There is one in the UK too. I think they were all named after some bloke called Lord Melbourne - Irish peer whose lineage goes back centuries, but this one was a Brit Prime Minister (twice - recycling was in even back then) in the 1830's and 1840's. He was well received by good old Queen Victoria whom he tutored and mentored until young Albert came along.
Why the US one is named that I'm not sure, but if my history memory is good to go (and there is no guarantee about that) weren't there British soldiers and garrisons in that area before the Americans turfed them out?
