Anyone Consider LapBand with SBD?

My company is changing insurance and now we may have the option to ahve this covered. I asked the doctor's office about using this with SBD and they said it was doable. I have 100+ to lose and thought this would be a great tool. As they mention, it's not a miracle but just a tool to aid in weight loss. Any thoughts?

I guess it would depend on the dietary restrictions after the surgery.

I also have insurance that covers it. I think that it could be a great tool. I have wrestled with lapband & GB thoughts for the last few months. It is a very personal decision. Get informed about the procedure and life after-see if it is for you. I have opted to try phentermine starting next month along with diet and excercise.

Thank you both so much for your replies. I have considered LapBand before in the past but was either scared or it wasn't covered. I'm hoping for sure it is. I have to wait to get back to work to get an overview of what exactly is covered. My reg doctor had me try Topamax for losing weight. It just made me sick.

You have the right attitude -its a tool -why not find out all you can to make a decision that fits you =)

Thanks LUV. I really do love SBD so that was one of the first questions I asked the doctor's office about. I want to continue with it and use this as an aid/tool to help. I'm just hoping it really is covered. It was at one point, and then my company dropped the option as well as infertility meds. Now we were taking over by a much bigger company and our bennys are changing effective July 1st. Infertility meds are back on the list of covered. I briefly called to ask about the new companies bennys and she said if it was medically necessary then it could be covered. Keep my fingers crossed

I would get specifs on what is medically necessay - some insurance is 100lbs overweight while other incorporate your Bmi. Get all the details so that you need to know what need to be documented in you chart if you decide to go that route. No harm in covering your bases.

Going to be Banded!

After long consideration, I've decided to have a LapBand put on. My first question was "can I be banded and still follow SB". The answer was absolutely. The more research I did on this, I found out most people who are banded follow almost the exact diet afterwards. So please pray for me, as I'm a little nervous. I'm being banded tomorrow morning.

What made me feel better is my surgeon has also followed SB and has lost 70lbs. He admitted to putting 30 back on also but like he said, he's giving me an extra tool I need to help me succeed! It's not a cure, just an extra tool for my toolbox!

My neighbor (and good friend) just had a lapband done about 1 1/2 months ago. IMO, the hardest part will be the liquid diet that you need to follow in the beginning.

My neighbor has been very pleased with her decision.

GOOD LUCK tomorrow!

Kristen, you are so right. I'm on liquids all day today and it's killing me. I'm starving. Broth and Jello don't help. I will get italian ice later. Friday and Sat were liquids all day with 1 meal at night, and hard to believe I was full after I had them. Now tomorrow is the surgery and from what I'm told, because of a little swelling, I might not feel that hungry the first few days! Fingers crossed on that one!

Wish you well for your surgery tomorrow.

Best wishes on your surgery tomorrow, Canwarren! My thoughts and prayers will be with you for a safe and speedy recovery.

Thank you both. I admit I'm a bit nervous as I'm sure everyone is before surgery. I just can't wait to get a jumpstart on this and am thrilled I can continue SB as a part of the plan!:carrot:
