Hi Jen,

I'm a new member and just read about your job. I hope what comes next will be even better for you.

I view it the same way as raebear. I'm a counselor and even though I work for an agency it is becoming very clear to me that I have to take charge of building my own client base and view my practice as a business owner. It's a big transition in thinking but it's a way to put my finances more into my own control.

Good Luck!

Well that was a bracing way to start the day. Apparently it's dumb mouse season (I'll skip the details for city Chicks who find mouse stories squicky. If you are used to mice though it was pretty darned funny). I just relocated a mouse outdoors, through the snow. I bet some owl or fox or other critter is really pleased.

TwynnB 01-11-2009 08:00 AM

Lori - hits upside the head?!?!?! Hmmmm...I might be outta there. I guess in this economy and unemployment you've gotta be careful.

Those darned keys! The story reminded me of camping, only about 30minutes away, but difficult to get to (and no cell service). DH locked the keys in the van (I thought you had them! he says). This is when I realized I WOULD pay that AAA every year. Phew!

We didn't see that house yesterday b/c of the snowstorm, but it's scheduled for 11 am today...hopefully not to change again (I think the snow is done). I'm so excited at the prospect of having a home I care about. I live in a POS right now!!

Speaking of snow, we of course went sledding yesterday. My neighbors went to a large sledding hill that's lit at night in town last night...so I sent my (46 year old) DH with them....he had a blast! I knew that southern boy needed to try night sledding at least once in his life! What was crazier though...is that my neighbors had an outdoor fire afterwards, having hot dogs and marshmellows. Sorry crazy people, no outdoor fire for me at 20 degree temps. At least he had fun!

Have a great day ladies!

PS - Matt made my client a flourless chocolate cake for losing her pup last week. He brought part of it to work yesterday.....FABULOUS!!!! He's going to give me the recipe. It's only a little bit of food porn...high in fat, but no flour, and he didn't remember it being much sugar. I'll share it when I get it!

Pacergal29 01-11-2009 08:44 AM

Wow I slept in this morning. As I kind of figured we didn't get anything out of the passing storm. Don't think we are going to be able to bypass the frigid temps they are predicting though.

Jenski Very sorry to hear about your job. for you.

I finally got around to tweaking an old recipe I had for granola yesterday. Usesd Agave instead of Honey and Natural PB instead of regular. The Agave throws that taste off just a smidge but overall I am very happy with it and it was quick and easy.

Another day of just this-n-that around the house. Maybe I will finally watch the Dark Knight. Have a great day ladies.

Good morning everyone,

It is cold here but looks to be sunny. Off to church this morning and then

Lori- you might want to have a talk with your boss, not cool to be hitting upside the head, period. I can see overbearing but not touching.

TwynnB- Wish we had snow here the only thing we have gotten so far is ice, much rather have snow so we can go sledding behind the house.

Cyndi- Luckily we have not had to deal with any mouse this winter so far, but we also have the cat in the house, he has been taking care of the crickets in the basement.

Ruth- glad you found the keys.

Cottage- enjoy the snuggle time.

Have a great days ladies!!

HeatherMcG 01-11-2009 11:46 AM

Tynn- I would love to have that recipe as DH birthday is at the end of the month. I have been looking for a cake/dessert of some sort to use for his party!

she's hit me upside the head a couple of times....
I sure hope you are being facetious. If you mean physically, I'd be outta there darned fast!

It's a beautiful cold and sunny January day out there. I'm going out after lunch to give the dogs snow baths - I just rub the clean dry snow through their coats. It works like dry shampoo and they love it! I'd make a snow angel but would not be able to get up again without human help!

ellie6388 01-11-2009 12:19 PM

Lori- that boss sounds like a nightmare!

If we lived in a snowy place we would have the perfect backyard for sledding! But in Florida it's good for nothing, except washing away in the rain.

I slept in today after DH & his friend got back from hunting. I was proud, I made SB friendly food and fed it to 2 hungry "meat & potatoes" guys. Chili & Salad (added some bisquits for them).

I'm on Day 5 and haven't lost anything so I'm trying not to get discouraged.

I'm making the Rosemary Chicken and White Beans in the crock pot tonight with roasted veggies.

Didn't go to church today, we moved here about a year ago and the church we picked is having a lot of problems, our pastor left right after we started, I just got an email from my Sunday School teacher that today is her last Sunday. It probably for the best, she was okay at first and then it went down hill. I hate to leave because we have a great children's program.

Barb0522 01-11-2009 01:07 PM

Jenski - So sorry about your job. I'll say a prayer for you.

Ruth - I'm glad you found your keys. That makes me wonder where my extra set is. Maybe I should put it where I can find it easily in the house.

Me - Brian and I are back from Sunday school and church and we're meeting Don in an hour. He's taking us out for Mexican for my birthday. It was supposed to be a birthday dinner but he has to be in Ft Worth tonight so lunch made more sense. I'm not sure what else is on plan for today.

