TMI question

I am on Phase 1 and this is not my first attempt but this time around I added beans. I am eating a lot more beans and veggies than meat.

:o But I am really gassy! :o

Like uncomfortable at night gassy.

Is there a supplement or med that I can take to help me with this. It is so embarrassing!

Thnx!

How many beans are you eating? It's suggested that you start with just a ½ cup serving. Beano often helps. Cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower have the same affect on some people. If it's any consolation, your body does get used to this.

AJ, Ruth's right...it's a side effect of eating all these unprocessed foods. It does get better and go away eventually. In the meantime, use liberal doses of beano and anti-gas meds, when needed.

Processed food is, as gross as it sounds, pretty much "pre-chewed" when it comes to digestion. It moves through your system very quickly. Fibrous veggies and other foods, like beans, take a lot longer for your body to break down. While they are in your intestines, it gives bacteria a longer time to work on them, and those bacteria produce gas.

However, if this doesn't get better as you move into Phase 2, or if you are really, really uncomfortable, please do see a doctor, okay?

I actually don't get gassy from the beans and veggies... but I do from refined carbs and sweets!

I agree- since being vegetarian and starting SBD- I started to eat more beans, and you know what happened then! But my body has gotten used to it... Seems most of hte worst gas for me comes now from peppers and onions ar veggie burgers... beans don't even seem to bother me anymore! But it did take some getting used to... also being a vegetarian I cant take beano because of the gelatin in all of their products.. so I got some natural stuff called beanzyme and I think it really helped in the beginning!

I find rinsing the beans helps.

hahaha! SOME of us get used to it!!!

AJ - maybe eat some more steamed veggies? That seems to help with some of my gas issues. If I know I am going to be eating cauliflower, I won't put broccoli or beans in my salad for lunch, etc.

gas mask?

I get gassy from milk, so I have to limit myself to 1/2 cup per day.

I put beano liquid in any bean dishes we might have.

I don't know if this is true or not, but my DH once read that the active ingredient in beano that works on whatever causes gas... also lowers the amount of fiber you absorb from the beans. But again, he told me and I cannot confirm this.
