When can I eat dates?

I know we can't have them in phase 2 but will I be able to eat them in phase 3 and if so how much???

I believe that Dates are on the Foods to Avoid or Eat Sparingly list because they have a high glycemic index.

Once you are at your goal weight and go into Phase III, you'll really have to do some experimenting to see how things affect you... Everyone's body is different. I'm insulin resistant, so things with a high glycemic index are very likely to set off cravings for me, dates would be a very occassional treat for me, but they may affect you differently.

In the meantime, how do you feel about prunes? I love them and they are on the approved list. :D

When on Phase 2, I have them in smoothies once in awhile to sweeten them. They don't seem to affect me in small quantities (one per smoothie).

Prunes are so yummy!...hard to control myself with them, though.

As always, with dried fruit, it is important to find no-sugar-added varieties.

I wonder if it paritally depends on HOW you are enjoying them. I would think that eating them out of the bag could be dangerous, while using a bit to sweeten a smoothie or some otameal might not be a problem. I sometimes grab a larabar, usually made from nuts and dates, and they never cause cravings for me.
