Monday's chick chat
good morning all, grab a cup of coffee and sit on down... :cofdate: .. and share with us your day..
Me, just got back from walking the dogs... and getting ready to go to work. I told the boss on Friday that I truly would like a stab at payroll without her hovering over me... but I do want her to verify I have all the jobs I need to coded right. It's quite painstaking, especially when half the jobs are certified! One of the girls took vacation this week to go to disneyworld, so things will be quite interesting this week. Other than that, not much going on... was slight depressed from being lonely yesterday... but I got over it. I hate being an old spinster sometimes! Anyway, Schmoodle and Kara, so glad to hear the DH's are coming home! :carrot::carrot: |
Wow I must be really early this morning. Got in from the a.m. walk with the motivator shaved 2 minutes off of the normal time!!
Good morning Loriann hope your day at work gives you a little more breathing space. For me today it is day 4 of a 5 day weekend..I really need to concentrate on this house of ours! Goal for today is finish the laundry and PUT IT AWAY, empty kitchen sink, and finding the couch in the living room! Now it is written out and I have seen it lets see if it gets done. Off to make lunch for oldest DS and get him to the bus stop. Hello everyone that is posting now and those to come have a great day and a safe one too. |
Good morning Chickies,
My head cold hit me hard yesterday, and I've been sleeping ever since. I'm feeling a little bit better this morning, so that's a good sign. I made Weezle's Refried Bean soup yesterday for supper, and it sure did hit the spot! I halved the recipe, though, using refried black beans and used one can of Rotel and one can of regular diced tomatoes. I like spicy, but those Rotel are too hot for me, and I even bought the milder version. :) I'm looking forward to a nice bowl of it for lunch today. It's a great head clearer! The sun is shining brightly and it's looking to be a nice day! |
Good morning Chicks :coffee2:
Loriann - You're really getting into this moring hostess routine ;) So glad to hear the job is going well and you are happy with your choice! Phx - Seems like the house never gets caught up! Good luck with your chores. Cottage - Take care of that cold. I know that it's not totally compliant but have you tried Emergen-C? We swear by it in my office and given how many kids pass through our office every year we've had some experience. It does contain fructose but really small amounts and works great for both prevention and speeding recovery. I sound like an ad ;) Just another Monday, dragging not manic (any survivors of the 80s out there?!). I do have a massage scheduled this afternoon finally. All my fingertips are numb and I've been getting headaches so need to make that a priority! Other than that it's all meetings and paperwork. What's on your list for the day? Have a good day wherever you are and whatever your To Do list holds! |
Good morning, Beachers. Managed to sleep until nearly seven this morning and feel very decadent.
Loriann, your new job sounds challenging. I hope your boss removes herself from your shoulder today. Learning is all about making mistakes and fixing them. Sunflower, I hear you on the finishing jobs. My laundry frequently sits on top of the dryer or my dresser and it only takes a minute to put it away. You'd think I'd be more organized at my advanced age! Cottage! Can you possibly stay in bed today and rest? Send me Cindy's phone number and I'll have a wee chat with her. CyndiM, yes I remember the 80's! I sure don't miss meetings and paperwork. Do make time for that massage this afternoon, OK? This morning - after coffee of course! - I'm off to town to get some backing for three quilts that are ready to be sent out for quilting. As soon as that's done, I can just bundle them up for the December meeting and focus on my own work. If I can ever get my camera to function again, I'll take some pictures. I just may have to find and read the HP Manual! Tonight I have a Country Christmas meeting. Delta's Country Christmas takes place for four weeks starting the 22nd. The Park is lit up with lights on the trees and Mr & Mrs Santa, there are hayrides, a different Church supper every Saturday and the highlight is the Nativity Pageant on the 29th. It starts at the Baptist Church with the No Room at the Inn, next to the UC Church for Shepherd and Angels, to our Anglican Church for Herod and the Wise Men and ends at the mill with the stable scene, usually with a real baby. Folks walk to the different locations following a star. People just love it and we get people from the city who come back every year. I'm an Irish Nun/Narrator this year and need to throw together a costume plus get the others out of storage and tiddled up for the event. I do go on and on, don't I? I figured I'll be crabbing about Country Christmas a lot over the next few weeks so...... Time to get off my butt and do things. Mondays always give me a burst of enthusiasm and I need to run with it an make it last! |
Cyndi, I'll have to look into that Emergen-C, and maybe give it a try. Is it too late to take it now that I have a full-blown cold? I usually take Zicam, but I was out of it. What's going on with your fingers and headaches? I hope it's something that a good massage can take care of! Have you seen a chiropractor about it?
Ruth, HA! Fat Chance! She just called to say Audrey is staying home today with a bad cold, so I have to head over there as soon as I can. |
Cough on her, Cottage!
|
 Not such a good idea, though. Then I'd have to end up taking care of her plus the girls. ;)
|
Well, just slap her for me, OK?
|
Good Morning Ladies
Cottage we could all send a slap her way? You deserve Bed and Tea and a good book! Ruth your town sounds so nice and fun! If Canada wasn't cold I'd leave NJ in a heartbeat! Cyn enjoy the massage and feel better! PHX you are kickign some butt this AM! Lori: You're doing so well at your new job! :D Me: DH worked for the 5th wekend in a row! The weekend was busy but good Saturday AM I had my first volunteer shift at the thrift shop. and scored a brand new David Baldacci Book for $2!! and found a big decorative birdcage for my Mom's birthday. Saturday night went to the local Country dancing club for a friends b-day no dh so no dancing but they have Salsa Thursdays So I'm hopign to get him there. Sunday in my infinite brilliance I Scalded myself with boiling water and now have an arm ful of blisters so I got nothing done yesterday and indeed have no food in the house! However DH and I did snuggle and watch movies all day so that was a bonus. bbiab Kierie |
Good morning chicks, here I am ready to get back on track! I posted my explanation/apology for my disappearance in the weekend thread if anyone's wondering.
I will be very busy for at least a couple of months, but I need to make time for 3fc, as the last few weeks have shown me just how important it is for keeping me on track. So, speaking of busy, I need to make this a short visit, but hello to all and have a great Monday! Ruth, I volunteer to go with you and pay Cyndi a little friendly visit! Ruth, I love hearing about the country Christmas. We have a little event like that here too, and I hope one day to have enough time to pitch in a little more. For now, I just do what I can. cottage, you can't take care of anyone else if you don't take care of you! That's a lesson I often forget myself. I love that bean soup recipe too, it's so easy and yummy and I make it often. It's great for when you're not feeling tip top. Cyndi, numb fingers, what's that about? phxsunflower, enjoy the rest of your long weekend! I am jealous. Loriann, have a great day at work. Yes, it will be very nice to have the old man around again. Time to walk the girl to school, "see" you chicks later! P.S. Yes, I know I need to change that avatar. I'll see if I can find something appropriate today. ETA: Hi Kierie! |
Hiya chicks!
I'm here just a lil hurt - had a colision with the firts baseman in our softball game and messed up my right foot and leg not sure if it's a break or fracture so we willsee what the doc says. Hope everyone is well. |
Yikes, Gonna, hope it's not broken!
|
MOrning girls, quick update for me this morning. Breakfast is already made and cooling.
I have to go in for bloodwork - the last time I went in, the lady that would do the test was at lunch and I wasn't willing to wait...so, back in today. At least DH gets off at 1 and will be able to take DS for me. Ironing! A LOT of it. i don't know why I slack so much with ironing....probably because I hate it so. Haircuts for both my boys and an eyebrow wax for me this afternoon. Also, taking my laptop in to be fixed. DS did something and now I can't access anything...grr! Have a great day, ladies. I'll probably be in again after breakfast ;) |
good morning,
Cottage - hope you feel better soon. No fun taking care of kids when you are sick yourself. Ruth - nice to hear about your Christmas activities, that's what Christmas is all about. sunflower - hope the weather is nice for your long weekend. Cyndi - take time out for yourself. Ko - Canada isn't that cold. Its just a myth. Come on up. Loriann - good for you that you spoke up. Schmoodle -bet you are counting the days till DH comes home. Your kitten story made my heart break and I am not even cat person. Dogs here. Zeff - someday your iron will retire. Mine has. Kara - you will have to tell us all about the fabulous Christmas markets in Germany. Gonnabe - ouch. Me - cleaning up today, had unexpected company yesterday. Will dress appropriately and go for a walk today for sure. Trying to get some things done for a package for my daughter to send off before DH has his gallbladder surgery on the Dec.8th. |
newbie
Hi all! I'm new to 3fc and apparently can get lost easy...lol I posted a questions about dealing with stress eating in last week's chat session if anyone wants to look it over.
