Ah, the family...

  • Going for a quick trip to the folks' tomorrow. I'll be able to do breakfast at home and pack a lunch for the road. So, just dinner and breakfast Thursday at Potato World. The folks, while supportive of my attempts to lose weight, don't buy into my "new fangled" ideas on potatoes, white bread and the like, so I'm going to try taking some oatmeal (already made, so I can use the "it was going to go to waste" line, works wonders with Ma) and some whole wheat crackers. I think I can make due otherwise, and even if I pick a few less-than-perfect choices, I still have my newfound portion control to get me through.
  • good luck!

I'm going to visit my parents next weekend and can always count on there not being a lot of good choices around. I think I can get oatmeal for breakfast (it's one of my mom's favorites), but my dad just loves to "fix treats"
  • Wow, not only am I proud of me, I'm so proud of Mom and Dad! No potatoes anywhere, Dad is now in love with Sarah Lee Whole Grain White Bread, and they were thrilled to share the grapefruit and oranges their pals brought back from Florida last week. My only slip was homemade egg custard, but Mom had it in single serve, half cup parfait dishes, so much easier to resist the urge to overindulge. An on a YIPPEE Sonoma item, after 2 weeks of little or no processed sugar, a half cup, while super yummy, was plenty satisfying.
