August Exercise - Get sweaty while keeping your cool!!
Okee dokee, August is here. The first of the month for many is the time they re-evaluate and revamp their exercise programs. Still time to lose some pounds for bikini wearing. Not on my planet, but maybe yours?
|
No thoughts of bikinis here. I think that time has come and gone.
Today I did Turbo Jam Turbo Sculpt (40 mins) and the Twenty Minute workout. I am aiming for 24 days of exercise in August. Come on Sonoma gang .... Let's post some exercise!!!! We can do it!!! |

Shrinking Mama, you didn't answer my question so I'll ask again. "The dvd on the ball.. you mean Suzanne Deason's that you mentioned the other day? So ... how did the workout go? Was it what you remembered?" 24 days of exercise sounds like a good goal.. I think I'll do the same. My goals are: 30 min of rigorous cardio interval training ... mill or whatever 30 min of flex time: cardio or weight training or intensive functional exercise depending upon my mood 30 min yoga or pilates or ball I'll give myself a half point for the first goal (rigorous cardio) and a half point for another goal for up to 1 point a day. Total goal... 24 points for August. I think I can do this. So today? 0.5 point 40 min of strength training on the ball.. upper body Lots of functional exercise moving boxes and furniture and stuff at work. |
I'M BACK! Gosh I missed you all and exercising and all that. I was gone for a week and managed to run 2.5 mi once w/crunches and push ups, 1 aerobics class, 1 day of only crunches and push ups and 1 day of a mile run.
Not horrific for a vacation if you didn't count the eating I did while gone and the fact that my body is used to 6 days of 30-90 min of exercise. I look and feel awful right now and am so freaking excited to get back on track! Tomorrow I run at the gym-at least 3 miles plus some other action. Jayde and Shrinking Mama-looks like you two have been holding down the exercise fort! WTG and keep it up:D |

Whatever "functional" exercise I did at work yesterday, I did at least 5 times that today and I am pooped. Trying to set up my classroom but I have to move furniture from my old to my new.. I know the custodians would be glad to help but they are being pulled in every other direction so I am relying on myself (and help today from my son)... We moved so many chairs and tables and even managed to move a filing cabinet (empty) without a dolly from one room down to the next. I wish I could say I am done but tomorrow will be more of the same as I am in charge of an entire area of curriculum materials that need to be given to teachers. It will take me the entire day of pushing and pulling boxes.. I'm nursing a cluster headache today as well...It started yesterday and I refuse to let it disable me. So I can't take the bouncy bouncy intensity of cardio tonight... Giving myself half a point for the functional exercise. I didn't even do yoga this morning.. which probably would have helped make me feel better... Trying not to complain.. this is just how I am today. |
Batmom, glad you're back! Good job on exercising during vacation. Hope you enjoyed your trip!
Jayde - I have been doing You Can Do Abs with Leslie Sansone. I have the Deason Weightloss dvd but have only done it once. I thought it was a little weird with the voice over. I have been meaning to try it again and then I read something you wrote somewhere else about how much you enjoy it. So, I plan on fitting that in sometime soon. Hope you feel better tomorrow. Today I ran 2.59 miles in 30 minutes and then walked another 15 minutes. Then I did Turbo Jam Abs. This evening I went to the pool and did water exercises for about 35 minutes. I am very tired and ready for bed. The heat is supposed to let up tomorrow. Thank goodness! |
I've been scarce lately. No, that's an understatement! :o I check in nearly every day and read but I have been vegging bigtime. My husband has been home on holiday and we've been doing lots of silly little daytrips, like up to London a few times and to the beach and hiking. I've been a naughty girl but I have maintained! How is that possible? Since the kids have been on school holiday, I have not done any power walking. Partly because it's been so hot, even first thing in the morning and partly (to be truthful) because I just do not feel like it!
I think I burnt myself out. Not the exercise necassarily but just the whole "weight loss lifestyle" thing. I do it with everything I get interested in. If it's decorating the house, then that is all I think about, talk about, read about. If it's gardening, then yeah, it's the same. With weight loss, I totally focused so strictly on it that I just got tired. And then a bit lazy. I needed a break. I need to learn moderation and balance. I put my life in these little boxes and I take them down one at a time. BORRRRRING! So, time to get myself in hand. I have to say, even though I've had a few take-away meals for lunch in London and have had a few too many ice cream cones, my meals have all been very healthy and Sonoma-y. So cooking properly has become second nature to me. That's not a problem any more. I've also got a good grip on my shopping because I know what staples to buy so I can always have a nice meal. I just need to tackle summer-time snacking and getting back into excercise. My husband (who has always been an avid cycler) bought me a bike yesterday! We've also just ordered a trailer for our daughter to attach to the back so I can take her with me. I went out yesterday for the first time and it was so much fun! And so much work! My nether regions are a bit sore today but I can't wait to get back out there. It figures that today would be the first really rainy day we've had in months! So basically, I'm just aiming to start getting more active without being so goal-oriented. I've been treating weight loss and exercise like a job and I am going to try and switch tactics and just concentrate on having fun. So my goals for August are: - knock off the snacking - enjoy cycling around the town with my daughter in tow - drink more water because I do feel like I'm retaining a bit of water because of the heat Glad to be back, ladies. I've missed the support and camaraderie and understanding. Love you all! |
mummy tummy I do the same exact thing. I get really fired up for one thing and am so gung ho for a while. But before you know it something else takes its place. Sounds like you've got a plan for August. Enjoy that bike!

