It's just that.....nectar from the agave fruit. :) It has a very low glycemic level, but still isn't ok for P1 (I've heard mixed things on the board, but to be safe...) I use it now that I'm on P2 instead of Splenda. It doesn't give me as much gas (excuse the TMI) and bloating as Splenda and still tastes great. It has a taste reminiscent of honey.

tkglenn 04-24-2008 10:31 AM

what exactly is a brazilian wax? sounds naughty lol!

hmacneil6 04-24-2008 10:52 AM

Kara & Zeff - Thanks for the info on the nectar. Good to know, I might find some and use it in my tea. Is Trader Joes a good place to find it? Or might it even be in a really large/well stocked grocery store?

FluffyK 04-24-2008 10:54 AM

I am fairly sure that a Brazilian wax is where they wax your bikini area into this narrow little strip - so you can wear your skinny mini Rio bikini bottoms.

tomandkara 04-24-2008 10:58 AM

Oh, my word. You ladies are making me blush!

Tawnya, Gilad cracks me up as well! His troop is just too much!

Heather, I can find agave nectar at Trader Joe's and Wegman's. I think I also saw it at Whole Foods when I went window shopping there awhile ago. Shop Rite and Acme have not had it.

Kim, no news seems to be good news! Please let us know how things go on Monday!

Nessa, have fun!

Kara

Schmoodle 04-24-2008 11:27 AM

OMG, Nessa you are bold! I could never - I just do my own.

beachgal 04-24-2008 11:31 AM

Gonna, Happy Anniversary! My DH did a trip like that for my 30th birthday and it drove me nuts but was SO exciting. Hope you have a blast!

Nessa, you crack me up! I'm glad you're having a pampering day! I loooooove facials. Someone to massage my face everyday would be awesome. :cloud9: I've never done a Brazilian, though I'd love to try it. How did you find someone you could trust to do it? It's not a question I'd usually ask my friends... :o I get a bikini wax, but the woman who usually does it has some trouble ripping off the strips every now and then. It's not an issue for me with the bikini area, but if it was a Brazilian and something stuck? :yikes: :faint: That would not be fun.

TK, I was on St. John's Wort when I didn't have health insurance but knew I was depressed. It can be very helpful--it's an herbal supplement, so it's over the counter. However, because it's an herb, it's not reviewed by the FDA, so you want to make sure that you are getting a good brand that isnt' including bad or low quality stuff. Nonetheless, since I took St. John's they have released a lot of information about interactions between it and prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, food, and alcohol. It can be very dangerous in those situations. Here are just some of them:

Quote:

Examples of medications that may be affected by St. John's wort in this manner include carbamazepine, cyclosporin, irinotecan, midazolam, nifedipine, birth control pills, simvastatin, theophylline, tricyclic antidepressants, warfarin, or HIV drugs such as non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) or protease inhibitors (PIs).
...
Case reports exist of significant reductions in cyclosporine, tacrolimus, and mycophenolic acid drug levels, and possible organ rejections in people with transplants who are taking St. John's wort. Reports also exist of altered menstrual flow, bleeding, and unwanted pregnancies in women taking birth control pills and St. John's wort at the same time. St. John's wort may interact with digoxin or digitoxin, resulting in a decrease in digoxin blood concentration. In general, individuals should check the package insert and speak with a qualified healthcare professional including a pharmacist about possible interactions with St. John's wort.
...
St. John's wort may lead to increased risk of sun sensitivity when taken with other drugs such as antibiotics or birth control pills. St. John's wort may interact with anesthetic drugs. A possible interaction with loperamide (Imodium®) has been reported; confusion and agitation occurred in one patient taking St. John's wort, loperamide, and the herb valerian ( Valeriana officinalis ). St. John's wort may interact with triptan-type headache medications. Examples include naratriptan (Amerge®), rizatriptan (Maxalt®), sumatriptan (Imitrex®), and zolmitriptan (Zomig®). In theory, St. John's wort may also interact with certain chemotherapy drugs such as anthracyclines. St. John's wort may increase anti-inflammatory effects of COX2 inhibitor drugs like Vioxx®, or NSAIDS like ibuprofen (Motrin®).

