Week 2/4/07 - Thread for the week

Right before leaving this board last time, we were making one "food" thread for the week. It makes it easier than having one thread w/a ton of posts in it, and it goes on for weeks on end....

Anyway, we can post our menu's and our thoughts for the week here. That's NOT to say, you shouldn't start a new thread. Heck, start all the treads you want to get the board going. I just thought this way we could "find" each other easier.

I see there are about four of us trying this diet out again...yeah!

I'll post my menu tonight, as I reflex on how I did today. As for now, I just had lunch and I'm still hungry... for dessert that it is.

I'll check back later... hope everyone else is doing well.

mirandall 02-05-2007 06:52 PM

First, let me say that I think I had too many grains today. Oh well.

Here's my list:

Breakfast: Coffee, Steel Cut Oats, Splenda, Cinnamon, Toasted Almonds, and milk.

Lunch: Lentil and Brown Rice Soup from cookbook, half whole wheat pita

Dinner: Was supposed to be Easy Balsamic Chicken with Roasted Green Beans. Then discovered the chicken needed to marinate. So, that will be tomorrow. Instead, we'll have leftover Black Bean Soup with a spinach and romaine salad on the side (probably tomatoes, peppers, and a touch of feta cheese with it...oh, and a vinagrette of some sorts).

Snacks: homemade pita chips with some store bought hummus (probably too much hummus, though)

snowbunny2 02-05-2007 09:45 PM

Hey guys, great idea to start this thread.
My day went okay, but I had to eat dinner early (I had a 3-hr class from 6-9) so had to add in a little snack after class. Here it was:

B- Coffee with splenda, 1 cup Kashi cereal with 1 cup milk

L- Salad with tofu, chick peas and viniagrette, herb tea

D- Tofu, broccoli, onion and pepper stir-fry made with 1 tsp. olive oil, 1 tbsp. soy sauce and garlic
1/2 cup brown rice

S- 1/4 cup cottage cheese and 11 almonds

I'm planning on having another cup of tea before bed. Also, I have only drank 6 glasses of water so I have to step it up tomorrow, but overall it was a good first day. I was hungry after lunch, but I stuck it out. 1 down, 9 to go!

luvthelighthouse 02-06-2007 10:18 AM

Sorry I didn't get back on last night... so here is how my yesterday went...

B: Bran Flakes w/skim milk

T: Tuna salad, wrapped in Romaine (eat twice the amount of tuna I should have)

S: 5 baked Doritos (Yes, I have sinned)

D: Whole grain spaghetti w/spinach, broccoli and shrimp. I posted a recipe for this a long time ago in the recipe thread. It's a take off of Shrimp Portifino... yum, I love it!

S: A handful of peanuts, one bite of cantaloupe

Over all, I don't feel too badly about my day. I could have been stricter on portions, and done w/out the Doritos, but overall, not bad.

mirandall 02-07-2007 06:15 AM

Yesterday

B: Kashi Go Lean, Milk, Splenda, Cofee

L: Black Bean Chicken Wrap

D: Easy Balsamic Chicken with Roasted Green Beans

Snacks: 2 Doritos (yes, just 2...I wanted to taste it), a bite of my kids cookie (once again...just a taste), Homemade Pita Chips and Hummus, and I finished my son's turkey meatball (that's legit, right?)

I should never have had the Doritos, because that gave me an excuse to have the other stuff, "just to taste". I bet I will see something on the scale today. :(

luvthelighthouse 02-07-2007 10:32 AM

Here's my yesterday:

B: Kashi Go Lean cereal

S: Hot Chocolate

L: Cup ‘O Soup (mainly broth), small plate of pineapple and strawberries, two hands full of peanuts

D: Southwest Omelet w/two pieces who grain toast

I know lunch wasn’t really Wave 1 appropriate, but I was “snowed in” so to speak. The weather was terrible, and I was stuck in the office, so I had to take what was available. Thankfully, someone had brought in a fruit tray, otherwise I might have turned to candy.

Overall, I don’t think I did too badly, but boy was I hungry.

snowbunny2 02-07-2007 01:28 PM

Here's my yesterday:

B: Coffee, Splenda, Kashi cereal and skim milk

S: String cheese

L: Salad with kidney beans, feta and light italian dressing

S: String cheese, 11 raw almonds

D: Tofu veggie stir-fry (used mushrooms, onions, garlic, cauliflower and brocolli) w/ soy sauce and 1 tsp. olive oil
1/2 cup brown rice

Good day... I had a lot of cheese, but it was all Wave 1-approved cheese.
I am finding I am really hungry after lunch and in the afternoon, so I try to stick with almonds and cottage cheese or string cheese, but sorry, tier 1 veggies just won't do it!

