Hello

Hi ladies, I would like to join if you'll have me.

I'm not new to message boards, however I am new to The South Beach Diet. I bought the book the day after I found out i'm prediabetic/insulin resistant. I knew I was, but seeing the proof on paper i'm hoping will be that extra kick in the rear I need to keep motivated. I have hated the way I look for a long time now and its time to get serious.

I'm Jackie, Mom to five wonderful boys ages 17,15,10,4 and a soon to be 2yr old. Married to Bob now for what will be 17yrs in May. I would like to lose around 60lbs, but even 50 would put me where I should be. I was always a slender person who never had to worry about what I ate. I never needed to exercise. Well, my 30's hit and that all changed.. so here I am :)

Welcome, you have taken the first step. Good luck. There is a diabetes support group , they might be helpful to you.

:welcome: to The Beach. South Beach will certainly help you get your blood glucose levels under control and is a very healthy way to lose weight. Please feel free to join us in the daily chat and in the Phase I Threads.

Do you have the book? It will help you understand the theory behind the plan. Take your time reading it and checking out the stickies in our FAQ section before you leap into Phase I.

The Diabetic Support group is good for those who are definitely diabetic but you are pre-D and insulin resistant so hang out in here for a bit.

:welcome2: Halo!

Sounds like you're doing the right thing! Reading the book and getting your house and mind ready for SBD first really sets you up for success. I think you should always read the book anytime you try a new way of eating, but with SBD, it's especially important. Glad you're setting yourself up to succeed and get healthy! :D

oopsmyhalofelloff,
I'm totally impressed. 5 boys 2-17. I've got 3 girls 2-6 and I feel overwhelmed half of the time. This diet will definitely help sort out the insulin-resistant problem (plus any cholesterol problems as well, if you've got them.) Congratulations on taking charge of your health. That's the hardest step, harder, I think, than actually sticking to the diet.

Welcome!

Being diagnosed as prediabetic was what brought me here, too. It seems to be the thing that finally clicked for me in my head and has me more determined to lose weight than I've ever been.

There's a lot of great info to be found here, a wonderful supplement to the book. Good luck - you can do this!