It's also not considered safe for pregnant or lactating moms. I'm not sure if you're still breastfeeding.... :?: Check out these links and learn more about it before you make a decision--I would highly suggest talking with your doctor or at least a pharmacist to help you with the decision.

NOt breastfeeding. He was in the hospital for 4 weeks after he was born and I didn't produce enough milk so I stopped pumping.

Nessa-you guys are soooo brave. I do my own. I would just die knowing that my boss (if I worked outside the home) daughter took care of my butt lol. And the area of. My goodness. Kara-you said it best. Too funny. LMAO.

ladybugnessa 04-24-2008 11:50 AM

girls, i am old enough to be your mother... i have no shame left....

tkglenn 04-24-2008 11:55 AM

I'm somewhat young and will tell anything anyone asks. I have no shame--really. I don't care. Everyone is human. But I do do my own. Although, it's been awhile and Leo keeps reminding me.

iammare 04-24-2008 12:09 PM

Good afternoon. All you chickies who get Brazilian waxes done - more power too you! I have having my eyebrows done, I don't think I could stand the pain! That's why I love the razor :)

Anyway.... Short for me today - I'm actually on lunch right now, and am thinking about going to the cafeteria to see if they have any fresh broccoli for my salad. I don't need it, I just want it. :) Gotta love it when you crave veggies! :)

Hope every one has a great day!

tkglenn 04-24-2008 12:16 PM

laurie-would it work with leo's PTSD? The only thing he takes is ibuprofin for back and knee pain. Thank you so much for the info. I really am gonna look into it. I think it'll also help me get motivated more to exercise and lose weight. Thanks.

tomandkara 04-24-2008 12:46 PM

Nessa, do you chat through it or just close your eyes and imagine yourself on an exotic beach somewhere?

i'm pretty quiet during facials...

GONNABE165 04-24-2008 12:56 PM

Nessa your a hoot. I bet you would be a blast to hang out with. You remind me of my aunt Marti

Did a 20 minute walk outside on my lunch break - it was soooo beautiful out who could reasist

tkglenn 04-24-2008 01:09 PM

nessa-I would just be quiet if I had someone doing my butt. Then I would be the chatterbox during a facial--I think. You're funny. lol.

DD is getting tired. I can tell. I'm trying to potty train her since pull ups are so expensive and I've got a 9 month old in diapers too and how the world is going now, she needs to potty in the big girl potty. It's hard work. Better go and get something done around the house. See you ladies tomorrow.

FluffyK 04-24-2008 01:28 PM

TK - the only problem with talking to doctors or pharmacists about supplements is that they aren't generally trained in their usage. They don't know how they work, so many of them just resolutely tell you to avoid them and they are dangerous. A better way might be to find a homeopath, naturopath or chiropractor who is trained in alternative medicines if you are on other medications or have other concerns.

If your doctor or pharmacist happens to know about them, that is wonderful. If they just give you the "They're dangerous, they're not tested" song and dance, you might just want to look to a different professional.

The person I got teh supplements from was familiar with my medical history and was trained in their usage, so I had an easier path.

hmacneil6 04-24-2008 01:34 PM

Good for you, Nessa You rock and you know it!!!

tdiprincess 04-24-2008 02:39 PM

Hi all: Man everyone is chatting away today!!! So much so its too hard to keep up!! LOL...
Nessa I have to say you have fun getting pampered!! Congrats on surpassing your goal!! :carrot:

I did some gardening and laundry today. Now I'm sitting, resting and enjoying my lunch. Its a huge spinach and cabbage salad, with tomatoes, cucumbers, green and red sweet peppers, hard boiled egg, deli ham and turkey and some LF cheddar!! YUMMY!!
Anyhow, I'll be around...laterz

Kim_Star060404 04-24-2008 04:38 PM

YAY! DH is 1 1/2 hours away! Can't wait to see him. I need some sleep, though - fading fast and that Diet Coke sure is looking good...

tomandkara 04-24-2008 04:59 PM

Protein, Kim, protein!!! You can make it! (Plus, you'll need your energy tonight...)

