Phase I Starters and Restarters - Oct. 10 to ?
I split this off as the other Phase I Thread was getting too long and slows loading for people with dial-up. There is lots of good stuff in that thread though so let's not lose it. Here's the URL for reference. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120860
New folks, once you have introduced yourself, please post questions or comments in this ongoing thread so all can benefit. Thanks! Ruthxxx Here's Didi's post. Hi Beach Chicks.. I've been MIA for a few days. Took a few days off from work and haven't been online. Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I've fallin off a bit, but getting right back on track. Being home over the weekend and not preparing did me in. But that's over with and I'm back beaching it... Di |
Back AGAIN
Well I am back on phase 1 AGAIN. I half stayed on Phase 2, but it obviously didn't work very well. I gained 8-10 lbs back which I feel is terrible. I attribute it all to a lack of planning, meals etc. I am on day 2 right now and doing fine. I just wanted to say hello again.
|
Hey luvscoffee,
WB and best of luck to you :-) |
I have been on SBD since Sept 23. I lost 9 lbs in the first two weeks. As soon as I went onto phase 2 I gained back 2 1/2 lbs. I've been staying away from everything and I only added one piece of whole grain bread into my diet - otherwise I am doing everything as I did on phase 1. This is not the first time this has happend to me. This is why I fail. I stick to it but I somehow don't do it correctly. Any advice? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm scared to try any of the other newly allowed foods since just adding one slice of whole grain bread has seemed to end the diet success for me. PLEASE HELP. I AM DESPERATE TO MAKE THIS WORK but I know I can't stay on phase 1 forever.
|
I'm on day 3 today! Doing well, down a few pounds. This last lapse has made me realize I need this to be a life time thing. There is no going back to eating junk. It will result in weight gain and tummy aches! Why is that so hard to grasp? ;)

There is going to be tempting snax and alcohol, so it's going to be hard to resist. Other than hat, I am confident I will succeed (ya , how many times have I said that).;)

flwrgrlie - Make sure you are getting your 4 1/2 cups of veggies a day and drinking enough water. It could be water retention. We all go through normal variations in weight. For some people, bread does seem to cause problems. Many do best adding a berry back as their first phase 2 food. If you post your menu, maybe some of us can offer suggestions.
Steen - Make sure you eat before you go to your gathering on Friday. That will help you to stay away from the stuff that is off plan. Get yourself something diet (or water) to drink as soon as you get there and walk around sipping your drink. Be prepared that there might not be anything there you should eat. You could also call the host ahead of time and find out what will be there. Sometimes I bring a snack with me that I know I can eat (like deviled eggs). |

Try posting a menu here so we can help you see if anything snuck into your diet. In the meantime, check out the What's Your P2 Combo and the Phase 2 Emergency Handbook threads. You'll find tons of GREAT information in there about how to make the transition. For now, get rid of the bread (or try eating it at a different time of day) and try something else--maybe berries? They have a low glycemic index, so they might be easier for you to handle. You CAN do this, hon! :carrot: |

I'm a grouch and snap at my poor husband...and the only thing I can think about is when I'm getting more sugar! :( It's not a good existence. Hi all! Phase 1 day 2 for me. Yesterday was fine. Terrible headache today, though...it's always the case when I give up sugar/carbs. When I'm eating too many I get headaches every single day!!! Many days are migraines!!! When I finally rid myself of wheat and gluten...I feel tremendous!!! It takes me about 5 days though. I ate whenever I was hungry yesterday. I took small portions and went back in 10 mins if I was still hungry. I made the Wendy's chili which was fabulous. I have enough to freeze for quick stuff!!! I also made the cheescake thing but forgot the Splenda (yuck) but sprinkled it on top (better). But so far so good!!! I posted "hello" if you want my history!! Looking forward to posting and reading (and losing)!!

I have a question! Haha.
I'm on day two and things are going good so far. I was wondering though. You know how it said on the nuts allowed list 3TBS sunflower seeds? Did they mean with or without the shells? |

I was talking to my husband last night - going over what I've been eating. he does the cooking and he's been making phase 2 meals all week. I guess I've probably been getting more carbs that way, too. We're going to plan out our meals together now so I can really keep track. thanks! I just found this forum and I think it's really great. ~flwrgrlie

Hey Everyone...Second time on SB Ph1 D4. Feeling better. I never made it to phase 3 because of vacation and went crazy. I forget that I can't eat whatever I want all the time. Vacations are my downfall. I have a wedding to go to at the end of the month and hope to be able to fit into the dress I bought 4 months ago (way way way too snug). It is harder this time. But that is why I am back on the forum. support is good!

Hi everyone,
I`m new to the forum,my name is Debbie.I`m a restarter of SBD as of today.Looking forward to meeting everyone, & support & advise. Have a great Monday!!! Debbie |
Hi Debbie,
I love this thread. This is my 3rd day of my restart and the support I have gotten is amazing. The last two times that I tried the beach I wasnt having near enough dairy or vegetables so I think that's why I fell off. :welcome3: |
:welcome: to all the Newbies and Re-starters! Feel free to come over and join us in the Daily Chat. :)

I'm back on the Beach
Starting today I am Beaching it again. Yesterday I "practiced" which means I intened to start but felt so crummy with a cold and with carb-fever I hit the cookies so it doesnt count as a start does it! NO!
I had trouble rereading the book (yawn) so I am startting here with the lists and recipes. I have read so many diff books that are similar (Dr Schwarzbien, Ultrametabolism, etc) but not the same that I am afreaid I'll screw up or bend rules because another book says I can have x... so I am going to spend some time here today reading your awesome posts! Fruit-free will stionk plus I wont eat Splenda. BUT I am stoked that I can have dairy! Yippee! Thanks for being here for me to come back to,:carrot: 3FC!!!! |
I had 2 practice days last week. I officially started on Monday...so day 2 phase 1!! All my old clothes don't fit and I refuse to buy anymore so , I hope I lose weight quickly or I won't be able to leave the house soon ;).
|
I'm restarting Ph1 today, I haven't had any weight gain in Ph 2 in fact, I've been losing pretty consistently. For some reason I've been having cravings. I had whole wheat pasta the other day and since then I've been wanting fries and other bad foods. I don't experience cravings when I have whole wheat breads or other starchy carbs. So I'm back on Ph 1 to get rid of these cravings.
How is everyone else doing? |
Hello Ph1ers, thought I'd check in since I'm trying to do Ph1 mostly this week. I've gotten a little lax lately about a bite here and there and starting wanting some of the things I haven't wanted in a long time. I want to get rid of the desire before Halloween rolls around and my little angels bring home bags of almond joys!
Yesterday was good, and started off today with some greek yogurt and almonds. I usually eat a bigger breakfast but feeling a little queasy today for some reason. triptropicana, the sunflower seeds are a great idea. I love nuts and sometimes go overboard on them. I usually have peanut butter, almonds, or pistachios, but 3 T of sunflower seeds would seem like a whole lot and last a lot longer too. I wonder how many pumpkin seeds we can have... mecca, sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get it right. The first time I did SBD I fell off when I started Ph2 because I followed the menus in the book and added back too many healthy carbs too fast. Finding this forum and all the great advice here is what made it work for me this time. browneyedgirl, some of the other chicks have said pasta has affected them the same way as you. It hasn't done so for me, but I rarely eat it, and then usually in a soup or stew, so I don't get much of it. It's good that you discovered one of your triggers and know what to watch for now! Hope to see you all soon on the daily thread! |
Hi!
I'm new to SBD - I'm on Day 2 of P1. I've done Weight Watchers in the past but always ended up trying to squeeze as many goodies into my points allowance as possible. I've been pretty carb-crazy since having a baby 18 months ago, and I haven't been able to shift any weight, so I thought SBD might be a good option for me. The information on this forum has been really helpful already, so I just hope that I can chip in, and give and receive support. :) |
Welcome to the beach, Silly!
Ph 1 will be a little tough in the beginning. The worse days for most people are days 3-4 but don't worry about it. Once you hit the second week your carb cravings will most likely be gone. Just remember that dairy can help a lot with cravings and make sure you get your water in. |
Cranky...
I am so cranky with myself today, yesterday I went crazy eating sweet foods, I am really getting fed up with myself...
I seem to just get past the craving stage, and then it's like I think I can just have a day off the beach, even though I no that I cant... I am so sick of myself, I cant stand to look in the mirror... I really love this eating plan so I have no reason or excuse. I no im the only one that can help myself so I really had to write this and get these thought's out of my head...aaaaahhhhhggggg:?::?::?: |
Mecca- Don't beat yourself up. Everyone has those days when they fall off the wagon. Just get up dust yourself off and hop back on. Have you tried having a sugar-free fudgesicle. It can help with the sweet cravings. The peanut-butter cups from the ph 1 desert thread are also a life saver when you can't fight those cravings. Some people do just fine with a glass of water and others like to have some dairy.
Today is day 2 of PH1 for me and since it's only the second day so far so good. I think I'm going to miss my protein shakes though. |
Mecca, good for you for posting here...getting your feelings out like that can really help! You might consider starting a blog here at 3FC. All sorts of chickies read them, including ones who've made it to goal and getting their comments on your situation can help so much! :)
Don't stress...we've all been there! The important thing is that you learn something from the experience. I read once, "It doesn't matter if you fall as long as you pick something up while you're down there." If you can learn from your experience so you don't do it again, it's worth the fall. Sit down and think about why you sabotage yourself. What makes you crave the sweets? When does it happen? Set yourself up for success by planning what you can do to ensure it doesn't happen next time. Share your plans with family and friends so you have their help. In fact, if you need it, schedule your start so that troublesome day happens on a weekend when you can spend the entire day with a friend or partner so they can help you stay away from off plan foods. :) Another strategy that helps is removing all off plan foods from your house. Ask family to stow their stuff away where you'll never find it or, better yet, to buy and consume their stuff outside the house. Make sure you don't have any extra money with you so you can't buy things either. That helps you refrain from cheating. Of course, it helps even more if you stock your house with SBD-safe/OP items so you have things to eat that you like and are good for you. :) Good luck...and keep posting here. It can help so much! |
Day 4 Phase I
I Posted In The Introduction Section As Well As On The Beach Bios. I Originally Started Sbd In May And Was Having Great Success Until September Came And I Am Now Getting Back On Track. Hello To Everyone And I Look Forward To Being Here.
|
Somebody recommended that I introduce myself here in this thread, so here goes! I am LIsa and I am starting the SBD for the first time. This past Sunday was day one. My goal is to lose 42 lbs, which will put me solidly into my healthy BMI range.
I'm really excited to be starting this diet. my parents have done it for 4 or 5 years now with great success. I am so READY to do this. I really haven't been very tempted to cheat so far. I think its because I know that if I fix my blood sugar/body chemistry now, I'll be able to have a small treat in the future and not wake up in the morning with the "give me potatoes now" headache that had become a part of my life. Interestingly, other than the day 3 headache that it seems like everybody gets, I have not had a single headache this week. Which is amazing, becuase I was having blood-sugar related headaches ( I knew they were BS related because they would go away as soon as I would eat something or drink a small bit of juice) several times a week this past year. I've also been wondering about my thyroid. I've been having some issues plus wieght that wouldn't drop until now and I"m wondering if I'll see the other issues clear up some. wE'll see! Anyways, I'm super excited to be here and celebrating my own and everybody elses wieght loss with you all! Lisa |
I restarted SBD on the 19th. I am doing very well so far. I am amazed at how much food I can eat legally. I fix my supper plate and its just huge looking to me. I thankfully love veggies and am happy that i can also still have an occasional starbucks latte too. I know SBD works because I lost over 40 lbs on it a couple of years ago. Too bad I went off the plan though... gained all 40 back and another 20 too :( But I am looking forward to success again.