Congrats to everyone who is making progress!! I hope to get to know you all better and working together so we can all reach our goals! Quickly - I'm the mom of 4 girls (12, 10, 9 & 2) and wife of an often traveling hubby. I'm lacking in the support dept because I don't want to impose on anyone. I'm hoping that by turning here, I'll be able to make more progress than trying to do it on my own. Started sbd on Thursday, did well friday. Then lost it over the weekend. Started off well today and hope to keep it going. Going to be catching up on laundry all day today and need to get in my 20 minutes of exercise. Wish me luck!... ;) |
UGH! This is a full pot of coffee Monday! We are moved! I won't bore you with all the ugly stories, it was a very stressful weekend!
Needless to say the house is a mess, but I was glad to come to work today and just sit at my desk, do no heavy lifting, no unpacking, just work my brain today instead of my poor aching body. No time for personals as I had to catch up on what ya'll were doing without me this weekend! Schmoodle so glad to see you back! I have missed you! |
You Chicks are so sweet :) Didn't mean to worry anyone - I have a severely herniated disk in my neck, the one that lots of people who work at computers get. The only thing that keeps the symptoms under control is monthly massages and I've had to cancel recently.
Cottage - They will help speed up your recovery from that cold so if you can find them they'd be worth trying. Ruth - Can't wait to see the pictures! KO - I live for thrift stores :) I've thought of volunteering at the Hospice shop. Could be fun :) Schmoodle - We can help each other get back on track. I saw numbers that made me cringe yesterday. Time to get control again before the holiday challenges kick into full gear! Gonna - Good luck with that injury. Hope you're able to be off your feet as much time as you need to. fmb101 - Welcome! The hardest thing for a lot of us is learning that we need to make ourselves a priority. Remember that if you aren't healthy you aren't going to be able to fully support those you love. Pacer - You survived the actual move. Now for the unpacking ( we still have untouched boxes after 5 years :o Zeff & Sophie & everyone stopping by after I get back to work ;) |
Wowee--lots of talking in here this morning! Glad everyone's up and about in spite of it being a Monday! ;)
:welcome3: fmb! I'm so glad you've joined us in the daily. Did you want me to move your posts from the other thread into today's thread? We close the old ones so no one will be able to respond to you there. Also, please start a new thread and introduce yourself there so the members who don't read the daily will get a chance to welcome you, too. :D I hear you on not wanting to impose, but I learned quickly that asking people to support you in your work towards good health is NOT imposing. I had to get the nerve to feel okay about asking for things to be served differently in restaurants, asking my husband to keep junk food out of the house, and asking people what they're serving when I go to a dinner so I can bring stuff for myself if their food is off plan. It's hard to become comfortable with at first, but it gets easier very quickly, IMHO. :) Ooh, Cottage, could you manage to cough on her just before going home for the weekend? :s: I'm so sorry you end up working on days when you're ill. That's just plain wrong. I swear by Cold Eeze (zinc lozenges) and they make a SF version. They work best if you take them at the first sign of a cold, but they help shorten the duration even if you take them during the cold. Zinc and C work best together, so you could try both that and the Emergen-C and see how you feel! :) I hope everyone who's hurting or sick gets better very fast! :getwell: Today looks balanced. I've got some work and some time to get other stuff done. I'm going to the gym after work to do the elliptical and am hoping my knee (which has been hurting a little) isn't aggravated by that. I hate to give up my cardio, but can't think of anything that hurts my knee less than elliptical. I'll do my best to be aware of my knee and stop if it hurts. I've got normal chores tonight--garbage duty, dishes, and would also like to do something fun. Tomorrow I hope to tackle scraping the wallpaper! Hope everyone has a great afternoon! |
Quote:
I hope you can get your elliptical workout done without pain. I developed burcitis (sp?) in my hips when I was doing squats with weights and that was very painful. I'm actually in the process of trying to find a better way to start strength training so I can minimize my chances of having it flare up again :(:crossed: |
Wow chatty little group this morning aren't we? I am sooo not a morning person but this is a good way for me to get started(as I woke up after 9 this morning!!!)