Tawnya, how old is your daughter? I just got Avery done training and it's SO nice to be out of diapers! She still wears one at night, but I made a pack last from the beginning of February until last week, so it's not too much of a burden on the budget. She made it through the week in Florida, even! Well, she had one little squirting accident, but all in all I was VERY impressed!

Ruthxxx 04-24-2008 05:15 PM

What a bunch of cluckers! It's like the Discovery Channel. Brazilian waxes, indeed!

I'm just home from the big city and bought mussels for dinner. Yummy! I may splurge and have some white wine with them. After all, I do have to open a bottle to use in Moules Mariniere, right?

Donny my Yard Man worked four hours on his own today and the front and side of the house look great! He even cut back the rest of the perennials in the front bed. Apparently he knows something about gardening. He doesn't know the names of the plants but does recognize them as perennials - DH was totally clueless. He grabbed some potted mums once and planted them in the veggie garden in the tomato cages! Oy!

Life is quite lovely at the moment. Enjoy the evening.

hmacneil6 04-24-2008 06:32 PM

OK....Ruth, those mussels sound WONDERFUL!!!! I'm jealous!

zeffryn 04-24-2008 06:36 PM

Geez, girls. Chatty today, aren't we?

I don't think I've seen a daytime conversation chat go for five pages before.

I found a wonderful dress today for a summertime wedding. It isn't something I would normally go for, but it looks really great. It's yellow and black on a white background. V-neck with a shirred bodice. A-line skirt all in cotton. It hangs really nice and makes my ta-tas look dang nice, if I do say so myself. ;)

DS cut himself on a broken pot at the garden center, and the owners rushed around him and showered him with attention. It didn't take long for him to stop crying and start smiling. They gave him a popsicle and everything was ok ;) I think they were worried about a lawsuit, but honestly, they handled it really well and I'll gladly drive the extra 5 miles to go there instead of our usual place.

Hope everyone else had a nice day.

tomandkara 04-24-2008 06:47 PM

Zeff, I read D*H* instead of "DS" in your message and thought it was so funny that your husband got a popsicle at the garden center! Hope Calvin's boo-boo heals up fast!

Kara

ladybugnessa 04-24-2008 09:20 PM

ok i got my armpits waxed too.... she did a great job... and my hair looks great,.

FluffyK 04-24-2008 09:26 PM

I don't think they make a dress where my ta-tas would look dang nice... unless you're into udders. LOL! Nature "graced" me with abundance, and abundance doesn't ever look good unless it's enhanced with silicone. (Which mine are obviously not and never will be).

You gals are all making me wonder if I needed sisters or more forthright girlfriends, because I am not a user of wax or razor. You see, I have this thing about razorburn... I don't like it! Never had anything waxed and darned sure wouldn't start THERE. I think I need a "facts of life" talk for middle aged women, because I didn't understand the behind thing, either.

ladybugnessa 04-24-2008 09:36 PM

i just like being bare.... it lasts a good 4 weeks...

iammare 04-24-2008 09:52 PM

Nessa, I'm sure you're used to it now, but didn't it hurt when you 1st started going? I love my Nair (and like products), but if I use it anywhere but my legs I get chemical burns. They need to make a less harsh Nair - maybe it would take 2 or 3 applications, but I'd use it. :)

tdiprincess 04-24-2008 11:50 PM

i use the good ol' razor and when I need to I get my eyebrows waxed.. I DO NOT pluck!!! OUCH!!! :) this is a very interesting chat today!!
