Hump-day Happenings and Hurdles

Happy Wednesday! Coffee's on! :coffee: Let's get the day rolling!

I woke up to a white-covered world this morning, and all the schools on are a 2-hour delay. That means Audrey & Maggie won't be going at all, since they're leaving right after lunch for Vermont. I'll clean up after they leave, then I can come home early. :)

Jake didn't have time to do any shovelling, so it looks like it'll be up to me to dig us out. At least it's good exercise! That should be the only hurdle in my day to smooth out.

Let's all make it over the hump, then it's all downhill to the weekend!

CyndiM 02-03-2010 06:04 AM

Good morning Cottage :coffee2: thanks for the coffee :) Hey, it's not too late to grab a ride to Vermont!

Speaking of, thought you'd all like this from a story about Woodchuck Day celebrations in VT:
"Beardsley coined the holiday after years of simmering resentment over the Punxsutawney version. Firstly, he says, no one should be calling woodchucks "groundhogs." Secondly, according to Beardsley, people in the Banana Belt of Pennsylvania have no business predicting when winter will end."
;)

Time to do some yoga. I hope I'll get back in later.

Heidi58 02-03-2010 06:07 AM

Good morning Linda.
Your storm is heading out to sea and will miss us. I have to admit I'm a little disappointed - what we've got now is too icy and crusty to have much fun with, now. But to be honest, I'm glad I won't have to do any shoveling today. I'm one of those people who wants to have my cake and eat it too. ;)
Have you got anything special planned for yourself the girls are off skiing?

I've got another busy day, school, meetings, then youth group tonight. It's easier to eat on plan when I'm busy so that part is good. It's harder to make time for the treadmill though, that part's not quite as good. lol

Enjoy your Wednesday friends!

Heidi58 02-03-2010 06:08 AM

Oh, hi Cyndi! I missed your post.
Beardsley sounds disgruntled. lol The banana belt, eh? :D
Enjoy your yoga!

Mmckellen 02-03-2010 06:10 AM

It snowed here in Brooklyn too! It seemed to be snowing all night but there's not much on the ground this morning. I think it will melt today.

I am appearing in small claims court tomorrow night. Sadly, we are suing our coop for damage done to our air conditioner while there was construction being done on the entrance to our building. I can't believe it has come to this and I am so upset, but we were really left with no choice. The board basically told us we should 'take one for the team' and that we were free to pursue the construction company on our own if we wished. I consulted a lawyer who said no way, they are responsible. I've never been in small claims court and am preparing very carefully, but I'm extremely nervous and didn't sleep well last night. Wish me luck. I'll be able to post the results on Friday morning.

Chelby29 02-03-2010 06:16 AM

Good Morning!

Cottage, Nothing like a long weekend! I hope you find more fun than shoveling snow. :)

Cyndi, Funny! I remember thinking last spring that winter NEVER ends up there!

Heidi, Have you lost all your weight on SBD? I'm impressed with your ticker! :)

Mc, Good Luck!

Me: We've already had an adventure in Beautiful Remlap this morning. At 4:22 a.m., our walls started shaking. We knew what was happening... Our water line that runs up our 1/2 mile driveway broke. We live at the top of a tall hill, so water evacuating the house down the driveway sounds like the house is going to implode. Crazy! I've actually seen an 'on purpose' break, when Jeff had to replace part of the pipe. It looked like a geyser! Anyway, I've melted ice for my coffee and to brush my teeth. I'm going to see what I can do with a curling iron and hairspray to make my hair acceptable for work. We'll see about that! Jeff should be home from work around noon. I'll come home early to help with the shoveling.

cottagebythesea 02-03-2010 06:19 AM

Cyndi, Pa. has a Banana Belt? That's news to me. ;) That Beardsley sounds like an old grump! Sorry I'm not hitching a ride with them, for one thing, there won't be room in the car for me! I'm just planning to enjoy my extra-long weekend. :)

Heidi, sorry this storm is going to miss you. We have another due this weekend, and yet another one coming on Tuesday. Maybe one of those will head your way. ;) Since it's going to be a snowy weekend, I haven't made any plans. It will be nice to just burrow in and enjoy my free time.

Heidi58 02-03-2010 06:25 AM

Thanks Chelby :) Yup, I've lost it all on SBD since Oct. 3rd. My body loves South Beach.

