Labor Day Chatter

Good morning and welcome to the last long weekend of the summer, Day 3. I have no company and nothing written on my schedule so any labour will be my own choosing. I'm going to try to do something to make me feel positive - maybe gift the Goodwill with some of those summer clothes that have been waiting alteration since May.

Hershey and Daisy have gone back to sleep. Having all those visitors for two days really wore them out. I must confess I'm dragging a bit too but not enough to go back to bed. :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Thinking of Cat, Mandy and Zeff today and hoping Gustav isn't as strong as predicted when he gets there. Stay safe, Beachies. :grouphug:

So....new month, new week and new day. I think I'll change my avatar to celebrate.

See y'all later.

Belle Mer 09-01-2008 07:24 AM

Hi Ruth!

I hope you have a nice, relaxing day. I'm going to spend the day with hubby since he's leaving tomorrow. I'm determined to stay on Phase 1.5 until I can get the cravings under control and see some downward movement on the scale

I woke up thinking of Cat, Mandy and Zeff, too. Stay safe.

Have a great day, everyone.

CyndiM 09-01-2008 07:28 AM

Good morning Ruth :coffee2:

How nice to have an unplanned day! Seems like you have very few of those. I hope the weather is as lovely there as it is here.
** love the new pic!

Cat, Zeff & Mandy - my thoughts are with all of you this morning. :grouphug:

Cottage - Hope all went well yesterday and Cate is settling in (her Mom too!).

I finally made it up the mountain yesterday to hawk watch. It was a quiet day but a lot of fun seeing the friends I see a lot in the fall and not much the rest of the year :)

I had a weird and somewhat frightening incident yesterday and am waiting for the doctor's office to open again tomorrow (am I the only one who says things here that I don't necessarily tell my family because they might over-react?!). I was out on my bike and had a sudden bright, disorienting view of everything around me. My immediate description was of dizziness, but I wasn't actually dizzy. I called Julie to pick me up (house rule that I carry the cell when out biking alone). As I waited I realized I didn't remember anything in the last half mile, 3-4 minutes. I've really thought about it a lot hoping I was just on auto pilot but there are specific things I always notice - an intersection and a field with birds - that I don't have any memory of yesterday. I'm not sure how I could have stayed on my bike and kept riding but not remember any of it. I'm trying not to get too freaked out or afraid but it is a bit disconcerting. Anyway sorry to write a novel just what I'm thinking about this morning.

Other than that I'm still dehydrating fruits, cleaning house and doing a little work I didn't do Friday. How about you?

TwynnB 09-01-2008 07:28 AM

Good morning chicks!

A beautiful day out here today....

Probably taking the kiddos on a hike, go grocery shopping, and just catch up from the overnighter we just had. We had a great time though!

WHOA! And tomorrow is DS first day of kindergarten...hope it goes well!

Thinking and praying for those near Gustav...

Cyndi - oh! Hope you figure out why! (or that it just never happens again!)

Loriann7 09-01-2008 08:09 AM

Good morning Ladies. Not sure what I'm up to today. I'm hoping to get together with my sis and her 3 lovely children (her hub has to work! yeah!)

Sat. I was feeling better so thought to take Jade for a walk, went to local park and took a very leisurely walk, half way through SHARP pains hit. All day yesterday sharp pains came and went. Not sure how much more I should wait, but we'll see.

DS came home yesterday, used his computer and while he was in here (the office ) I heard the shredder. When I came back I noticed the ONE piece of paper on the desk was gone. That paper had information I needed for an interview on Wednesday!:mad::mad: Um, is it illegal to kill only child? ;)

ladybugnessa 09-01-2008 08:13 AM

good morning
today is laundry all day...
ugh.

DH is still sleeping. he went to bed mad at me. oh well I woke up mad.

sleep on big baby... sleep on... and he can't understand why i'm tired at 11

have a great day gals.

Barb0522 09-01-2008 09:32 AM

Ruth, Belle, Twynn - Have a nice relaxing day.

Cat, Zeff and Mandy - I'm praying for you. It looks like it's a category 2 right now. I'm so glad it isn't the cat 5 they were talking about a couple of days ago but I still know how much devastation it could cause.

Cyndi - That is scary! Please get it checked out asap.

Lori - I don't know how much longer you should wait on those pains either. I worry about them. As to the shredder, I still keep mine put up but now that Brian is older, he is usually the one who shreds the pile when I give him the okay.

Nessa - I'm always tired at 11. I am definitely a morning person and Robert was a night one. Just one more sign of incompatiblilty.

