dining out tips

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to the thread. I am getting ready to start wave 2. Anyway, at work occasionally I like to go to lunch with my coworkers. I haven't since starting this diet two weeks ago. I really want to join them, but want to make sure I don't blow this. I know the book has suggestions but I was wanting some real life advice too. Thanks!:)

Well let's see:

Mexican food - Chicken fajitas would be good.. but see if they have whole wheat torts.. corn would be another sub if no whole wheat. beans are your friend. Grilled fish with a tropical salsa is wonderful. Grilled veggies are good too. I've had a dish called calabacitas that is really good.. zucchini, tomaotoes, mexican chese, corn.. sometimes black beans. I make it at home too, but mine is healthier.

Italian - tough since its unlikely you'll find ww pasta but one good dish i can think of is chicken marsala.. veggies wine and chicken. Good stuff.

That's what I can think of at the moment. I'll add more later.. but just think, whole grains, lean meats and lots of veggies!

I went online to a few of the places that I would eat out if I had to to look at nutritional info. I was able to find something at subway, wendys and panda express. I know it is processed, but atleast it helps to know what the best things are at the place you would go to.
I tend to eat chinese a lot because it has a lot of lower fat stuff. Just dont eat the rice or get anything breaded and sweet. I get chicken with mushrooms and beef with broccoli.
subway you can get wheat bread with turkey low fat or no mayo. You just ahve to get used to the diet. Publix is a great place for sandwiches because they will make it with boarshead meat. I will bring a wrap from home if I know Im going to be out over lunch and it helps a lot. It keeps me off of the processed foods which are a no no, but in reality we sometimes have to eat fast food. Good luck.

The Olive Garden is the first thing that comes to mind. You can order pasta dishes and substitute whole wheat linguinie. I did this over the weekend and it was so good! Just take half home with you. I'm thinking the minestrone soup would also be a good choice. Lots of beans and very yummy.

And I believe with any restaurants like TGIFridays or Applebees you can get steamed veggies in place of fries or baked potato. Any American style restaurant will have tons of grilled meat/fish choices. They'll usually cater to your dietary needs if you just ask.

Applebee's has a section of Weight Watchers menu items, and the ones that are suitable for the WW Core plan are also pretty much Sonoma-friendly. You can sub extra veggies for the rice pilaf, too.

Thank you everyone for your tips! They will definitely come in handy since I am getting ready to go on Vacation to San Francisco! Sometimes vacations and diets can get tricky but I am determined to stick to this.
