Food allergies, but still want to do this?

  • I can't have eggs or any form of dairy, I've tried the south beach but found it almost impossible without having those kinds of foods as options.

Do you gals have suggestions for substitutions? I'd really really love to start this again this new year, many of my family members have lost a lot of weight with it and i think it'd be a great jump start for me.

    Help!
  • You don't have to eat eggs on this diet, Carcar. Check out the stickies in our FAQ section to find some helpful substitutions, such as "Breakfast Alternatives to Eggs". You'll find plenty of ideas in there.
As far as dairy goes, you may use lactose-free varieties or soy or almond milk. I'm pretty sure rice milk is allowed on SBD, too. Just be sure to use the SF, lowfat varieties.
Good luck, and we look forward to hearing how you're doing!
  • Due to my casein (dairy protein) allergy, I can't have any dairy, either. But I've done SB in the past, and soy milk is a great replacement. Of course, it doesn't replace the cottage cheese, fat-free cheeses, yogurts, etc. that others get to enjoy...

I know it's doable, because I've done it. And overall, I think South Beach is a very healthy way to eat. For those of us with food allergies, it's just a bit more limiting and takes some extra planning. But then, we'll have that with ANY food plan, right?

    Good luck to us both!
