Eating Schedule

I have a question about eating schedules.
Our schedules here are kind of different. By 2 o'clock my husband and I are both home from work (although I do work from home in the afternoons and evenings), so our main meal of the day is around 2 or 3. I would cook a huge meal every day. Never know if my older two kids are going to drop in with friends..everyone expecting to be fed. In "the old days" I used to bake nearly every afternoon so our "dinner" usually consisted of dessert, or grabbing some leftovers, a sandwich, cereal etc. My youngest son who is in college usually has friends over at night and they have come to expect brownies, cake or some other treats to be on the counter when they come over. (I'm waiting for the grumbling to start soon!)

I am still cooking the "Huge" meal every day at 2 or 3, but now it's only "legal" food. So at the "normal" dinner time in the evening, I'm just not all that hungry. I grabbed a couple of deviled egg halves around 6 last night and then had a fudgesicle/peanut butter/cool whip treat around 7 (gawd, I love those things)

My question is, do I HAVE to eat 3 "meals" everyday or is that schedule ok? I know that in some diets, you have to eat 3 complete meals and with the way we live that's not really an option. I haven't read the SB book yet...I have it on order and it should be here soon.

Hi. The recommendation is to eat three meals and two snacks. The goal is to keep your blood sugar at a stable level. You indicate that eating 3 meals a day is not an option. Are you not eating breakfast and snacks at all in the morning? Eating earlier in the day will really help to get your metabolism running faster and will help prevent overeating at your "huge" meal in the afternoon. Breakfast doesnt have to be a massive affair....how about a quick smoothie, a glass of V8 with a cheese stick, etc.

Rhonda,

I just had a cheese stick and V8 for breakfast...and you're right...it wasn't a massive affair. Sorry, I was eating my last bite of cheese when I read that and it struck me as funny...thanks for the chuckle. [keep in mind this probably only funny to me]

Rhonda is right, it really is important to keep your metabolism up and going all day long. Just be sure to snack and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. I realize that your dinner is sorta a lunch thing, just make sure that you eat a snack in the evening.

[QUOTE=GirlyGirlSebas;1666290]Hi. ... Are you not eating breakfast and snacks at all in the morning? affair....QUOTE]

Oh, yes, I eat breakfast before I go to work in the morning...usually eggs, then I grab a V8 "chaser" before I walk out the door for the drive.
And yep, I do the snacks twice a day. I bring a snack to school with me in the morning and the other is usually around 6 or 7 at night. After eating our main meal of the day at 2 or 3, I really don't feel like another "meal" at 5 or 6..so that's when I have my second snack. For instance, yesterday's 3 o'clock meal consisted of stuffed, grilled chicken breasts, fresh asparagus and a caprese salad...a lot of food. I ate a ton of the asparagus and was still full by the time it was time for another early evening meal..so instead of a meal I had a fudgesicle peanut butter/cool whip treat around 7 or so and an hour or so later I was in bed.

We try to go to bed pretty early since we get up at 4 a.m. so I'm not faced with late night munchies too much.(except on Friday and Saturday nights) I usually eat breakfast around 7 am..so I've been up 3 hours by that time. I can't stomach anything to eat for at least 3 hours after I get up except my coffee and chickory.
