Turkey Pepperoni

I've been wanting to try some of the snack recipes that have been posted using turkey pepperoni. My coworker brought me in some that she found (next to impossible to find here) and when I looked at the ingredients, I was so disappointed.

Here is a list of the first few...Turkey, water, wheat crumbs, modified corn starch, potassium lactate....and many other chemicals I don't want to ingest anyway.

I am assuming these are no longer phase 1 allowed, correct? I'm also disappointed that more natural versions aren't available here.

I think she's asking about the particular ingredients in the brand of turkey pepperoni she's got. :) I wouldn't touch the particular brand you've got, Steph, but maybe everyone knows some others you could try. I've never tried turkey pepperoni. Was going to last week but forgot to put it on my grocery list. :)

Thanks everyone. It's the only brand I've been able to spot so far. I don't know why I can't find it anywhere, you think people would want non beef options.

I hope someone can weigh in about the ingredients in the turkey pepperoni for ya. What brand is it?

Looking online it looks like hormel has one that is ok for southbeach...
Ingredients: (gluten free)
Dark turkey meat, salt, spices, contains 2% or less of water, dextrose, smoke flavoring, lactic acid starter culture, flavoring, oleoresin of paprika, garlic powder, sodium nitrate, bha, bht, citric acid.

Still some chemicals I wouldn't want to consume but these seem more appropriate!

i use hormel OR the giant food store brand.

Um....Steph is in Canada. Our brands are different. I'm in Ontario and I haven't found any turkey pepperoni at all.

So true, even if we have the brands, it's like we have only the most popular. Case in point: the abundance of normal pepperoni, haha. I am surprised you haven't found it either, usually Ontario has a lot more options than we do (I live in NS).

I just figured maybe if someone knew of the particular brand Steph had, they might know more about it though. So no Hormel?? I bet you Canadian chicks could order it somewhere online though, although that's not always convenient. I just googled to see what I could find, I saw something promising on Amazon.com but it's referring to pepperoni sticks it turns out. I saw links regarding "where can you find turkey pepperoni in Toronto?" and mainly stuff like that.

Can you ask your local grocer to order some and have it in stock? I can do that at a few grocery stores in my area. (I mean after finding a brand that's more suitable for you.)

i eat the hormel one. but like once or twice a week

Greetings fellow canadians.
I use turkey pepperoni from Butterball, which I buy at Metro (formerly the barn)
Now, I wouldn't say its 100% SBD friendly (since there is a small amount of modified potato startch in it) however i don't eat it all that often, so it really doesn't bother me.

You should also be able to get it at a proper deli shop... tho it would cost alot more.

I was just recently introduced to turkey pepperoni "chips" - they are DELICIOUS! They satisfy my regular chip craving and I almost like them better than regular chips! Just lay some flat on a 2-3 layers of paper towels, microwave them for 1.5-2 minutes and voila! They are so crispy and delicious, plus the grease gets cooked out of them!

Hi,
When Wal-Mart stores stopped stocking a food I really like & bought there for years, last week my Dh told me to check at Wal-Mart online & I found my food & it said I could get it shipped to me or my local Wal-Mart. So I'm going to order it there instead of using my Amazon Prime account.

Do you have a Wal-Mart in Canada to get the sausage?

Good luck :smug:
