Monday's Chick Chat

Monday already, where did the weekend go?

I'm off to Curves, then cleaning the house before heading off to spend the rest of the day with my girls. I'm going to have to turn on the sprinklers in the garden today, too. There's rain all around us, but the ground is dry as a bone here and my poor plants are parched.

So what's happening in your neck of the woods today?

amasam 09-10-2007 08:16 AM

First full week of classes here at the College. I am hoping to get settled into a routine and hop the students do as well! With changes in our department this is my first week in seven years where I will have have a weeknight duty night - no fear of the phone ringing at 3:00 am - and that is the plan for the entire school year. I am so excited.

Today I am hoping to squeeze in a trip to my travel agent to pick up our cruise docs. Less than three weeks until Hawaii. Sadly, last night I felt that overwhelmed, what if we make bad choices, what if I have not planned enough, feeling I get before vacations. :?: I just need to relax and focus on the sun, beach, and relaxation!

Off to the day - if I can survive Monday the rest of the week always seems to get easier!

Ally

Schmoodle 09-10-2007 08:26 AM

good morning chicks,
It's overcast and humid here this morning. I guess Gabrielle is sending some rain our way. I'm ready for some fall weather! Just sipping my coffee and trying to get into workweek mode. We had a nice, busy weekend, finished up with dinner with friends last night. It's hard to let it go...
Tonight is cabbage roll skillet. I've got to get the ground beef out of the freezer and hope I can remember where I saw the recipe, or I'll just have to wing it!
amasam, a trip to Hawaii, that's something to look forward to. Take lots of pix and post some for us!
Good morning cottage!

Have a good one all you chicks!

phxsunflower 09-10-2007 08:54 AM

good morning,
Just started here this morning and finding all sorts of things on here that is going to make me late for a Monday. Plans for the week are work and trying to keep up with all of the kids doings. It is suppose to be 107 and sunny today! I do need to go water the flowers and front before the sun gets up. The weekend went to fast. Only if I could have had 12 more hours I would not be finishing my weekend this morning. Well have a good day.

beachgal 09-10-2007 09:04 AM

Wow, Cottage, it's SO wet here...and it was super wet over on the Eastern side of NY where I was this weekend, too. Your poor garden! Have a great time at Curves!

Congrats, Ally, on a schedule you like! Hope it's a great week. I know what you mean about that feeling before vacations. As long as you put it to work and use it to help you make sure you've planned all you can, then it can be a good thing. If you just let it bug you when you're already perfectly planned, then it's a bad thing (and I don't know about you, but it sure makes me want to overeat! :o ). I went to a workshop with SARK this weekend and she said that when your inner critics are driving you crazy, you should give them a job to do far away from you. Some of hers are off sweeping the third floor of the building next to her home and she said she sent a bunch of hers off to Nicaragua to search for a rare lemur over three years ago. They haven't been seen from since. ;) I think that's a great strategy! :D Hope it helps. Just don't send yours to Hawaii!! It's an amazing place and has this awesome capability to take all your worries and throw them off the nearest cliff (there are a LOT of cliffs!). You'll be FORCED to relax there...I hope you have a GREAT time! :hat:

Your dinner sounds great, Schmoodle! I tend to regularly forget to take meat out of the freezer. Oh well, we can't all be perfect...and that's what the microwave's "defrost" button is for! ;)

Me:
I agree with Ally...it's really hard to let the weekend go! I really didn't want to get up this morning. I had a wonderful weekend at a retreat, but it was SO nice to be in my own bed! :cloud9: I could have stayed there for weeks!

I have book club coming over to my house tonight and have to make dinner for them. I'm making a couple of Cooking Light recipes...chicken breasts with tomato-gorgonzola salsa and broccoli & mushrooms with shallots. I hope they like it and it doesn't seem too plain. I have all that cooking to do, plus I need to set a grand table with my wedding china and silver (the other girls have set the bar high! ) and do a bunch of last minute cleaning and dishes. I just can't chance swinging by the gym and knowing it might not get it all done in time. :( I'll have to go tomorrow, along with doing the grocery shopping I didn't get to do yesterday. It's nice to be away, but hard to come back to all the chores you didn't get to do.

