newbie needing help!

Hello,

I am a newbie that will be starting the plan next week!! (not going to start on the 4th of July weekend!!!)

I am not looking to loose a ton of weight, about 10 lbs. But I want a healthier way of eating for my family. We love veggies, fruit, lean meats, and eat the frequently. But, those pesky processed foods have made their way into our diet. So for phase 1, I HATE SALMON!!!! And most fish except tuna, and canned salmon made like tuna, and shrimp. Can I vary from the meal plan? Can I eliminate the seafood dishes for grilled shrimp? or chicken?
Help!!!

You can ALWAYS vary from the meal plan - no one has to eat fish! Be sure you go get the book - the library probably has it - it will clarify your questions, and really is VERY important in getting it "right".

Be well -

I hate fish and seafood and don't eat it. I've been on sbd for almost three weeks now and am doing great without it. I read the old book and applied the principles and the list of foods that are legal and make my own meal plans. I find that works better then following a set one because I can customize my food to my liking.

I'm with nat4crim, I never followed the menu as set out in the book. Too many things I didn't like or didn't have. I didn't want to have to go buy a bunch of stuff and the grocery store. I'm the type of person who can have the same thing for lunch or dinner two or three days in a row. So I just make big batches of stuff and have left overs for a while. You definitely need to customize the food to fit you and your family, otherwise you'll never stick to it.

Absolutely!

Though I do like to encourage us all to try new things (how about tilapia? Fresh fish shouldn't taste "fishy" anyway), using chicken to sub out the fish is a-ok. Try beans too!

Welcome! I don't think many beachers follow the meal plans in the books. They are suggestions and samples of meals. When I started SBD I took the approved foods lists and made up menus based on the foods my family enjoys. It's worked for over two years now.

Welcome. I never followed the plans either, in the least.

Thanks Everyone!! I like most of the meal plans, so it will work for me. I love cooking, just hate coming up with the menu! I just wasn't sure if I vary it, if I would have enough balance of nutrients in each meal. Thanks again!!

When I did phase one I hit up the library and got every SBD cookbook they had on hand. There are tons of great phase one recipes, especially in the "Tastes of Summer" or whatever that one was called. If you are looking for a little guidance, you can try that.
