Interesting that you are combining the two plans.
I don't blame WW - that was just what I found myself doing which I don't think was a good thing. WW did teach me a lot about portion sizes and basic nutrition that I was lacking. I just needed a change and am feeling good with the change. |
Good for you! :) You really have to do what works for you, no one plan is best suited for everyone. There are so many available to fit everyone's needs. The most important part is just doing one!
I agree about portion sizes. That was probably the biggest thing I learned from WW. I've been measuring and weighing since I started and I was so surprised just how off I was on portions! It was so easy to go overboard on meats, grains (especially grains!) and fruits. The only thing I don't check into the proper portion first is non-starchy veggies! I always make sure to have plenty of cut veggies available for when the snack monster hits. Also, what has really worked for me is quitting the evening snacking. I make sure to eat enough during the day so that I'm not actually hungry in the evening, and if I feel like snacking, I drink water or do something that takes my mind off the snacking. It hasn't been easy at all. |
I tried WW at first too. I was only allowed 20pts a day. That's nuts. My favorite eat out meal was chipotle. One meal was 17pts. I don't think WW gave me the tools to figure out how best to eat and distribute them. I LOVE sb for simple removal of certain foods and a list of approved foods to eat until I'm not hungry. How easy is that? I hated counting points.
A co-worker of mine already lost 40lbs on WW. She loves it. She lives on her lean cuisines. I just couldn't do that. SB introduced me to SO many new veggies. I was a veggie hater before. Now, i'll eat a lot more of them than I used to. Like one of the other posters said, whatever works for you. WW didn't work at all for me....I was always starving! Oh yeah, as long as i remove the rice, I can still have my full on chipotle meal, I just eat half at a time. And I still lose. SB is definitely the diet for me! |
Resty, a chipotle burrito sans rice is only 10 points. plus, the extra 35 points you get every week are there for that exact reason.
I think that finding healthful foods regardless of what plan you're following is key. Lean Cuisines work in a pinch, but hello! sodium. There isn't much that can beat healthy, whole foods and those can be incorporated into any plan. |

I lost 30 pounds on Weight Watchers when I was 16. My highest back then was 148. My lowest was 108. Everyone thought I was anorexic or something but my metabolism just kicked in. It was amazing. The weight just melted off.
I drifted up to 130 and maintained that until I moved onto campus during college (20ish years old). Around the same time I also went on anti-depressants. Lethal combination, let me tell you. Within the next four years, I've slowly drifted up to a high of 198. In between I've tried weight watchers and the 400 calorie meals. I had lost six pounds in 17 days with calorie counting, but for some reason, I was not able to stick with it. Basically I wanted to try SB because it seems to make sense. Carbs are always a pit fall for me. I love carrots but I always want more food if I have them for a snack. That totally makes sense. Well, wish me luck. :) |