My ticker is misleading: losing 50 lbs is my goal, but I won't be at a healthy BMI when I get to 155. The charts say I need to get down to 135 to squeak into the normal range. When I started in October I couldn't imagine loosing 50 pounds - never mind losing more than that!

I'm still deciding if I'll learn how to maintain the 155 and wait a few months before I work on losing another 20 or if I'll just adjust my goal to 135 and keep going.

I'm sorry about your water line break. :( The joys of being a home owner, eh?

Ruthxxx 02-03-2010 06:44 AM

 Slept in and running late. Off to the gym shortly. Happy humping. .

cottagebythesea 02-03-2010 06:51 AM

Chelby, yikes! That's an awful awakening to your day! I hope Jeff has the bulk of it cleaned up by the time you get home! Shoveling? Did you get snow, too?

Mmc, good luck tonight! :crossed: That's a real shame that the construction company won't own up, and you're doing the right thing by taking it to court. I'm sure you'll win, as it sure sounds like a no-brainer.

Ruth,

Chelby29 02-03-2010 06:55 AM

Cottage, Shoveling mud away from the pipe so it can be replaced. Thankfully, about a year ago, Jeff bought a backhoe attachment for his tractor that will do the bulk of the shoveling. We've had to hand shovel the waterline before. That really stunk!

Heidi, I am so impressed and encouraged. It seems to me, those Beachers who see it as a lifelong plan instead of a short term diet have the most success. I need that tattooed on my forehead. :D

Ruth, Good Morning! :)

Lexxiss 02-03-2010 06:57 AM

Good Morning:sunny:

Linda, thanks for getting us started. Glad to hear you have a short hump day, and that a long weekend will be your reward!

Cyndi, thanks for the story. It was my first chuckle of the day!

Heidi, take care it sounds like a long day for you!

Mmc, I've never been to small claims, but it seems like a very fair way to resolve things. Documentation is so important and it sounds like you've got it covered. :crossed:

Chelby, what a mess. I hope everything is fixed by the time you get home.

 Ruth.

Karen, I picked out fabrics that would work for my Sis and Mom. We don't buy presents anymore. After that, I'll make some dog patterns for my therapy dog group. It keeps me busy since I don't have kids. It's hard to eat and sew at the same time.

Chilly, but nice here this AM. I could have slept but Rudi was ready to go outside. DH decided to stay up, too, and is headed to his shop. I plan to enjoy my sewing project until it's time to go to work. Bing gets a bath this morning, which I'd better do soon. Just the usual here, too. I think we're going back over the hill on Saturday so I'll enjoy my projects while I can.

WaistingTime 02-03-2010 07:00 AM

Hello my early morning friends! And all who follow:)

Cottage - I need to check with DS1 and see if he got blanket at college. We never have delays here - school or no school. Shoveling is great exercise but I would much rather let my DH get it too. He is going to be out of town on Friday and we are expecting snow and I am already thinking about the shoveling. Having him around all day does have its benefits.

Cyndi - Cute story. Enjoy yoga. Namaste.

Heidi - What follows your great GH day school festivities?

Mmc - Wow - good luck. I would be nervous too.

Chelby - No water. Yikes. Just think happy Disney thoughts today:)

Ruth just snuck in - good morning.

And Debbie - another midwesterner up early:) We don't buy presents either. How nice that you are crafty and can make them something. I love homemade stuff best. I hear you about eating and sewing... that is why I am now blogging and on here so much! It works! Now I need to learn to knit for when I watch TV and want to snack.

We had our overnight guest again last night, dinner, homework, and still sleeping upstairs. Glad we can host him because my son may end up over there when I travel with DH this spring.

I have a busy day - DH is joining me for cycling and trying pilates class too. Then we cook dinner for my mom (since her hubby just had surgery), I head out to take my senior friend grocery shopping, then we have HS conferences which will take about 2/5 hours over dinnertime. (We stand in line in the school commons and gym to wait to see each teacher for 5 minutes. Long lines.)

Your weather forecasts are worrying me since DH and DS2 are heading east to visit a college later this week.

Happy Hump Day all!

CyndiM 02-03-2010 07:20 AM

Back for a few :) I thought I'd give you a little context on that quote ;) Apparently it was the fourth annual Woodchuck Day (I seem to have missed the first 3 ;) ) They name a Woodchuck of the Year who makes silly predictions. It's all a fundraiser for our Guard families (VT is very heavily represented in the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. We all know several families that have served). The really important pieces - native Vermonters are Woodchucks (ever wonder about Woodchuck cider, The Woodchuck's Guide to Gardening,....) and they even refer to the area I live in as the Banana Belt. Also my grandchildren will still be considered flatlanders ;)

Heidi - I know what you mean. It should either warm up or snow a little so we can do something with this weather! How's that wrist healing?