Brian spent all day with his dad yesterday. He didn't ask him about Winter Camp or even find out he will be camping next weekend. Sounds like he didn't ask about school either. They did make banana bread and built a kit that his aunt sent for him for Christmas. He's trying to get on Social Security disability and SSI and Medicaid and wanted me to cover him on my insurance for the two years it will probably take for that to happen. Um, No! The divorce has already taken a year and I'm not waiting another two. He wants to do the delay game rather than try to come to a settlement so I'm going to push for a court date.

Happy Birthday Barb!!!:celebrate: Enjoy your lunch with your two favorite guys. You hang tough with that worthless DXH of yours. I know you can't wait for the day all the legal stuff is over.

Loriann, I agree with the other chicks. Smacking upside the head??? Way over the line. How can a management person think they can get away with that sort of thing? To answer your question, I visit with Nessa on facebook frequently. She seems well, just preoccupied with her puppies.

Jennski, I am sorry your sweet deal has come to an end. Maybe there is something even sweeter waiting in the wings? I am constantly waiting for someone to decide that having me working from home at such a distance is not a good idea anymore. You never know when new program managers arrive on the scene.

Wish I could stay and visit longer chicks, I am trying to conquer mount laundry today, and my friend brought her three kids over for the afternoon, since her MIL broke her hip and is having a replacement today. How could I not offer to help? It means I won't be able to get to my work until tonight though, and DD has a basketball game after dinner, so I think I'm looking at a late night. Good thing I slept in this morning. Don't know if I'll have a chance to check in tomorrow but I hope everyone's week gets off to a great start! I did lots of cooking last night so at least I feel prepared in the food department.

Good afternoon,
Happy Birthday Barb, enjoy.
Cyndi - loved seeing your pictures. You look gorgeous, what an inspiration.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend
The weather is beautiful here. We took a drive on Lakeshore Road by Lake Ontario and it was beautiful. Yesterday I went to the market but didn't find any turkey bacon, instead I bought some adzuki beans, I have read about them and they are 25% protein but very tinny so probably will throw them into soup. That's about it here . Willpower has been good.

I looked in adzuki beans. Here in the south they are called Field Peas. They are one of my favorite beans. Yum!

Well, chicks, I just have to share this:

I'm on Day 7 of Phase I. No idea if/how much weight I've lost and I really don't care... I have a lot to lose, so if it's 3 pounds, 6 pounds, I'll find out sooner or later. But what's amazing is, I don't feel like I'm on a diet!

I expect many of you have already experienced something like this, but my goodness, this is a first for me. This is the first food plan I've ever been on where I don't have to obsess about food, don't have to weigh and measure everything, don't feel hungry, am not suffering cravings. Color me gobsmacked!

I've been carb-addicted forever. No day seemed complete without bread, pasta, rice, potatoes -- the usual culprits. Sure, I made certain everything was homemade and homegrown (well, not the rice), but that didn't make it healthful. I was frankly horrified at the idea of a Day Without Carbs. I avoided any kind of food plan that limited them like a patch of poison oak.

After my husband died, I gave in to comfort eating. I didn't really gain, but I sure wasn't losing, either. In the past few months, I started paying attention to the things I reached for when I was feeling sad. Carbs. All carbs. Bad, bad carbs. I decided I had to do something to break their hold on me. And I came back here to 3 Fat Chicks to have a squiz at what options I had.

I didn't know anything about SB, really, except the food plan looked like a good way to mount an offensive against the Carb Battles. So I thought, can't hurt to try. Success beyond my wildest dreams!!! :carrot:

I leave town on Tuesday to help see my dad through a surgery and will do most of my second week in Phase I away from home. That's usually a challenge. But I'm not even worried about the food plan -- it just hasn't been difficult to stick with it. Did I mention I'm amazed?? :dizzy:

A friend loaned me her copy of the book day before yesterday... I read it in one sitting, and it all makes so much sense.

Why did I wait so long????

Thanks to everyone for being here -- I'm really excited about all this!!!

Huuuuuuugggggggsssssssssss, Rae

cottagebythesea 01-11-2009 07:46 PM

RaebeaR, :bravo: I'm so glad this plan is working out so well for you! I hope your dad's procedure goes well, and that your next week is as successful as your first. It's stories like yours that keep us all motivated!

rebel 01-11-2009 09:12 PM

Hi, everyone. I think I'm coming back. though I know I should have planned things much better.

I just read through the weekend posts ans my heart really goes out to you who are facing job losses.

I just packed my lunch for tomorrow, and it's a phase 1 lunch. and planned tomorrow's dinner, which is a phase 1 dinner. tonight's dinner certainly wasn't. I guess (from my ticker) that I was last here in October. that was a half-hearted attempt at best.

my parents were here visiting over the holidays. so we did lots of baking in addition to the mass quantities of chocolate and of wine.

so, I guess I'm starting phase 1 tomorrow. I'll weigh myself tomorrow when I get to work.
