Thinking of taking time off your exercise program?

Don't do it! This article from RealAge gives the reasons why you should continue to at least do some exercise even if life has you so busy you can't do your regular routine. Here's an excerpt:

How to Cut Back on Exercise

Ever been tempted to take a little hiatus from your exercise routine? Well, here’s an unsettling fact that may help you stick with it -- even if you go with an abridged version.

Light exercisers who quit cold turkey for a bit -- rather than just scaling back -- have a much harder time dropping the weight they gain during the break.

Better Than Nothing
Lighten up on exercise and you may gain a bit. But do nothing, or close to it, and things get much worse. When exercisers in a recent study slacked off, they gained exponentially more weight the closer they got to zero exercise. And here’s the kicker: The research also suggested that a prolonged hiatus produces weight gain that can’t be reversed by simply going back to your old routine. You have to do more. Yikes. So even if it feels strange to do less -- like walking 1 mile instead of 3 or 4 -- remind yourself that it's infinitely better than doing nothing.
Yikes, indeed! :fr: This definitely convinces me to keep moving, even if it's a little less than normal, no matter how busy I get! :running:

I can totally identify with this article. Last summer I was on track and then I just quit. I gained back 30 of the 60 I had lost... in like 3 months. YIKES! is right! It fell off before and now it's hanging on for dear life! I need to crank up the exercise again I think !

I wish I had that article 4 weeks ago. My excuse is that I'm waiting on my resistance band to come in the mail. I'll get it together.

SBD Sass, don't take this as criticism, as I do the same exact thing (find an excuse), but I find inspiration in one of our mods former signature quote: "If you want it, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse." Maybe some walking until the resistance band comes?

The funny thing is that I went out for a walk today and did 2.6 miles!!! :carrot: This thread made me think about getting back on track with exercising. Great minds! :D