Chelby - Yuk, what a way to start your day. At least you know it has to get better!

Ruth - only you could run through with that greeting!

Mmc - Good luck, Hope it isn't too unpleasant and goes your way.

Debbie - Good morning friend :) Sounds like a fun day ahead (except for the dog bath)

Karen - I tried a pilates on the ball workout last night. I don't think I got much actual exercise but I laughed alot as the ball rolled all over the room with me stretched over it ;) Have a good day.

Okay, off to have a day. It's my last day in the office so that counts for something :)

Chelby29 02-03-2010 07:28 AM

Cyndi, I tried to do pushups on a ball once. The ball rolled, and I almost busted my face! For me, the ball is right up there with step aerobics -- a good way to break something!

It's amazing how much time I have in the morning when I can't shower!

TwynnB 02-03-2010 08:05 AM

Good morning chickies!!

Cottage - good luck shoveling! THis is your last day for the week, right?

Cyndi - I think Pux Phil is a bit offended ;). That's a great fundraiser for the guard!

Heidi - Congrats on the 50 lbs! That's amazing! We enjoying hanging out with you in the am :D.

MMCK - good luck today! I don't think I'd be able to eat if I were you!

Chelby - at least you have your priorities straight...you melted ice for coffee :D.

Karen - conferences...in lines? That's odd. Did they find too many people didn't show for appointments, or show at the wrong time (late/early?)? I'd be a bit resentful if I had to hang in line that long!!

Lexiss - enjoy your sewing!

Me - Had to share this little new invention of mine...make an omelette - eggs with a bit of milk, sprinkle cinnamon on while cooking, add the cream cheese near the end like those cinnamon omelettes, then add some blueberries!! YUM!! I enjoyed my breakfast today!

I did pretty good yesterday...even though a friend asked me to lunch. I still got my favorite salad there (medallion caprese), and told them to hold the bread. Their rolls are fantastic, and I didn't want to even see it!

Today is an easy day at work...so I'm going to exercise later. Should get a good run in with a movie!

Have a great one!

Ruth - you're the one that made me giggle...and I left you out!! Happy humping!! :D

tammies00 02-03-2010 08:06 AM

Ack Chelby sorry for the broken pipe.

Cyndi I tried to do sit ups on the ball once. LOL I sat up and the ball rolled and landed not so gently on my booty! HAHA

Morning Debbie, Ruth, Linda and Heide and everyone else.

I am not going to work today because I have my midterm today. So might check in and out of here.

Ruthxxx 02-03-2010 08:17 AM

Back. I'm an idiot! (Stop nodding your heads.) I took off without breakfast and felt way too weird when I got on the treadmill so came home to eat. I'm old enough to know better, right? This diabetes is not to be messed around with. Still feeling crappy so may go back to bed for a bit. Pet therapy at noon if I'm back to alleged normal.

cottagebythesea 02-03-2010 08:37 AM

Ruth, yes, you should know better! Take care of yourself and feel better soon.

jenne1017 02-03-2010 08:43 AM

Another day working from hom. But I get to with DW. I  her! I get my blood results back today as well.

Good times!

How your hump day is fabulous! I might go outside and play in the snow!

Pearlrose 02-03-2010 12:01 PM

Good morning,

Quick flyby for me as usual, scale is still being evil to me.

Tonite have to drop off my car for scheduled maintenance and then take DD2 to Dance class and then when we get home we will work out. It has become a group workout the 30 day shred- my 16 and 6 year old girls are both doing it with me. Made dinner that was completely healthy and after ds ate it I asked did you like? and he said yes and I said it was all healthy...he said then I didn't like it lol. Slowly but surely changing everyones eating habits in the house.

Ruth hope you feel better

Chebly sorry about the water line.

Hello to everyone else

Have a great day everyone.

WaistingTime 02-03-2010 12:40 PM

Cyndi and Chelby - We used balls today too! DH rolled off and crashed into me - but better me than someone else.

Twynn - Maybe the HS has always done it this way. Each student has 7 teachers and each teacher has tons of students, so no time for the appointments that we had in grade school. The lines vary depending on the teachers... DS has some very hard ones and they will have long lines. Sigh. Your breakfast almost makes me interested in eggs again:)

Tammie - Hope your test goes well.