Brian is still sleeping in. I'm waiting until I think it is late enough to disturb my neighbors and then I am getting out and mowing. I wonder if Office Max is open today? I have a LOT to do to prepare for scribe for Wood Badge. Grace (my assistant) and I may get together today if we can and work on some of this now that I have this huge laser printer.

I ended up losing a pound and a half which I think is great considering we were eating junk for 4 days on vacation. I've got healthy food planned for the week and am either going to do straight phase 1 or as close to it as I can. Phase 1 is planned but if I get stuck at the hospital or something I'll just do as best as I can. I'm not having cravings so I just want to cut the starches back for a few days. I had a lot of fun picking out phase 1 recipes to try for the week.

Schmoodle 09-01-2008 09:37 AM

Good morning chicks, me too, I woke up and turned CNN on right away to see how things were going with Gustav.

This has been a weekend of getting things done, and today will be too. Laundry in right now, I will re-spray the yard this morning and weed the garden. Some work in the office, and I have volunteered to help close the pool today. Cookout at my Mom's for dinner. But after this morning's load, I am all caught up on laundry, my house is sparkly clean (for a change), menus planned for the week, grass cut, and that is a good feeling. Wishing all weekends were three days long!

August was okay but I hope to kick up the weight loss a notch in September. The missing element right now is the exercise, got out of my routine, badness.

Nessa,
I had to laugh at your post, but I am sorry you and DH are on the outs. Maybe you will get some good make up sex out of it?
Twynn, have a lovely day and good luck that first day goes smoothly tomorrow.
Loriann, take care of yourself.
Cyndi, stay off that bike until you get checked out. Sounds like a scary moment!
Ruth, are you still soaking? Enjoy!
Belle, good luck with Ph 1.5. Cravings suck.

Any Gulf coast chicks checking in today? You ladies hang on tight and stay safe!

zeffryn 09-01-2008 09:43 AM

morning girls, only a few minutes available this morning....more later, maybe?

Gustav came ashore this morning as a strong cat. 2, it is supposed to dissipate to a trop. storm just north of Lafayette....meaning we should only be seeing winds around 100 mph instead of 150 like earlier predicted. :)

Winds are around 20-30 mph right now with a sprinkle of two or rain.

It will still be scary and we'll almost for sure lose power - but it won't damage as much and power should be restored within a day.

Talk to you later this morning, girls! DS and DH are dying for pancakes!

Loriann7 09-01-2008 09:50 AM

Barb, my son is 19 and doesn't live home, He stopped in for a visit.

little chick 09-01-2008 10:45 AM

Just popping in to say Hello, trying to get last minute things done for school to start tomorrow. And it is back to ph 1 for me. I love Sept. My thoughts are with you Femme, Zeffe, and Mandy. I have been watching CNN. Take care chicks.

zeffryn 09-01-2008 10:56 AM

pancakes made with lemon yogurt and peaches/raspberries are so good!

tkglenn 09-01-2008 11:17 AM

Hi everyone, I know I haven't been here for a long time. I think about you all the time. Hope everyone is doing well. Zeff, glad to hear you're doing fine. I was thinking about you and wondering if you were gonna come up to houston. Cat and Mandy(?), hope all is well wherever you guys are. stay safe. I kind of wish the hurricane came our way. I need a reason to get out of here. Well, will try to check in later. Bye!

hmacneil6 09-01-2008 11:17 AM

Good morning all!
As with the rest of you I woke up this morning thinking about Cat, Zeff, & Mandy. I was relieved to hear that the storm's power had been reduced to a cat. 2. I just hope that it continues to calm and that everyone in the area is safe.

Ruth - How nice that you plan to do something to make yourself feel good today. I think taking items to the Goodwill is a great idea!

Belle - Enjoy your day with your dh. I know you don't often have a lot of time with him so this should be nice.

Cyndi - Get checked out! That's scary, and even though you don't want to be too concerned about it, a visit to the Dr. might be in order. Have a peaceful day!

Twynnb - Glad to hear that you had a good weekend adventure! Have fun getting ds ready for kindergarten tomorrow!

Lori - Sorry to hear that you're still dealing with pain and that you're son's making you crazy. I hope today is better!

Nessa - Morning! I hope you and dh can put aside your issues in order to have a good day today!

Barb - Good job on the 1.5 down. Great accomplishment considering all of the craziness going around you. I hope today can be peaceful. And yes, I do believe that Office Max is open today!