Lisa- good for you for asking for a little breathing room- imo proving to her you have confidence and that you know what you are doing, but still looking for her approval! bravo! phx- enjoy the rest of your ong weekend- and gl finding that couch! I need to do laundry AND put it away too! Cottage- hope you feel better Ruth-I will be crabbing over Country Christmas too! I had to relook at where you are from when you said that!!! I work at Gaylord Opryland and we do a HUGE country christmas event every year...http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylord...go-ba-accmicro one of these days I will take pictures for you guys- its truly spectacular! However, you get tired of it when you are there everyday! :) KO-you poor graceful thing! take care of those blisters... and good luck getting dh to salsa! I wish I could get mine there!!! NOW, cottage, ruth , and KO- you ladies behave yourselves! No slapping or getting anyone sick! lol Shmoodle- I am with you about getting back on track. I woke up with a whole other mindset- I will have to go check out your post! gonnabe-ouch! Good luck at the dr! Zeff-good luck with your laptop! I hate ironing too- so much that I don't do it. if somethng needs to be ironed after washing, I probably won't ever wear it! ha! Sophie-enjoy your walk! fmb-Welcome! and good luck catching up! pacer-WHOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO on your move! now, with that said-good luck on the unpacking! lol Laurie- careful and don't overwork your knee! I used to use the elliptical alot until I felt like I could use the treadmill again.... now they both hurt me a little but I prefer the treadmill... for some reason the smoother action makes my knee crackle-I guess it probably does it with either one but I prefer the not being able to notice it :) For me today I am making a BIG list!!!!! Laundry, clean all the bathrooms top to bottom!, beans are in the crock pot, vacuum the stairs(I HATE CARPET!!!!!),put wedding photos in frames, MAYBEput the Christmas lights up outside... depends on how warm it gets... but I told dh yesterday as he was in awe that someone had already put theirs up- I said, they are smart-the did it while it was warm!!!!! and I think he agreed! lol OK, time to get a jump on that laundry-I did hte grocery shopping yesterday for the most part but there are a few things that wally world didn't have so I will have to go to Kroger or Punblix today to get them. I would also love to check out our new Trader Joes sometime- I think its open now... maybe I will go post a thread to get ideas on what great finds I may get there! |
Hi, everyone! Quick check-in for me as I'm supposed to be working hard at the moment. Our weekend of shopping in Midland was fun and I crossed off about 80% of our Christmas list! Woohoo!
Also, DH spoiled me a bit with new clothes (some size L shirts instead of XL or XXL) and some new workout gear; a pair of training gloves for the heavy bag and a rebounder for bouncing while watching tv. How long do you think it will be before he gets sick of the springing noises? Well, off to work...;) Have a great day, everyone! P.S. Schmoodle: nice to see you back again and I love your avatar! Did they have to postpone releasing #6?!?! |
Hi everyone!
BUSY weekend... WHEW, glad to be working today for a breather. I am on an organizing kick, didn't get as much done this weekend as I had wanted. I had a ton of shows on Tivo, so I spent a few hours in the afternoon yesterday vegging on the couch and catching up! The kids are off school tomorrow and we are taking the car in for service tonight, so I will be stuck at home tomorrow. I think I am going to tackle the kitchen cabinets. Seems like lately when I open the doors, something comes falling out at me! Kim - 80% done?!? I am jealous! I am about 20% done. I have a plan... just need to get out and get it done. We had a talk with all the adults in our family this year. No more gifts for adults. It was getting crazy, exchanging gift cards it seemed. We will focus on the kids, and enjoy meals and drinks to celebrate the holidays. Boy did it take a lot of stress off the shopping list. I am so in the mood for the holidays, I can't wait to decorate!! I went to the gym this morning, in the cold and dark. Boy it was cold!! I need to start dressing warmer for the 5 minute walk there. Rikki - you sound like you have a BUSY day ahead!! Hope you get it all done! Schmoodle - glad to see you back. Gonnabe - take care of that foot! Anyone heard from Nessa? Hello to everyone else. Gotta run to pick up DD from preschool. See ya later! |
Jenski- thats awesome about no adult gifts, honestly, its nice to get gift cards but silly when you are shelling out the same you get in return when why not just have the dough?!!! lol. I talked to dh about gifts last night again, we usually get a gift for each other then lots for his family- we were on a budget last year with trying to buy a house and all and looks like were on a budget again this year with work being so slow... so I think we have decided on baking for everyone again... Mostly we can just send out one big package and everyone gets a tin from there! (Luckily most of dh's family works in the family business so one shipment is all that is needed, with many individual tins of course!) Then there are friends(8 of us all together) who we usually do a dirty santa giving with that is always fun- $10 gift from each of us that can be given to a man or woman then we open one at a time and decide if we wanna steal someone elses gift instead! Giving to the kids is always fun but the older you get and trying to buy for someone who if they want something will get it for themselves is hard! OK, now my mind is spinning CHristmas thoughts again :) I can't wait!
