LaMariposa - If you don't already, learn to use dried beans. They are a great source of fiber, protein and other good things and they are filling. There are lots of good recipes above. I also like crockpot meals. Once you move away from simple carbs you may find you need to make slightly less food. A lot of that stuff isn't very filling while whole grains, beans and dense veggies are very filling.

Cyndi - Thanks. I have tried cooking w/ lentils, pintos, and navy so far, so I will keep that up. I just feel like I am "cheating" when I'm eating beans, even if it's not a lot.

Hi to everyone else!

Good morning, everyone! Day 2 of P1 for me and I'm feeling pretty good!

LaMariposa: How great that you're already down by 6 lbs! Congrats! I do notice that my budget goes up a bit when I'm following SB the way it's meant to be followed, but it is never a HUGE increase. I agree with Cyndi about the dried legumes. Also, don't be afraid of frozen veggies!! I can usually get them on sale for a pack that will serve DH and I twice. I don't ever pay more than $2 a bag. I usually stock up when a good sale is going and use coupons as much as possible. I know a lot of people question frozen veggies, but they're flash-frozen right after harvest, so nutrients don't have a chance to leach out. It's all about how they're cooked. If you used those for cooked veggies with meals, you may be able to save room in your budget for fresh for school lunches/snacks.

Janet: Thanks for the warm welcome back! I think I would freak out if one of our stores started carrying ground turkey (or even turkey breasts). Have a wonderful day!

Today is going well. I was quite lethargic yesterday and didn't make my workout, but I'm okay with that. My goal is at least 30 minutes 5 days a week, so I will still be able to meet that.

I went over my planned menu yesterday, but it was day 1, so that's to be expected. I ended up eating two hard-boiled eggs and an extra string cheese. I'll be better today. I think I just need to manage my eating times better. Speaking of managing time, I need to go eat my morning snack (celery w/ black olive and oregano hummus) before I have to be across the street for jury duty at 10!

Adios, and I hope everyone has a great day!!

Hi guys! I'm on my 2nd day of Phase 1! I work out a lot so I'm a little bit nervous about how these first two weeks will affect that, but I'm going to keep plugging away!

I did pretty well yesterday I think. My protein was the highest it's been in a long time and I kept my calories around 1400 :).

LaMariposa018 07-28-2009 04:24 PM

Kim - I'm going to try to get some big bags of veggies from Sam's next time I go. I usually buy the california blend, but DH yelled at me for giving him all the carrots out of the bag...lol. Jury duty - blech! My FIL was on grand jury for a few months. I've been lucky so far....

kk83 - good luck this week! You can do it! How are you feeling? I wasn't really sluggish until this week (I just started week 2).

Tryin2LoseIt 07-28-2009 04:51 PM

Hello to all! I'm back (again) on Phase 1, day 2! Yesterday went alright, although I hadn't been to the grocery so I had to make meals out of what I had. I actually ate a boca burger for breakfast today just to eat something. I went to the store at lunch to avoid this happening again!

A quick question I have is this... the diet goes meal-snack-meal-snack-meal. I am a person that really has to eat something around 8-8:30 at night. I don't know why, but my body craves something and if I don't plan for it, it can get out of control!

Is a snack like this allowed as long as it's OP? Raw veggies, a lf string cheese, almonds (if I haven't had my 15 for the day), etc. Last night I had about 10 turkey pepperonis and it was wonderful!

Congrats to all of you for the weight you've lost and are going to lose! I can't wait to start shedding some pounds. Since I live in FL, we tend to hibernate in the summer instead of winter due to the heat, so I've been pretty lazy with eating and exercising.

Looking forward to some knowledge on the evening snack! (Also, I never eat desert, just don't like sweets!)

Thanks!

