Drinks! ...the grown-up kind

I know we are supposed to limit alcohol intake, but "Patio Season" (in Canada) is coming up, and that means drinks! I have sadly accepted that beer is no longer on the drink list. In the book it says red wine is the best choice, but I was wondering what other alternatives there might be out there and how bad they are or not. Any suggestions/info would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Carey

Vodka is a low-carb choice.

Also, beer like Michelob Ultra is really low carb.

I survive on spritzers when on Phase II. On Phase I, it's soda water and lemon or lime! (fake gin and tonic!)

except it is not about carbs and it's about what it does to your blood sugar.

any of the non-sugar liquiors with sugar free mixers will be better choices than sugared drinks (i.e. rum and diet coke will be better than a whisky sour)

just remember that calories in must be fewer than calories OUT or you will gain weight.

I started drinking vodka and club soda with lime when doing Atkins years ago... and I just kept that as "my drink" because it is refreshing and light. I make sure to get a better vodka made from potato, not sugar cane or grain.

I think wine is a good choice since it's got alot of other benefits, so spritzers is a good idea, like Ruthxxx suggested.

This is probably a sticking point for me also... I like my cocktails! ;) It makes going back on phase I a real challenge for me.
