Alright Nessa! :carrot:
I've given it up too. Wheat is totally overrated. |
WONDERFUL job Nessa! Last time I did SB, Wheat gave me issues too, so this time I know better! Keep up the excellent work!

Way to go Nessa!
Just curious - did you guys have trouble with losing while eating wheat or was it allergies/digestion problems? I'm having trouble with both right now and just wondering. |
YEA NESSA!
When my son was younger, he was allergic to wheat and I learned to cook and bake without it. I actually prefer oat flour to wheat flour now! I had a great cookbook called The Gluten-Free Gourmet or something like that. I don't know how South Beach it is, and it's locked in our storage unit in California so I can't check, but maybe a perusal of the cookbook section of your local book store could give you some ideas if you run out. You sound VERY motivated! I'm so happy for your success! Kara |

i avoid wheat so I can a. breathe and b. stay awake... this does not mean I avoid starches and grains however. I have oatmeal every morning (which does not make me stuffy or sleepy) and i have sweet potatoes or quinoa several times a week as an evening starch/grain. while some folks count carrots and sugar snap peas as starchy veggies I do not... and i eat them every day.... |
Hi Nessa!
I've been thinking about the same thing lately. I get really gassy when I eat a lot of wheat-based products. I used to think it was lactose intolerance because it was usually after pizza or mac/cheese. Then when I got my gallbladder out, I convinced myself it was the fat. But now I'm noticing it was the bready stuff that was the common link. And I'm not even going to get started about the cravings caused by it! I am going to follow you into the WheatFree Zone, even when I get to Phase III. Life will just be so easier without it. My son's girlfriend has MS and is gluten-free because it reduces symptoms. Her only complaint is eating rice noodles instead of spaghetti; otherwise she loves it (and has lost about 20 lbs without even trying). Yeah...wheat sucks! :D |
I read once that most people are at least sensitive- if not allergic- to both dairy and wheat. However, since those are such huge things in our diets, people get used to feeling crappy and just assume that it's something else or that they're getting older!
I've had many friends with kids who were either on the autism spectrum or had behavioral disorders totally spin the behaviors around by cutting out dairy and wheat. I hope it works out well for you! |
CONGRATS NESSA! i think we all need to check our own body and how it works...and modify when necessary. take care, choices
|
Congratulations, Nessa! That rocks! :carrot:

Nessa, in a few posts you had mentioned quinoa, so I decided to give it a try. (the rule in this house is that if we don't like it, the dogs probably will!)...
Well, the dogs didn't get much of it. We all loved it. I had made a pot of black beans a couple of weeks ago and froze a lot of it. We had them yesterday on top of the quinoa and everyone really really liked it! (along with grill chicken/w green onion roll ups and a big salad)...the father's day dinner was a big success! |