Hope everyone has a great day! :sunny:

beachgal 09-10-2007 09:06 AM

:welcome3: PhxSunflower! Glad to have you join us! When you get a chance, post an introduction so we can all welcome you officially and get to know you better.

JessieW 09-10-2007 09:18 AM

Morning ladies. I've been lurking since I got back from Brazil but it's time to start the posting again! I did some good grocery shopping and cooking this weekend so that I can have OP things to eat!! I made two batches of breakfast bars--one cherry, one cherry and almond. The only I had this morning was delicious! Yay for putting those almost-bad bananas to use (OK, these really were bad...they fell out of the peel into the bowl. But great for baking!).

This weekend was good. I feel back in my fall Saturday schedule! Which is: my husband watches football and I do chores, go grocery shopping, crochet, read, freelance, cook...and he's still watching football. I did have a small crisis on Saturday night and he actually turned off the football to talk with me. It was nice. :) We talked for like an hour without the TV on.

Yesterday was devoted to church and napping and a little more freelance work. I am enjoying the book I'm working on, and that helps tremendously!

So it seems miraculously that none of my clothes fit anymore. So if I don't want to buy a whole new wardrobe, I think it's time to be back on the beach. We're also trying to get pregnant and I know it will make it easier and better for when we are if I can drop some weight first!

Love you ladies--
Jessie

phxsunflower 09-10-2007 09:32 AM

o.k. I am a way newbie even to the computer!!!! I can't do this with my 13 year old looking over my shoulder and laughing because I have no idea what I am doing!!! he says "lol". and walks out laughing. Gotta love them. Is there an intro or do I just go on and on about my life.??? send help my son thinks it is funny. Got to have humor on Monday!!!!

Ruthxxx 09-10-2007 10:08 AM

Late good morning here! I'm just back from the gym, have pea soup started and have been on the phone with Leslie, my local vet. She has Lucy's pathologist's report and says things are fairly encouraging. Apparently the type of growth L. has can sometimes be removed surgically. That'll be something to discuss with the oncologist on Wednesday.

Sorry I'm not really chatting these days. I'm rather wrapped up in the dog problems plus a few others.

dixied 09-10-2007 10:34 AM

Good morning everyone!

I'm (wo)manning the Front Desk this morning so hopefully I can sit here answer the phones and hang out on the boards for awhile. Our receptionist has decided to semi-retire and work just 4 days a week, normally our back-up receptionist would be up here, but I've been training her to do my job and I've given her a project to do on her own. So here I am, pretending to be perky and helpful. lol

I managed to jog 5 segments of at track this morning. About 1/3 of a mile, I think.

Other than answering the phones for the next 7 hours, I think my only plan today is to send out remider e-mails about my Pampered Chef party this Thursday. Tonight I need to do some laundry, and hopefully weed my flower beds.

KO 09-10-2007 10:41 AM

Morning Ladies
To Paraphrase Office Space "Somebody's got a case of the Mondays!" Ii'm pretty off plan but my groceries come tonight :yay: so I'll be at SBD Defcon level 1 tomorrow!
I had to order b/c we had kitty issues this weekend and the ride I had to the grocery (DH was working ) ended up a ride to the vet. The kitta is ok but his little hiney is inflamed! He's not a happy camper!
Morning Cottage hope curves went well
Ally do you have any room in your suitcase for me? I'm small!
Schmoodle Stuffed cabbage sounds so good. . I wish it would cool off so I could make some fall food!!
Welcome phxsunflower!! Definitely looking fwd to getting to know you! you'll get the hang of this internet thing!!
BG I'm actually going to make a recipe you posted 3 years ago for a fast black bean soup. . .I LOVE SARK! I've been looking for her books in the library but no luck so I'll have to spring for some Inspiration Sandwich!
Jessie Thanks for the book!! I'm enjoying it. . I just need another hour or 2 in the day to accomplish everything! I'm glad DH can tear away from the TV Mine has that problem with the Puter
Ruth my prayers are with you and Lucy!

To quote my Gram (God Rest Her Soul) "I have to get on my bicycle and get moving!"
Have a Great Day!
Kier

cottagebythesea 09-10-2007 10:56 AM

That's OK, Ruthie, we all understand. Taking care of Lucy is the most important thing for you to do right now. Give her heaps of love from all of us. And don't forget to take care of yourself, too.

:D I have to laugh, Beachgal, at your comment "I hope they like it and it doesn't seem to plain"!!!! Mercy, you're making a gourmet meal! It sounds scrumptious and I'm sure they'll all rave about it. That salsa sounds really good! :hungry: Would you mind sharing the recipe?

:welcome3: phxsunflower! That' funny what you said about using the computer. Up til 4 years ago, I never even knew how to turn it on! ;) It turns out it's a lot easier to use than I ever thought. I'm even continuing to amaze my grown kids with what I can do on it! :)

Good morning, amasam, Schmoodle, Jessie and dixie!

The house is tidy again, and I just made a batch of Nessa bars for future med-morning snacks. I found a zucchini in the fridge as I was cleaning up, and made a batch of zucchini patties, too. I'm not sure, but I think the recipe is in the Phase 2 entrees? I'll go look it up for you all, they turned out really good. Of course, I had to tweak the recipe a tad and used spelt flour instead of ww, and lessened the amount to 1/4 cup.

cottagebythesea 09-10-2007 11:02 AM

I found it, it was in the Phase 2 side dishes, posted by our dear Beachgal. Here you go:

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...cchini+patties

I laid them out in a single layer on a cookie sheet after I cooked them, and put it in the freezer. Once they're frozen, I'll slip them into a freezer bag so they'll be handy to just pull one or two out to nuke when I want them.

weezle 09-10-2007 12:05 PM

whhiiiiiinnnnneeeeeeee

Morning ladies. I had a fun-filled yet exhausting weekend. I'm staying with the dogs while my parents are in Florida too, so I'm just plain pooped. The doglettes don't like people moving in the bed at night so Sophie slept pressed against the front of me on top of the covers, and Oscar slept pressed against my back on top of the covers. It took me 2 minutes to get to my alarm this morning because Oscar refused to move, and it's hard to get a stubborn 25 lb wiener dog to get up in the morning if he doesn't want to.

Still doing well. Only time I'm not is when I have to talk to DH or see him. Makes me really nauseous and anxious. I had to see him last night for the first time since I moved out and it was rough. I really would rather not see him and just let him work on himself while I work on myself. The scariest part is.... I'm much happier without him. I thought I was going to be miserable, and I'm really happy. I don't miss him. I can see that I'm deprogramming myself slowly but surely, and my confidence is starting to come back. It's so nice to be able to do what I want without someone controlling me.

Ugh I need to do some work but I'm just so tired. You think anyone will notice if I curl up under my desk and go to sleep? Hope everyone has a good day.

Lisa

KO 09-10-2007 12:16 PM

Lisa just curl up behind your chair no one will see! I'm aactually considering going into my boss and asking to be fired! it's that kind of day

Kim_Star060404 09-10-2007 12:37 PM

Good Monday Morning, Chickies!! :D

Cottage: WTG getting to Curves! You are so disciplined about that! I really need to make a batch of those Nessa bars. This new med is really making me eat, while losing weight -- what gives?!

Ally: I do that before vacation as well, but I always end up having a blast while I'm gone! I'm sure you will, too!

Schmoodle: Don't worry, I wing it all the time! (Although I have a feeling DH would enjoy baked dog food if he didn't know it was dog food!)

phxsunflower: I know how you feel. This weekend just flew by! I considered calling in sick this morning just to get the weekend finished. I'll have to try to do it all tonight! :dizzy: If you have any questions for us, just let us know! You can post an "intro" on the main SB forum page. I think it's one of the threads on the top.

beachgal: Sounds like quite a feast. If they don't like it, then they just don't appreciate good food. If that's the case, you should just order them pizza and serve it on napkins! That'll teach 'em!

JessieW: It's amazing how much you and I have in common! My DH spent the weekend in front of the tv (was it me or were there A LOT of games this weekend?!) while I did the cleaning, crocheting and etc. We even did the same thing on Sunday! AND we're both trying to get preggers and lose weight in the meantime. Weird! :dizzy:

Ruth: Don't worry. You know we understand. We're still sending you  and happy thoughts!

dixie: WTG on your jog! :cb::cp::bravo:

Kier: I hope Kitty's feeling better now. We all love our furbabies, but they sure do throw us for a loop sometimes, don't they?

Lisa: I'm so glad to hear that things are going well for you! :D:hug: I'm sure the healing will take some time for both of you, but I really believe that what you did is for the best! Our puppies are banned from the bedroom as they don't like to let us sleep. Little stinkers! Hope you can catch a nap!

ME: This weekend was fairly lazy. I finished crocheting a really cute scarf for myself and worked some more on my afghan. Dh was glued to the tv all weekend although he did have time to pull up the veggie garden.

Today is just another day at work and then I've got Ladies Bible Study scheduled for tonight. Because of that, we're doing leftover Chicken tortilla soup for dinner and DH is going to have to iron his own shirt tonight. I've got enough to worry about! At least there aren't any football games on tv tonight! I need to call the doc this afternoon as she's worried that I'm losing weight too fast. I really don't know what can be done about that as my testosterone levels aren't any lower, so my dosage can't really go down. PCOS is a finicky affliction!

Well, I'd better go. I'm going to post the tortilla soup in the P1 Slow -Cooker recipe section if anyone's interested. It's delicious!

Pacergal29 09-10-2007 12:45 PM

Yes it is monday! I am unofficially diagnosing my boss as bi-polar. He calls me his work wife and let me tell you the honeymoon is over! Have ya heard the commercial for helpwanted.com where the boss is standing at the bathroom door asking his secretary to do something for him? Yeah that is how I feel every minute of the day lately! Oh enough griping for me.

Made some really good Bran Muffins over the weekend, added some pumpkin and spice to them and they turned out really moist. Used all legal ingredients and I am wondering if anyone knows of a good place to enter recipes and get nutritional information. I know some people use fit day for that but it seems there has to be an easier place?

Got to get back to work, everyone have a great day and I will check back later.

Steph

little chick 09-10-2007 12:50 PM

Hey chicks just a quickie, week end was busy doing not really anything. And today is shapping up to be the same. MIL is home and they put 4 pins in her shoulder, 3 mos of healing, 6 of physo. DD had a job interview sunday and hopfully will hear somthing today. Youngest dd has school cheerleading tryouts then she has 20 mins to get to her other cheerleading practice, I have two fundraising meetings one tonight and one wed. I am joing TOPS again tomorrow night just to be accountable for weigh ins. Well that is a quick run down.
Hugs and love to all that need it.
A big Welcome to the newbies.
Ruth- you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Lisa- you rock you are doing great. A big Hug for you as well
Love ya chicks but gotta to dash the school bus is waiting for me.

Bunnababy 09-10-2007 01:21 PM

Hi everyone. Just checking in for Monday. I attended a TOPS rally on Sat. and the speaker was speaking directly to me on a couple of things. You know how that goes??? :o

Does anyone know why I cannot get into the smilies? I can use the ones showing but when I push the more button it just goes "blip" and I get nothing. Oh well, I will live.

Ruth you are in my thoughts, you and Lucy.

I am off to work, we have a reservation for 32 people at 12:30 so I will be hopping to. DH is coming up to help cook for them. Keep your fingers crossed for us I think we have a buyer for the restaurant. Then DH can offically retire, I will, however, be hitting the job market. If I don't get the job I really want then I will just hang out until after the holidays then just put in applications whereever. I used to be a legal assistant and I think the DA's office is going to be hiring. Sorry, just jabbering. :D

Grocery shopping is my priority tonight after work. I have very little SBD food in the house. I am proud to say that even though I have not been doing SBD, I have lost from 294 to 266, but I am sick of counting foods and for me with insulin resistance I am continually fighting cravings. I know from previous experience that is not so after the first few days on the beach.

charolastra00 09-10-2007 02:35 PM

Just a quick pop in to say I got the job! Not that I mentioned anything about the interview.. but still. :P It's only 8 hours a weekish which is less than I wanted, but anything is better than nothing. It's working in the Women's study office as well as doing some side work sorting articles in Spanish (the director of the Women studies department is a Spanish professor and the undergrad department rep for that). I've never had a paying job though so I'm a little worried!

