Yogurt

What type of yogurt are you allowed in P2 friends? Can I have a fruit flavored one? I lent my book to a pal and I didn't understand what this site meant by artificially flavored yogurt! Thanks for your help lovies!

Okie, you can have fat free or lowfat yogurt on Phase 2, either plain or flavored.
Check out the revised Phase 2 foods list in the FAQs for more info.

Thanks Heidi, fat free is the same as nonfat right?

CyndiM 02-22-2010 07:30 AM

Right, and I know you know that they have to be sugar free. My personal favorite is Greek yogurt with my own fruit added, fresh or frozen. Yum. If you want it sweeter you can add whatever sweetener you use.

They have to be sugar free? The ones I have are loaded with 8g of sugar (sigh)!

TwynnB 02-22-2010 08:10 AM

Okie - even the plain ones have sugar, because it's milk sugar. You can't really look at the sugar content, you need to look at the ingredient list.
My favorite is plain with frozen blueberries!

So, can I have the nonfat yogurt, although it's got 9g of sugar?

CyndiM 02-22-2010 09:07 AM

as long as the ingredient list doesn't include real sugar. It's much more important to read labels than to look at carb/sugar content.

Thanks Cyndi!

My favorite is nonfat plain greek yogurt with frozen blueberries and a teensy drizzle of agave. I find myself craving it!

Here's what the requirements are for the flavored ones on Phase II.

"Yogurt - artificially sweetened non-fat flavored yogurt (limit to 4 ounces daily and avoid varieties that contain high fructose corn syrup)"

Very few yogurts come in 4 ounces sizes and don't contain added sugars. That's why I use plain yogurt and add flavoring &/or fruit on Phase II. Plus the big containers of plain yogurt are much cheaper.

I recently discovered that the walmart brand of light yogurt is sweetened with splenda! Yummy flavors too. Just be careful it is the light, the packaging is similar to the regular.

Can we eat too much dairy? I don't eat much yogurt, but I have been drinking alot of milk. More than 3 servings. It is fat free milk. I use it in my coffee and I also drink plain milk. I have found that a cup of milk with a bit a sf choc syrup makes a great desert!

I like greek yogurt too. I have found individual servings iwth fruit on the side. These work great for work! I have also found that I don't need the extra agave anymore. The fruit works just fine! Funny how our tastes change!

Tammie- I just checked the book and it says 2-3 cups of dairy allowed daily, including yogurt.