Snowbug 02-07-2007 08:02 PM

Can anyone join the menu thing?

If so, today I had:

Breakfast: Steel cut oats, 1/2 c non-fat milk, 1 tsp toasted walnuts (sprinkled on oats), 4 boysenberries.

Lunch: Express wrap (my version... i had a piece of turkey lunchmeat and some arugula left... a few pieces of green onion and green pepper, cranberry mustard and 3 sliced mushrooms)

Snack: Couple of radishes, since husband won't be him til somewhat late.

Dinner: Large salad, maybe 3 0z turkey breast, piece of bread, fruit if I must (ugh)

luvthelighthouse 02-07-2007 11:40 PM

I'm not actually following the "menu's" in the book, and I'm trying to just make smarter Sonoma choices, but dang, it's not as easy as I remember from last time.

Today's menu:

B: Go Lean cereal (always w/skim milk)

S: Hot Chocolate

L: Whole grain pita stuffed w/lettuce, tomato and 1 tbls hummus

S: Handful of peanuts

D: Pork chop with mushrooms and green beans

S: Popcorn and two hand's full of peanuts

I know I could be eating more real food, and less snacks, but I can't seem to find my grove. I should be making bigger veggie portions, but I really am not a fan of veggies that aren't bathed in butter. :o

I know Hot Chocolate is such a no-no... but I have a co-worker who brings me one almost every day... and I'm too weak to say no, since I love them so much!

mirandall 02-08-2007 07:25 AM

Yesterday:

B: 2 egg omlet wth sauteed mushrooms and garlic (in ~1tsp oil) topped with a sprinkling of blue cheese, whole grain toast, coffee

L: Wrap w/ Grilled shrimp, black bean paste (that I made from the book), lots of lettuce, and a little salsa

D: Sicilian Tuna (cookbook), spinach and romaine salad with grape tomatoes and balsamic vinagrette

S: Light cheese stick, 11 almonds, a few carrots with hummus

snowbunny2 02-08-2007 05:10 PM

Snowbug, the more people the better!
HEre's what I had yesterday:

B: coffee, Kashi with skim milk

L: steamed broccoli and asparagus with kidney beans and parmesan cheese

S: 11 almonds, nonfat cottage cheese, 2 celery stalks with 1 tbsp. peanut butter, string cheese, coffee

D: Tofu veggie stir-fry with soy sauce in 1 tsp. olive oil
1/2 cup brown rice (I know I've had this every day, but it's just so good and satisfying. I'm switching it up tonight!!!)

So yeah I had a lot of snacks... I was starving! I tried to make the healthiest options I could, and did pretty good. Luvthelighthouse, your menu looks good! Maybe you could even have more protein at lunch to keep you full.

sf40 02-08-2007 07:50 PM

joining in, too

Need the accountability and like the support!

Yesterday (Wednesday)

Breakfast: Shredded wheat with 2% milk. I love this particular brand but am noticing that I get hungry, so think I need more protein at breakfast than just the milk (may mix in some protein powder next time).

Snack: 8 oz plain non-fat yogurt.

Lunch: Whole wheat pita with 1 T hummus, 3 oz turkey breast, a handful of mixed greens, 1 sliced tomato, and 1 T feta cheese.

Snacks: Sliced red bell pepper, cut carrots.

Dinner: Won't say because it wasn't even close to Sonoma.

luvthelighthouse 02-08-2007 11:27 PM

Sherry, you don't have to hind what you ate for dinner, we all slip up. I like the weekly food thread, because I think it helps to write down what we are eating. Not so we can judge, but so we can see why we are or are not losing weight. Oh, and as for breakfast, I found if I eat Post Bran Flakes w/a pinch of Kashi Go Lean mixed in, it makes me feel full 'til lunch. Here's my day...

B: Go Lean cereal w/skim milk

S: Hot Chocolate

L: Chicken breast, green beans and small salad

D: Rest of my lunch salad and chicken stuffed in a WG tortilla

S: Popcorn and 3 dark chocolate Dove hearts

I'm really hungry and have been since about an hour after dinner... but mainly I just want to eat junk food. I'm trying to be good, but dang it's hard!

mirandall 02-09-2007 07:18 AM

Yesterday:

Breakfast: Kashi Go Lean, Milk, Toast, coffee

Lunch: Salad w/ grilled shrimp, radishes, grape tomatoes and balsamic vinagrette; 1/2 c grapes

Dinner: Black Bean Soup w/ a little sour cream and cilantro, whole grain bread, wine

Snacks: celery with pb, 10 peanuts, and about half of my son's grilled cheese (not a great idea, but it was sooooo good!)