Ruth - I learn more about you all the time. Sorry to hear you are not great today. My mom's DH has diabetes, as does a good friend of mine. Insulin dependent.

Jenn - we are all waiting with you for those results! Makes me smile to think of you and DW hanging out at home together.

Pearl - Your son cracks me up! I often refrain from telling my teens what is in the food in hopes I can fool them. Sometimes it works, but like your DS, usually just knowing means they won't like it.

My little old lady friend canceled on me so I will have time today for errands for myself.

TwynnB 02-03-2010 01:40 PM

YAY!! Had the first run with the Reesie pup. Didn't go as far as originally planned (without her), because I didn't want to push her too hard. Needless to say, she's running around the house like a mad woman annoying all the sleeping cats. Guess I didn't wear her out, huh?

WaistingTime 02-03-2010 04:05 PM

Twynn - What is a Reesie pup?

BTW - I moved my blog today. Turns out that there is some spamming with 3FC blogs which makes it so non-3FC-wordpress bloggers can't add us to their blog rolls! I have been working towards this for a while but had to just make the jump and will go from here. Someday I will make it look "pretty." Hope you visit me at my new site:)

Got to have a nice internet chat with DS1 today. Tried to skype video but apparently my new Windows 7 does not like my old camera and microphone. Ahhh... technology is great when it works.

TwynnB 02-03-2010 06:11 PM

Waisting - Reesie pup is "reese", a pup I adopted in October. I wanted a running companion (not the only reason I got her), I think she'd be a deterent to freaks out there.

tammies00 02-03-2010 07:01 PM

HaHa Tammy the first time I read through I thought you said reese cup and I was thinking why would you take a reece cup running. LOL I really need to slow down sometime when I am reading!!HAHA

Hey Ruth- I like the single post for phase 1 questions. Do you think there is a need for a phase 1.5/2 post. And could these be recurring each week or every other week similar to the on plan thread. All of us new people have 1.5/2 questions quite a bit and I always hate starting a new thread. If this isn't needed I understand ya'll know better than I do. I don't know what it is like in here other than the last 3 weeks.

Tammie

BellaLucia 02-03-2010 07:41 PM

Hey everyone!

I am doing good on our diet. Gotta add exercise now (sigh). I know it'll be worth it, only thing that keeps me going, lol. I'm going to Zumba at Gold's Gym. My old high school friend teaches it. I had fun at Subway's with my pal Shirley and my other pal Lashon. I gave Shirl. my SBD book so she can get started on the diet. I got a chicken salad and water.

TwynnB 02-03-2010 07:53 PM

Tammie - what's funny is, my last name is Blizzard. Get it, Reesie Pup Blizzard? :D

tammies00 02-03-2010 08:10 PM

Tammy That is funny!

Chelby29 02-03-2010 08:55 PM

Twynn, I did not put that name together! Love it! I had a friend who's last name was Hester. Her dog was Polly Hester. :)

Jeff got our water pipe put back together, turned the water back on, and the darn pipe busted again! I went to work today without a shower. Absolutely cannot do that two days in a row. I guess I'll go to the gym in the morning to shower. Wonder if they serve coffee at the gym?

rdw1 02-04-2010 12:10 AM

Hey Ladies- I am back from vegas and brought back and extra 10lbs ?! and not in my suitcase?! I have got to be swollen- I did look like a balloon when I woke up- I think part of the reason may be the gluten I ate over vaca and when we came home I think the house being shut up for a few days with the kitties my allergies tend to get out of whack for a couple days- Hoping the 7th will bring that number back down! ARG. While we were on vaca we did drink quite a bit- not 10lbs worth though! and we only ate twice a day at the most- and not a ton when we did eat. Something is up with my body- but I have been gaining 2-3lbs per month and I am determined January was the last month for me to do that~!!! I do good for the first half then bomb the last of the month! I am done with that! Its time for ME to make the RIGHT decisions! I did get back on track today and I am back with counting calories as well as doing gf modified sbd... SO disgusted with myself-but determined to learn(once again) from it!

On a better note- O was fabulous! but not as good as LOVE, IMO. I think the beatles music just made love better ;0) the rest of the trip was nice too- wonderful birthday lots of fun but no luck. Lost all I gambled! oh well- thats vegas for you! Time to get to bed so I can get up early and check back in with you chickies!
