First week on SB - sort of skeptical?

Hi All!

So I made a decision to stop making excuses and finally lose the weight this year.

I am on day 3 oh phase 1 and I have to admit, I've faltered in that I have had 1 small glass of white wine each evening. Otherwise, I have been totally on plan.

Whats weird is that I have not been hungry or felt unsatisfied - not once yet! I know carbs aren't my biggest weakness, but this still really surprises me! I feel like I am doing something wrong? Also, I know I should weigh myself yet but I have GAINED 1lb. I am 100% sticking to the food list/meals/snacks/water.

What are your thoughts? Thanks everyone!

I'm on day 5 and my weight went up slightly this morning. I've noticed that a lot of the foods I end up having are high in sodium and I think they're making me retain water. So I've been having cheese with my eggs, then cheese with my snack, and then some with dinner. Which, honestly, is too much cheese! So I think I'm going to have to just modify some of my choices.

Could this be the case for you? How's your sodium intake?

Also, see this thread.

A couple of ideas:
are you drinking enough water?
getting those 4 1/2 cups of veggies?

It can really help to post your menus too, there's almost always a more experienced Beacher with some suggestions :)

Lots of people suggest using measurements and not just the scale. It is early though and that definitely could have been a blip. I have one of those bodies that can jump 4 lbs overnight for no good reason and then drop a couple later.

ETA - I would strongly suggest following the plan to the letter for the first two weeks though. I know the wine seems innocent enough but it the plan is very intentionally designed, especially in Phase 1 and following it strictly for those two weeks really will pay off.

I'm not too shaken up by the 1lb - I am 5'9" and can swing 10 in a matter of days.

More, should I be hungry, or is this diet just that great? I will post menus later, but I am actually following meals/snacks/water intake/veggies perfectly. I know the wine wasn't good, but I am not going to get too down about it. While this is my first time with SB I have successfully done WW and lost over 50 lbs on my own in the past. This time I just need to do it again and keep it off!

Getting discouraged doesn't help anyone stay on track in my experience :)

When I'm eating this way, I typically don't feel hungry (unless it's time of month, or all in my head) and I'm typically satisfied because this plan is designed for you to feel this way. The foods are high in protein and fiber, and also good fats are allowed, so you're going to feel fuller longer, and your blood sugar isn't going haywire, it maintains throughout the day because you're feeding your body good foods throughout the day. When your blood sugar spikes due to sugar/white flours/etc, then it will also quickly plummet, and when it does that, your stomach sends your brain the signal that you're hungry again, so you eat again. If you're maintaining your blood sugar by eating the right things every few hours throughout the day, then you're not going to feel hungry. Does that make sense?

I'm with Cyndi. When starting this plan, you need to do a clean Phase 1 for two weeks. Even though a glass of red wine a day is good for the heart, alcohol will make you retain water no matter how little you drink, so there's just another reason to do a clean Phase 1. Also, watch your sodium intake (are you eating salted nuts? A lot of cheese, or laughing cow cheese? Pickles? etc)

Definitely get your 4.5 cups of vegetables and 1/2 cup of beans or legumes every day. These are important for weight loss. A lot of people who first start SB end up eating mostly meat, cheese, dairy, and nuts, and don't get enough veggies and beans to help.... keep things moving, if you get my drift? You don't want your plumbing to get backed up. 8-10 cups of water a day are important too.

Please feel free to post your menus daily! A lot of us "old school" beachers still do that for accountability, and ideas for new things to eat that we never thought of. :D

I have been on SB since Oct, and I have lost 18 lbs plus lots of inches, I am down 4 pants sizes (I fit into jeans I wore 4 yrs ago this morning.)

I would stay on track the first 2 weeks, you need to do this. I did not weigh myself everyday, only once a week, and I also took measurements. Sometimes it is best not to know until a week goes by. Make it a goal.

And eat lots of veggies and drink water. Stay away from the no nos, you can add them back in later. This forum is great for tips and helping you stay on track.

Best wishes.

:welcome:

I will just chime in and say that doing a clean Ph 1 is UBER important. Skip the wine! It's only 14 days!

Good luck and come back and post often.
