Not eating enough!

  • I haven't used my fitday account in a very long time. So, this morning I got up early and decided to log in my menu for yesterday. The total came out to less than 1200 cal. I keep a journal logging what I eat, how much I exercise and how I am feeling about my diet that day. So on an average day it seems I am logging less than 1200 cal and about 40 min cycling between 15-18mph at least 4x's a week. I did not realize that my calorie count was so low because I'm eating more than I usually do. I am still on ph 1 until Monday. Is this amount of calories healthy or should I stop exercising? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pohai
  • I had the same issue this week...see my posting below about fit day. I tried to increase snacks and stuff. I also bulked up breakfast and lunch.

On phase 1 I know I would have been over 1200, but several days this week I had less than 1000 cals!!! I had never used fitday and since I have been adding calories.

    Weird huh?

  • Having too few calories can cause your body to react as though it is starving - hording caloeies in case it does not get fed again. Not a good tactic for weight loss!

I would not cut out excercise - it certainly burns calories (which you may not be getting enough of), but it also jsut plain good for you!

If you are low on calories you should find a healthy way to add in some more calories each day - ading a little more protien/veggie at each meal, a serving of nuts, some extra cheese, hummus with a veggie snack, an extra snack at night.

    Good luck with this -

  • Thanks for the help guys.
  • Glad you posted about this and noticed it, too, Browneyed! You definitely need to eat more...the 1200 calorie injunction is for pretty sedentary people. If you're exercising that vigorously and that often, you need more than that. Just add good things, like good fat and lean protein, some dairy, some beans. Okay?
