Considering Starting south beach
IM almost 39 years old. im about 40 pounds over weight if not more.
and I just feel terrible. I like to run, but my body lately cries when i do.. I am inslin resistant. * so that does not help* I have to STARVE myself and run about 10 miles at least a week to lose weight.. I did try low carb about 15 years ago and it seemed to work good. but of course life got in the way and I stopped. Someone gave me the SB book, and if figured what do i have to lose.. Except 40 pounds! I am on a rather tight budget.. but will make it work.. would love to hear any easy tips.. esp for lunch... I work full time and have about 15 min for lunch. so it has to be quick and easy.. I hope this works for me.. I am too young to feel this old.. My bday is 4/27 so I am trying to see how much I can get off before then! and continue from there.. Thanks.. Grace. |
Grace, I started SB two months ago. I have NOT been hungry. I feel great! I found I spent a lot in the first few weeks but once I got my staples stocked I don't spend any more on food than I used to, maybe even less. If you did low carb before I think you'll find this diet more flexible and satisfying. I rarely feel like I'm missing anything on this diet.
I love soups so I make a big pot of soup every few days. Then I just reheat it for lunch. If you don't mind eating the same thing for a few days, that is a great quick and easy lunch. Another thing I made a lot in P1 was chopped salads with chick peas, black eyed peas, or black beans. Chick peas, cucumbers, tomatoes, kalamata olives, feta, fresh parsley -- or black eyed peas, shredded spinach, tomatoes, feta, kalamata olives -- both are great with a greek style lemon juice/olive oil dressing. Quick and you can make them ahead of time. These are all cheap too. I am about your age and I've found to keep my energy level up I have to pay more and more attention to my diet every year. Also I've gotten less tolerant of many foods, wheat and dairy in particular; something I never realized until I started SB. Oh and welcome! :) If you look at the on plan threads, you will see a lot of lunch ideas. |
Thank you for the reply.. I think I shall do it!!! thanks for the tips!

Welcome, Grace :)
I find that planning is key. I will often make dinners with the intention of having leftovers for a few meals, those would be great for lunch. Also, I will often freeze portions so that I have something to fall back on. You could do that and take them out in advance as you need them. A great back up plan is to maybe have some tuna at work just in case you didn't have time to pack a lunch. |
Hi Grace,
I think buying frozen veggies where you can in place of fresh is a good $$$ tip. Also, if you don't know if you like something, try it when you DO have the money. I used to buy all kinds of things I'd never tried and wasted a good amount of money instead of sticking to the things I knew I did when funds were short. Try the recipe section. I second Karen in the leftovers category. When you buy things like veggues, buy them whole - cheaper than pre-cut! Good luck! |