Hi, Tryin2LoseIt! Welcome back to P1! I don't have the book right in front of me, but I do believe the formula is actually meal-snack-meal-snack-meal-snack/dessert. I always eat a post-dinner snack. I have a sweet-tooth, so I typically choose one of the OP desserts, but if I'm out of the stuff to make that, I'll have a small salad, some veggies w/ hummus and etc. I've pretty much always eaten my nut/cheese allotment for the day, but I think that anything OP is okay. The book, in particular the Phase 1 chapter and Phase 1 FAQ's, don't mention anything about how late you eat, so I think you're good to go!

kk83: WTG on getting through your first day! I work out pretty hard as well and do have to take a step back on intensity for the first 3-7 days. I'm usually back to normal by the end of P1. I'm sure you know your body, so just take it easy if needed. If I try to do normal intensity, I tend to get dizzy and/or nauseous.

I'm out of jury duty. Yay! Now to face the remainder of the work-day and then home for a nice, long walk. I stuffed my face with almonds, too many of course, but it was the only thing OP that I could think of to throw in my purse during the jury selection. I'm sure it'll be fine and I'll just move forward with the rest of my day. Okay, now I really need to hit the stack on my desk that piled up while at the courthouse!

kleo 07-28-2009 08:21 PM

Good day, everyone! Just checking in to say hi and that I'm still plugging halfway through Phase 1. I am suffering some burnout though so I will search the recipes tonight for some new ideas for the remainder of the week. I'm not having trouble with cravings...I just crave VARIETY because I have been eating the same old things. Any suggestions would be welcome!

bekabu1282 07-28-2009 09:47 PM

I am really having a hard time incorporating any veggies for breakfast I know its bad but uck is there any solutions?

Here Is what I eat almost daily I am a creature of habit

B: Boiled Egg
S: Light cheese stick
L: Head of romaine chopped cucumber slices chicken ff feta cheese and greek vinagrette
S: 100 cal pack raw almonds
D: Chicken and green beans

Thoughts?

kk83 07-28-2009 09:56 PM

I definitely just ate 1/2 a skinny cow ice cream sandwich and a sugar free pudding cup, grrrr.

I tried to make an on plan cream cheese/natural peanut butter splenda concoction and it just wasn't happening for me so I caved :(.

Blah! I had to confess and I feel super guilty seeing as it's all of day 2.

kleo 07-29-2009 08:12 AM

Stick with it, kk - you can pick yourself back up and get right back on plan! Do you have sugar-free fudgesicles and hard candies in your arsenal? That might help you out...

I am on Day 9 and I need to tighten up the diet - as the scale has stalled for the past 3 days. Suffice to say my vacation weight has been lost and now I'm dealing with more difficult poundage!! If I take an honest look I know I have been eating too much dairy and some of it was not lowfat. So...now that cravings have been kicked I need to spend the rest of my P1 re-adjusting my reliance on fats.

Now for breakfast! I think I'm finally ready for some eggs again - a feta cheese omelet sounds about right!

Have a great day ladies!

kleo 07-29-2009 08:14 AM

bekabu,

For breakfast, have you checked out the ideas in the recipe section? I might try the mock muffins tomorrow as a departure from the norm. Also, how do you feel about dinner leftovers or soup for breakfast? Not a bad option if you can stomach it!

CyndiM 07-29-2009 08:18 AM

My standard P1 breakfast is 1/2 c ff refried beans (I usually make my own), 1-2 c veggies (broccoli, peppers, squash, spinach, whatever I have in the house), some good salsa (watch out for added sugar in some brands), and 1 serving of either veggie crumbles or rf cheese. It's still my go to breakfast on cool days and days I know I will be busy all morning and need something that will stay with me.

I hear you. I was not happy with the 2 p1 desserts I tried. What I did, instead is take the attitude "This is only 2 weeks in my life I'll wait until P2." I made a different flavor of SF jello every day and really enjoyed it. You can make jello with sparkling water which adds some fizz to it. I also made a slushie with crystal light tropical punch. It is so important to eat foods OP right now. 2 weeks with some discomfort but well worth it later!

The reality for me; it WAS only two weeks, I feel great now (starting week 14) and there are wonderful options on P2. I'm baking right now. BTW I am finding that my tastes are changing where sweets are concerned. I used to crave something sweet after dinner but that urge is greatly diminished.

Best wishes! Perhaps someone else will have another suggestion for you.