:welcome3: to all our new friends!
Do post a new thread with an introduction to yourself so everyone can welcome you--most of our members on Phase 2 don't check in this thread, but I'm sure they'll want to make you feel welcome and get to know you! :D Gonnabe165 (great name!), the reason all the words in your post start with a capital is because the forum automatically changes all posts written in all caps to that format. All capitals are interpreted as "shouting" in forums like this one, so try typing with upper and lowercase letters, if you can. :) I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble lately. Did some sugar sneak into your diet? Are you doing Phase 1 for a week to try getting back on track? Try to figure out what's making things harder lately and what you can do to make it better--we'd all be glad to help if you want to share it with us. Here's some :dust: in the meantime! |
day 5 phase 1
Good morning all!! Beachgal thank you for the concern and yes my sweet tooth did kick in over the few weeks i did not eat or eat right as i was under loads of stress due to back to back deaths in my family but i'm getting back into the swing of things - 1lb down this morning!!! Hope everyone has a great phase 1 day!!!
|
Hey everyone,
 to everyone new on the beach. Today, I'm re-starting on PH1 I actually restarted earlier in the week but hit a snag the past two days. I ate some comfort food(junks) and need to get back on track. Gonnabe- I know exactly what you are going through. There have been 4 deaths in my family this year alone. The most current two days ago, my favorite aunt. Hence, the falling off the wagon. Of course, I'm sure she wouldn't be happy with me eating so badly so I'm back on the wagon again today. Good luck with staying OP all newbies and re-starters. |
browneyegirl  sorry for your loss and thank godness this is a lifestyle change & we have the rest of our life to get it right. I am day 6 of phase 1 due to my weeks of down fall for what i was going through.