In other news, I've gained back all the weight I lost over the summer. >.< In a sense that's good because that means that my intestines are starting to heal up due to the gluten free diet but obviously we all know why that's bad :P My cravings have completely gone away though so I guess I was always eating before because I was mildly malnourished. Still annoying though as I have nowhere to cut calories out of.

RNMOM 09-10-2007 02:46 PM

Afternoon ladies!

I took some time to catchup on posts, sounds like you are all fairly busy. I had to cover up my garden with blankets last night to protect my cukes, tomatoes and squash from freezing. I can't believe it's that time of year already. Did we have summer?
My dh flew off to Chicago today, he said that as they were flying over Jackson Hole (about an hour from here) there was snow in "them thar hills"

I babysat my grandkids over the weekend.....ya know as an Emergency Room nurse I can handle some really tough, scary and gory things. People carrying bleeding limbs, heart attacks, vomiting....ya know routine everyday stuff. But babysitting these four darling little kids.....................it was rather scary. I'm not the mommy I used to be. I'm not sure how I had 5 kids!

Anyhoo, the house is quiet today and I'm about to tackle laundry and other things that got ignored while the kids were here. Eating has been pretty good after a few weeks of NOT good. Hope to get into my good eating groove for the next few weeks and stay that way. I'm taking my dh on a getaway to Sun Valley next month and I want to feel better about myself.

Hugs to all:hug:

weezle 09-10-2007 02:49 PM

Hey Bunna, check your popup/security settings. I had a problem with that before too. If your browser is set to block popups it may not allow you to open the more smileys window. Mine always said "a popup window has been blocked" or something like that down at the bottom left when I tried it, but I have Internet Explorer.

Thanks for the hugs and encouragement girls. I'm just so much happier now.

beachgal 09-10-2007 02:55 PM

Oh, Jessie, I hear you on the clothes. Mine don't fit well either...I'm praying that I lose enough between now and when the cold weather hits to fit into some of my nice pants...or I'll have to go shopping. I'm SO excited to hear that you and DH are going to be trying! That's fabulous!!! :woohoo: I hope you get super healthy super quickly so you can enjoy the happiness of pregnancy! :D

Ruthie, darling, you just do whatever you need to keep you and Lucy and Hersh healthy, safe, and comfortable. Don't you worry about us. We miss you badly, of course, but what's most important is you and Lucy's health right now. You're both in my prayers, and I'm thrilled to hear that her condition is an operable one. That's great news!

KO, you kill me!!! :lol3: "SBD Defcon 1"  :lol3: I'm so glad you like SARK too. She's just fabulous! Inspiration Sandwich is a really good one. So sorry that they don't have them at your library! You might check out www.half.com or www.alibris.com for used copies?

Lisa, I didn't know about you and DH. I'm so sorry! I can imagine it must be very hard right now. I hope, very much, that you continue having lots of wonderful happy discoveries about life on your own and that this experience works out for the best, hon. You're a strong woman!

Cottage, you can find the recipes for Chicken with Gorgonzola-Tomato Salsa and Sauteed Broccoli and Mushrooms by clicking on the links. :) Thanks for what you said...you made me feel a lot better!

Kim, I'm not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV ;) ), but I was losing weight too fast and so I consulted several nutritionists and they agreed that it was fine. I wasn't losing muscle...I just had so much to lose that it came off very quickly at first. Eventually, about 50 or 60 pounds later, it slowed down to the much more normal 1-2 pounds/week. I hope your losses are healthy, too!

LC, good for you on joining TOPS...it's really great to have someone to be accountable with for weigh-ins.

Bunna, it's good to see you! I hope things went well at lunch today. Great work losing weight, hon! Hope things work out well with the buyer and the job search. Perhaps you have some kind of 'pop-up blocker?' The smilies show up in a pop-up window.

Liannie 09-10-2007 04:21 PM

Hey all,

Just a quick shout out before I head to the crazy house.....I mean, work. I think Pacer and KO and I must work in the same place. :)

Sorry to see the weekend gone but glad it's already halfway through Monday because that means 1/5 of the way to the next weekend! I'm glad to hear most everyone had good times this weekend and are ready to rock and roll. And as always, for me, another Monday is another chance to restart my diet. Moving to Phase 2 again this week and hoping to stay there (instead of Phase 999 where you're so skinny to have to eat like a monster). :D

More later,
L