Schmoodle - Doesn't a clean house feel great! We had guests over this weekend and the house was cleaned from head to foot. I LOVE waking up to a clean house. I'll be joining you on the exercise train. I've got to get my butt in gear this month.

Zeff - Thanks for stopping by! So good to hear from you! Hope everything goes good today. My prayers are with you and the others. Hang in there and let us know how your doing as soon as you can!

L/C - Have fun getting ready to send the kids back to school!

Me - Well, I lost 1.5 pounds last month. Not quite goal (which was 3 pounds), but at least I lost! Grocery shopping and picking up a new computer  is on the docket this morning. Then this afternoon we're headed to a friend's for a cookout. We seem to do a lot, but our friends are really important to us!
I'm looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. It'll be good to be back in routine. I'm actually looking forward to waking up early and exercising. I've got my menu ready to go. It should be a good month!!
Have a great Labor day, ladies!!!
ENJOY!!

kitty

zeffryn 09-01-2008 01:24 PM

Shouldn't be too much longer before we see the actual hurricane. We're still seeing rain bands. Already lost a small palm that was planted last year....base is still there....not sure where the fronds are...:)

electricity is flickering, but seems to be holding strong.

CyndiM 09-01-2008 01:53 PM

I'm back :)

Cat & Zeff - Glad to hear this thing isn't as strong as predicted (it's the first question I asked leaving the dr's office). I hope that's your experience - that it is less disruptive than predicted. With any luck we will see you both on line soon!

Loriann - moving and leaving no forwarding address might be cheaper in the long run ;)

TkGlenn - It's great to see you! How are things?

I ended up going to the Urgent Care place down the road. I called the insurance co. nurse line assuming they would tell me to check in with my doc tomorrow but they recommended seeing someone within a couple of hours.Ah well, I didn't have any major plans for my day anyway. Apparently my freak status continues - I had a transient global amnesia event. Quite unusual, of course. The great news is they don't repeat and I can go about my life without concern. They do recommend I have some imaging done to make sure there is no area of concern but it's not urgent. :carrot: It's good to feel like me again and not some super cautious person afraid to do anything. Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

hmacneil6 09-01-2008 02:59 PM

Good job, Cyndi! Good to hear that all is well!!!

Jenskihere 09-01-2008 07:46 PM

Can someone explain to me how the exercise challenge works? I put my name in, with the dates listed out. I have no idea how this works now. Do we keep track of it at home, then update at the end of the month?
Well, I have been sick all weekend. Stinks, but I would rather be rested for the weekday than dragging with the flu! Dh was home, so I got a lot of rest, now he is sick!!
I forced myself to take a walk today, alone, with my iPod. I went so much farther than I had expected and came home EXHAUSTED!! It was good for me!!
I made a few recipes today, I am prepared for a few days. Made the crustless lemon pie today, anyone try that? It looked good!!
Happy Labor Day! I did nothing but take my walk, lay in the hammock and read and watch the kids in the sprinkler. Enjoying what is left of summer!

Jenny

Fat Melanie 09-01-2008 08:03 PM

Jenksihere, each day, or whenever you are able, you edit your Exercise challenge post and update what you did for that day. For example, today is September 1st and I did 1 hr of cardio, (gotta brag, I'm so proud of myself, I'm usually so lazy) so I've gotta go edit my post and type in 60 minutes next to September 1st. Hope that helped. :)

Barb0522 09-01-2008 10:27 PM

Jenny - Mel explained it great. Edit your post during the month to add in your exercise and total your time as you go. Somewhere in the first couple of days of the month, I go in look at the totals. The highest person becomes that month's exercise queen and those who have at least 1000 minutes become princesses. Next month I may need someone else to handle the totals because I will be at Wood Badge Oct 2-5.

Well, I got the grass mowed and had 10 minutes to scarf down some lunch and then we headed to the hospital. We stayed for 7 hours with a break to run out to dinner at the nearest place (BBQ). So I wasn't totally OP but did okay considering. Robert is doing much better except he has trouble breathing when he isn't on the oxygen so he is scheduled for a chest x-ray tomorrow. This has been very good for our relationship. We're more able to talk now which is good for Brian. And I found someone to watch Brian while I'm at Wood Badge in one month! :carrot: Criss is a nanny (for babies now but school age before) and she is willing to take him for the 3 nights (and then 3 nights two weeks later). She'll make sure he gets to visit with his Dad and that he gets to school and picked up. And he knows her so he is comfortable with her.
