Phase 2 "Must-Haves"

  • I am moving into Phase 2 tomorrow and am taking suggestions for "must-have" foods to make a smooth transition. I am having success and don't want to ruin it. I am stopping at Trader Joe's this afternoon and would love some ideas.

    Thanks!
  • Junebug, you'll find tons of great suggestions in the What's your P2 Combo? thread in the FAQ. There's also great information in the Emergency Handbook for Phase 2 thread.

The best advice I can give is to take it very slowly and give each new food a decent amount of time to see how you react to it. Generally berries are suggested as your first food because they have a very low glycemic index (GI).
  • And while you're at Trader Joe's, Junebug, you should try their brand of NF Greek yogurt. It's fantastic mixed with berries!
  • Thanks - this is just what I need as I enter P2 tomorrow too!

  • Thanks!
Thanks for the advice. I went to Trader Joe's and stocked up on some Phase 2 friendly items. I got the whole wheat english muffins, berries, & nf greek yogurt. So I think I am ready for week one of transitioning. Nice & Easy!
  • I added one thing per week in the beginning and had great results. Just keep weighing yourself once a week to see if you need to modify your diet.
  • add one thing at a time and note that an english muffin is really 2 grain servings.
  • Nessa, she stated on phase 1 thread she only ate half- Zeff let her know that they are two servings for whole muffin

The Greek yogurt is yummy when I can find it at the stores not everyone carries.
  • Pearl - you can actually make something very similar to greek yogurt. When I can't find it in stores (which isn't all that often anymore) - I take plain yogurt and strain it through cheesecloth over a colander (or you could probably use a few layers of paper towels). All the whey from the yogurt will strain out leaving you with nice, thick yogurt "cheese" as some like to call it. I usually strain mine for 8 hours or so (I do mine during the day, but my SIL does it overnight).

    Voila! Basically the same thing.
