South Beach Wake Up Call
hey! Kinda new to this forum, but not so much to SB or low carb. I am very interested in this new book because it is supposed to explain and help with the whole gluten issue. Has anyone on this board read this new book yet?
Thanks! Wendy |
I haven't, but I may buy this because my copy of SB is really old and I'm due for a new one, and I'm intrigued that he discussed the gluten issue. There's been some talk recently on this board about that because of "The Belly Fat Diet." I just read today that even white rice has a lower GI impact that real whole wheat. Wheat is just looking like the devil lately!

I need to check out the whole Wheat Belly thing. I went ahead and ordered the new book, for $10 on half dot com so I figured it wasnt as bad as spending the $30 in the store for it.... Cant wait to see how it explains and lays it all out!
Thanks! |
I recently got the South Beach Wake Up Call. I really like it; it gives great hints for sticking to South Beach, plus the chapter on gluten is great. I am gluten intolerant, was for years before the whole gluten phenomena hit. I really appreciate Dr. A acknowledging the whole gluten mess. I think he became interested in it because in South Beach Supercharged, he said that he found way too many people doing great on Phase 1, feeling better than they had in years with different health conditions disappearing, then coming back when they started adding gluten grains in Phase 2.
But South Beach Wake up Call will not really go into great detail on how to do the diet. For that I feel you really need the South Beach book. I have both the original and also the South Beach Supercharged. The Supercharged book has the updated diet. And to think those books sat around collecting dust before I realized I just can't do typical diets anymore. Oh well, better late than never! |
I guess I should have clarified that the Wake up Call gives great tips for sticking to the diet, but you need the South Beach Supercharged to get all the details of the diet. I also forgot to add there are nice recipes in the back of Wake Up Call.

I have Supercharged so this should be really good to go along with it. I am very excited. My dr put the whole gluten bug in my ear because apparently that can trigger the thyroid which has happend to me recently. DH surprised me with a new to me ellyptical tonight... I am promising to you ladies here that it WILL NOT become a coat rack.... I am going to use it and really start feeling better about a lot of things!
I cant wait to check out the recipes in the book and I heard that it also tells you ways to ease in to or what switches to make for what and the whole transition process is explained in more detail ~ the kids keep me so worked up I guess I can take all the help anyone can give me :) |
I really like all the South Beach books. I do believe I have them all! I really want to learn as much as I can. The cookbooks, particularly the two "quick and easy" cookbooks are just awesome.
The more I'm looking through the Wake Up Call, the more I like it. Its worth it for the gluten chapter alone. |
