  • Sixteen days from today Old Man Sun kisses the Equator and starts his journey back north and the days will be getting longer.

Hey, has anyone checked out the crescent moon and seen the two bright stars nearby? The stars are really Venus and Jupiter. At some point in the early evening after it gets dark, all three are really close to each other.
  • We've been admiring Jupiter and Venus for the past few nights, RUTH. Isn't it a magnificent sight!

Yes indeed, I've been counting the days until we start gaining a few minutes more daylight again. I get depressed with the shorter, dark days.
  • We've been cloudy but it may be clear tonight.
  • That's pretty interesting, Ruth. Instead of rushing home to get in the house, I'm going to look for them tonight.

And hooray for the days getting longer!
  • Ruth, I did notice the 2 (what i thought to be) bright stars the other night! I stopped and stared for a while because it was so pretty. I was having a rough day and it kind of brought a little peace of mind to just take a few minutes to admire it. Had no clue it was those 2 planets. Now I want to look again tonight!
  • Try and get a good look at them girls, they won't be this close again until 2052.

DS has been very interested in stars since seeing them! They are simply beautiful!
  • Oh my yes they have been wonderful to watch. We have had our usual winter fog for most of the last two weeks but on the few clear nights they have been absolutely wonderful to look at while walking the dog in the evening.

They were so close together the first time I saw them and then last night you can tell them are moving apart again. Absolutely wonderful to watch!! Amazing little universe we live in isn't it!
  • They are out tonight in this part of Ontario. Quite a sight.

  • They are bright and beautiful in Dallas tonight. I just dragged Brian outside to look at them.
  • no stars here just the moon, and barely...
  • Here are the southern skies over Melbourne with the aligned stars and the moon. They have moved much further apart than this now and the moon is no longer smiling on us, but it still looks awesome.

  • Beautiful picture, SHAD, thanks for sharing it!
  • I miss Melbourne.
  • Ha Ha - that's Melbourne Australia, not Melbourne Florida
  • That threw me! I didn't know there was a Melbourne, FL!

We have a major snowstorm happening right now but I know the moon and stars are up there somewhere. **Sigh!**
