in here, either! I turned off the tv after the power outage...glad I didn't wait. Yay for prepackaged food! Have a great day!

My saving my coworker yesterday has paid off. She will work Thurs. and Sat. for me so I can head over and see DH and the pup for an extended weekend. I'm just going to work and lie low until then. If I don't make any messes I won't have to clean them up. Eating has been OP-I find it much easier when I don't have to sit with the crunch-miester every evening....sure do miss him, though.

    Have a great day everyone!
  • Good morning early risers . Thanks for getting us started. I am already into my second cup but far from awake. I really want to take a sick day today. A great grey owl was seen just an hour north of here. It's one of my most wanted birds and at best involves a trip to Montreal where they show up every 10-12 years. This is one of the worst weeks for a day off but if it's seen today I may rearrange my week to squeeze a day in. Since I'm working Saturday I won't even need to use a day to do it but I will need to bend the truth a bit. I miss my old job where we just had personal day so we never needed to come up with an excuse.

Jennifer - I made the coconut bars last night because I had half a can of light coconut milk leftover from earlier in the week. Then I drizzled dark chocolate over them (people on facebook know I got kind of carried away with the drizzling ). They are amazing. Another score for Elana's Pantry. I can actually see the difference a little coconut flour makes too. It's fun relearning to bake.

Debbie - hooray for an extended weekend.

I suppose I should plan a really full day so I don't leave anything out if I get birders flu later in the week Hope all you Super Bowl watchers have plenty of coffee to get you through your post game Monday.

  • Can you believe I completely forgot about the Super Bowl. I seldom watch sports but did want to see the commercials and the half-time show!

We were supposed to see the sun today but they lied again! Yesterday I took the Christmas wreath off the side door but did not replace it with my usual pussy-willow one. I'm pretty sure Spring will come in a month or two but ...

Off to the gym this morning, home to change and then off to a meeting with the Quilting Group. I'm hoping to be home early afternoon and will hole up again in my cozy and warm house. I can't figure out why I'm so cold this winter - it sure isn't from losing weight!

Off we go on the first full week of frosty February!
  • Good morning! I had to get up extra early to drive Jake over to the train station. He would have walked, but the sidewalks are pretty slippery after another coating of snow overnight. Now I can sit and linger over my coffee and take my time leaving for work. My brother is going to take my Dad up to visit Mom this morning, so I won't have to worry about that, either.

It's going to be a cold, windy, day so curried lentil soup will hit the spot come lunchtime, and I threw together a quinoa/butternut squash casserole last night that I'm looking forward to for tonight's supper. I'm trying my darnest to stay OP and be prepared while I'm at the hospital, and thank goodness they have a microwave I can use to heat up my meals. I am really amazed that there aren't more healthier food options there.
  • Good morning chicks! I got to sleep in a wee bit over the weekend, and what a difference that 45 minutes makes, because I don't want to be up yet. The coffee is strong though, hopefully it will kick in soon.

I have a pretty boring day - just some work and errands. I didn't make my planned soup last night because of the super bowl party (um, did we watch the game?) so I better make sure I have something healthy for lunch .
  • Good morning chicks, we had nice sun yesterday also but it never got above 20 degrees during the day.

Had some terrible unplanned off program foods yesterday..I will not let them derail me though.

    Have a great day!
  • Good morning!

Jennifer - I'm glad that I'm an hour later than you! Finishing the game wasn't so bad here. But, oh, what I ate!

Debbie - Sounds like a great plan. I find it easier to stay OP without my man too.

Cyndi - LOL - I guess bird/owl watching is not a typical reason for a "sick" day.

Ruth - I'm with you on the commercials. But I suspect we could find them all online today if we cared enough to look.

    Linda - Sounds yummy.

Twynn - I'm also needing to make up for some (ahem) off plan eating last night.

Holly - I'm back on track today too! Isn't it amazing how the sun can make it seem warmer even if it isn't.

Off to the gym with my mom today. She has a cold. I'm hoping she got if from me so I don't get a new one from here! DH seems to be getting one too. I would have thought if it was mine they'd both be sick before now. I am washing, washing, washing, my hands. Then I'm heading to the pet store to buy a little something to add to my son's valentine's care package. Did I tell you that DS2 got a puppy?! Yep, the little guy is living in the frat house.

    Have a great week.
  • I must post to say You Chicks Rock! I've been in these forums for just five weeks and the support and advice have been incredible. I would have quit weeks ago, but reading about others' plateau experiences, finding recipes, and getting words of encouragement are all really helping me. Last week, especially, would have been the easiest week to quit...my weight was stagnant and I was with my father in cardiac ICU (with a vending machine just down the hallway filled with Kraft mac&cheese dinners and chocolate bars - WTH?!) for days and this week I'm taking my mother to consults for two different surgeries. For "the old me," this would have been the perfect time to take refuge in food, but instead I'm carving time out to plan my meals/snacks and to exercise. I believe this is possible only because of the support on 3FC.

To top all of this off, I was able to go to a Super Bowl party last night without bingeing on all of the food or feeling deprived (an incredible NSV for me). The only options were heavy on bad carbs (white potato skins, etc.), but I was careful all day yesterday, ate reasonable portions, and....today I'm down 3 pounds. Who knows what the scale will say next week, but I feel stronger and I want to hold on to this feeling that I'm approaching food in a healthier/saner way.

I feel like I'm having a major revelation about myself/food/etc...so apologies if this is all TMI.

Have a great week, everyone! And, thank you!!! :-)
  • Congratulations Elise! Doesn't it feel great? It's not TMI at all. I spent way too many days last year in hospitals as a visitor and checking in here was a good reminder every day to stay away from the Au Bon Pain and pizza place in the hospital courtyard.
  • Evening, ladies...just popping in to say hello. Enjoyed the weekend off...wish I didn't have to come back to work today, LOL...especially w/ this migraine I've got.

Things have been kinda meh this past week. I won't bore you w/ the details.