WOW Kim- 80%! Thats awesome and congrats on all of your goodies too! |
Rikki - it seemed like we could come up with a valid reason to several of the adults in the family. His mom hasn't been working much because of an injury, they don't have the money, just buy the grandkids a small gift if you feel it necessary and leave it at that. We don't need anything. Same goes for my side of the family. We can all tighten the belt a little and save money this Christmas. And most of us, if we really want something, we save for it and get it. We don't wait for holidays anymore. We wanted to go back to what the holdiays stand for, and that should be family and traditions. DH and I have gone back and forth for several years now and buying gifts for each other. Sometimes we do and other times we don't. We have started getting a babysitter, going to a nice dinner and show, hopefully this year we'll do that again, I want to see Jersery Boys!!
|
Sounds like fun Jenski, and I wish more people would do that sort of thing, go back to the "true" meaning of Christmas! I just found out some relatives who I haven't seen in a while will be coming to Thanksgiving this year, they haven't done that in a while I think mainly because of family spats and whatnot, so glad to be bringing everyone together for the holidays again!!! Nice to have lots of family around! Ours is very small so it will be only 6 of us related and more friends! LOL
|
Rikki - how is your HUGE to-list going??
|
Happy Monday all!
I had a good day of eating. Of course it was - started off with crockpot steel cut oats! They're our favorite. No stumbles, which makes me feel all strong and powerful. Tomorrow is St. Martin's Day so there will be a big parade and village gathering in the evening. Both of the school-age kids have been preparing for weeks, learning songs and making lanterns at school, so they're really excited. I can't wait! I'll try to get some pictures but I don't know if I'll be able to get any good ones since all the festivities will be outside after dark. It's convenient that it happens to fall on Veteran's Day because all of Connor's extracurriculars on base are cancelled, so we're freed up for the party. I'm pooped so I am heading to bed. Hope you all have a great day! Welcome to our new member! Kara |
To do list is getting there! I almost have the laundry completely done including the bedding-yeay! Off to go get the bathrooms done now, I got the kitchen cleaned and another load of dishes is going now, I made some hummus and that used quite a few dishes! lol turned out a little more runny than usual, I got carried away with the leftover liquid I suppose... oh well, still tastes pretty good and after being refrigerated it will be a bit thicker. Pintos are still going, I think I may be in need of a better crock pot... Mine seems to cook how it should on low when its set to high:shrug: who knows!
|
Afternoon everyone! Home again, home again.... sigh. Dr. tested me for pertussis today, and so I'm home again. Getting me an antibiotic too (I loathe antibiotics) so I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing right now.
Ooh, cottage, I love my Refried Bean Soup too! I kind of forgot about that since I live with a man who, apparently, doesn't ever have gas. I stopped making it just over a year ago. That sounds awesome right about now though. I bet the rotel would clear my little head right up! Going to try making Rachael Ray's "Salsa Stoup" here in awhile. Maybe that'll do it for me too. I really don't know what I should be doing. Empty house, feeling alright minus this cough but I'm about to take some codeine cough syrup..... Guess I'll make a pot of soup and chillllllllll. Hope those who are sickie and hurt get to feeling better! I'm sure I'll be checking in often today and tomorrow, since I get so lonely. Have a great afternoon girlies! Lisa |
OK made the salsa stoup and it's awesome. Going to post recipe in soups. Mmmm.
|
Am I the only one here who actually enjoys ironing? ;) I find it very soothing and peaceful. :) I put on some favorite music and just iron away!
Today wasn't too bad. Audrey "miraculously" started feeling better right after the school bus left. I kept her busy practicing her math and reading, so it wasn't a free ride for her. Cindy got home in time to take the girls to their piano lessons, and I got to come home early. (Well, 5 o'clock early, rather than 7, or later.) I just took a hot shower to open up my sinuses, and now I'm all settled under two quilts on the couch with some hot tea. Schmoodle, I was just getting ready to PM you to find out where you've been, when I saw your post from yesterday. I'm happy to hear that all's well and that your DH will be home soon. I've been wondering where Nessa's been, as well. |
Cottage - Once I actually get to ironing, I don't mind it...I guess it is just the "getting to it" part that I get hung up on.
Tonight is Jon and Kate + 8, which is my one show that I actually tune in to every week. I'll probably iron during that. I'm out of shirts that fit :) I have meatloaf in the oven along with some sweet potatoes and broccoli cut and ready to be steamed. The blood work took longer than I was anticipating and we got home quite late. I knew my dad had a food dehydrator sitting around that he wasn't using so I asked if he would want to give it to me...sure enough, he's going to clean it up and ship it tomorrow. yay! Now I won't need to buy the dehydrated apples that DS loves so much. |
