Frustrated and ready to ditch...

I have been on Sb phase 1 for one week and have lost NOTHING. I have been on the program - no cheating and am ready to ditch. I need to lose 5 lbs in 3weeks so I figured this would do it - NO luck - HELP please!

What's your food intake? Can you post your food journal?

Also If you dont have a lot of weight to lose it takes you longer! I have noticed that...

SB diet is a long term eating plan, not for short term quickie weight loss. Some people lose very little in Phase I, especially if their diet was fairly healthy before, or they are not too far over their goal weight. What's lost in Phase I can be mostly water weight also. Try posting your menus here if you want a critique of what you're eating.

I've found sometimes that you can be eating totally on plan and not lose much...this is because everybody is a little bit different and you may be eating too much of one thing and not enough of another! The chix are right, post up what you've been eating and they'll keep you straight!

Don't give up, you can do it!

I only lost 1lb through the first week of phase 1 and 1lb on the 2nd week of phase 1 the first week of phase 2 I lost 3lb, Hang in there!

Something I notice - not sure if it's the plan or my body, but I might not have a loss when I expect it, and then I get on the scale another time and I lost two pounds.

mleajanko 02-17-2009 09:59 AM

Here is my typical day:
egg beaters w. ff cheese (150cal)
2% cottage cheese (90 cal)
eas carb controlshake (110cal)
tuna/lite mayo/lettuce (200cal)
100 cal pack raw almonds
mypolex lite shake (180cal)
ff yogurt (100cal)

Where are your veggies & beans? Not enough calories by far. Too many shakes and not real food. Why are you having a shake twice a day? South Beach is about eating real unprocessed food, not shakes for meal replacements. Your not eating enough calories to support a healthy metabolism so your body will go into starvation mode and decrease the burn rate of your calories. You need to be getting 4 1/2 cups of veggies a day.

yeah, what murphmitch said :)

Veggies and beans are mucho imporatante ;)

Chelby29 02-17-2009 10:11 AM

Sweetie, you are starving! You are eating fewer than 1000 calories a day! If your body thinks it's starving, it's going to hold on to every ounce. Add more veggies and beans. I eat lots of beans -- black, pintos, garbanzo. Yum!

Thin4Good 02-17-2009 11:37 AM

you are not eating enough. That doesn't sound anything like phase one to me.

Have you read the book?

TwynnB 02-17-2009 02:48 PM

Ditto, ditto, ditto!

I'd be starving (and feel like cr@p) on that diet!

zeffryn 02-17-2009 04:05 PM

Just a question or two...

Do you understand what the basis for South Beach is? It isn't just strictly low carb.

Whose advice were you following when you decided what your daily menu on South Beach would be? The foods you have listed are mostly not Phase 1 appropriate.

Have you considered Atkins? It may be better suited to you.

Artemis__ 02-17-2009 04:41 PM

Another ditto to all the above posts. What you're eating is absolutely not SBD.

rdw1 02-17-2009 04:46 PM

Please do note that we are not trying to discourage you, we are trying to help you realize what south beach is about. I would have to agree your diet sounds more like the atkins diet.,(which IMO, would definitely take 5lbs off in three weeks) BUT, It also requires more veggies than you are eating and more full fat dairy... I think maybe you should research a bit more about which diet is more suited for you. right now you are not doing south beach, or atkins... you are just doing severe low calorie which isn't good for your metabolism. IMO, this is why you haven't lost weight. your body is probably in starvation mode...

mleajanko, our Beachies have given you a lot of great advice.

Here are some other things to think about:
  • When you lose weight quickly, you are much, much more likely to regain it. What you lose often involves some muscle, but what you gain is usually fat. That means that your metabolism slows down. Over time, this makes it harder and harder to lose weight.
  • When you eat less than 1200 calories a day, your body is very likely to assume you are starving and cling to every ounce of fat for as long as it possibly can. If you want to lose weight, you need to aim for more than 1200 calories a day.
  • When you have a small amount of weight to lose, it takes a lot of time and concentrated work to lose it. I've watched people lose over a hundred pounds in less than a year, and then take 3-6 months to lose the last five, working really hard and not cheating the whole time. This isn't meant to discourage you, but to let you know that not losing anything in Phase 1 (the whole 2 weeks) isn't unexpected if you only have five pounds to lose. The idea is to get rid of cravings. If that happens, it makes it easier to stick to a healthy eating plan (for life!) and that will, eventually, lead to weight loss.

Hope you can take some of this to heart and think about why you think you need to lose five pounds so quickly. It's not good for your health, now or later.