went runing today at the gym and it kicked my a$$! Same plan I was doing before vacation...so it'll take me a bit longer but i'm still back and on track

Oh.. that being said .. today is not one of THOSE days. I worked nonstop at work.. moving moving moving… carrying junk, carrying chairs.. sometimes 6 at a time down the halls. If I see one more box of books I just might lose my mind! But it will come to an end.. not tomorrow… but soon it will. Today’s exercise… I’ll give myself half a point again for the functional exercise.. but nothing for cardio and I didn’t get yoga or anything else in either. I’ve lost quite a bit of weight all of a sudden. Some of it I know is coming off TOM but I’m sure quite a bit of it is this ragged schedule where I am working like a crazy woman and not eating enough. I’m eating good foods (well except Monday’s catered lunch)… just not enough. It is no wonder I suffered yesterday. Though I'm exhausted I am going to try to work yoga in tomorrow morning. I really need the focus. |
cautiously entering the exercise arena ...
Hey everyone!
After 2 months of doing nothing, I got permission from the orthopedic surgeon to start gentle exercises like swimming, biking, and some strength training and stretching. I am really excited; I've missed exercising and missed checking in here regularly. I did for a while, but got sad reading about everyone else exercising when I couldn't do anything. For those who don't know, I got a stress fracture in my left foot. The ortho doc said it's a classic stress fracture, probably caused by overuse; usually a combination of doing too much too soon with repetitive motion. Symptoms don't typically show up until 4+ weeks after the injury, so I guess mine was due to overuse! Diet can also be a contributing factor; luckily I eat a balanced diet so that probably wasn't a factor in my injury. I may have mentioned back in May or June that I was hoping to do a sprint triathalon in October. Well, that won't happen. I am pretty much starting fresh with about 20 minutes a day of exercise. Yep, that's it, but there are 2 main reasons. 1) my foot still hurts and I don't want to delay healing (takes about 3 months or so, and it's been about 2 months), and 2) I haven't done anything for 2 months so I'm a bit out of shape. Will follow this plan through August and, if the foot is pain-free, will slowly increase what I'm doing. Obviously won't be in any kind of shape to do a triathalon in 2 months. :( Glad to see the exercise thread is still going. I will check in and get caught up with reading over the weekend. I also need to revise my goals below; will not get my silver medal by Aug. 31. :( Meanwhile, looking forward to my first bike ride in a long time! :bike2: |
Mummy Tummy and Sherry - Welcome back!! I'm glad you have returned.
Jayde - Do you go back to school soon? It seems to early. I hope you have some more summer break to enjoy. Batmom - Good for you for getting back on track so quickly! Yesterday I pulled out my bike and rode 2 miles. I got it last year but was to uncomfortable on it and only rode once. So it was pretty exciting to be able to ride (70 lbs. lighter) and be comfortable. After that I did my first run outside. I had been a little nervous about venturing out in public and the heat but I ran a mile and although it is different from the treadmill it went well. Today is a rest day and I'll be back at it tomorrow. Have a great weekend! |
hey Sherry-great to have you back. Sounds like you are smart enough to not reinjure yourself. Sorry about the triathalong though. But there'll be other's and you'll be nice and ready!
|
We went on an 8 mile bike ride today! I made it halfway without stopping but on the way back, the wind was in our face so it was tougher going. I need to go try and find out how many calories that is, hehe.

Hello gang,
I didn't do so hot over the weekend with eating or exercise. I'm still caught up in the eating crappy/feeling crappy cycle. So...I thought I would jump on here and recommit. I am about to put the kids down for rest time and then do the Turbo Jam Twenty Minute workout and Abs workout. I also have a walk scheduled for tonight with a friend. I'll make big salads for dinner and up my water. There, I feel better already. Off I go! |