Something that has stuck with me from WW is when you are out of points, go to bed. It was a joke, of course, but I have found that if I brush my teeth, I kind of forget about eating. I mean, I don't want to have to brush again! If you've got tea in the house, you might try sipping on that in the evenings (probably decaf).

Snowbug 02-09-2007 11:06 AM

Thursday

Breakfast: 1/2 of: (split with husband) whole wheat pita with 2 white/1 egg scramble.. with tomato, green onion & 1 tb soy mozarella

Lunch: 1/2 sorta-expresswrap on spelt tortilla. (3oz turkey, handful of arugula, 2 mushrooms & 4 strips of green pepper. Cranberry mustard)

Snack: 4 Spanish almonds

Dinner: Large green salad (no dressing), 2 oz halibut, 1/2 cup Kale & Onions, about a 2x2" piece of whole grain bread, red wine.

luvthelighthouse 02-09-2007 11:21 PM

Ok, here's today's menu

B: Go Lean cereal

S: Hot Chocolate

L: Chicken sandwich w/broccoli

D: Pizza and garlic bread

S: 2 dark chocolate Dove hearts

Ok, so you'll notice that I have had devilish treats every day during Wave 1... so that pretty much negates Wave1. :o In any case, I still feel overall that I'm doing well. If I weren't trying to lose weight, there'd be a lot more bread, pasta and sweets in my menu.

I know that pizza and garlic bread were way off plan, but I'm okay w/it. I had a choice to make, and I decided I wanted it. Friday is always pizza night, and I enjoy it w/my family. I don't think one bad meal is going to be a huge set back.

mirandall 02-10-2007 07:22 AM

Hi all! My Friday was a bit (a lot) off. My 18 month old son had a stomach virus and so my eating was hit or miss.

B: Kashi w/ milk, half a piece of toast (I was full! Guess my stomach is getting a little smaller), coffee

L: Handful of Doritos, half of a pita, romaine, spinach, deli ham (no clue how much, but really, not much), sprinkling of feta, pita chips, hummus (this was snack and lunch, since it was at 3:00)

D: Flame Kabob out- grilled chicken and kubideh (beef), rice (I'm sure not brown) a few bites of chickpeas, a few bites of salad, and half of the bread

Oh, and 2 cookies. I guess it wasn't terrible, but it was definitely not on plan. Today will be better!!!

sf40 02-10-2007 10:11 AM

luvthelighthouse, thanx for the encouragement. The last 2 days have been more slip-ups than not ... sigh. Well, here goes.

Thursday
B: shredded wheat cereal with 2% milk
L: wrap with grilled chicken and vegetables; a bit of fresh fruit (this was a minor victory for me. We went out and I usually get the really good french fries at this particular restaurant but requested fruit instead)
S: birthday cake and ice cream for February birthdays at work
D: Tapas and Sangria. The tapas we selected were surprisingly Sonoma-friendly (grilled lean meats and veggies), except for the two small pieces of fried calamari that I ate. The Sangria was a slip-up, but it is a wine drink and I had only one glass ...

Friday
B: 2 cooked eggs
S: strawberries and a slice of blueberry muffin-bread at work
S: a couple of squares of dark chocolate
L: whole-wheat pita stuffed with 1T hummus, 3 oz turkey breast, mixed greens, sliced tomato, and 1T feta cheese
S: more cake and ice cream at work -- one of the owners turned 40 yesterday and his sister sent a cake to work
S: laughing cow light cheese wheel and whole grain crackers
D: scrambled eggs and vegetables

I see a pattern here ... if food is readily available, I eat it. I did well on Sonoma last year because I wasn't working and I controlled the food in our house. But my workplace has a constant supply of chocolate, pastries, and other stuff I shouldn't eat so much of, plus they (um, we) like to go out to eat a lot. I need to learn self-control and/or really watch my portions.

snowbunny2 02-10-2007 11:18 AM

Hey guys, I've been in the same boat... not so good the last two days (well actually Thursday was just one little slip-up) but yesterday I kind of went crazy. I'm not letting it bother me, I'm just getting back on track today. And Sherry, it looks like overall you were making good choices... I can't resist cake either... I would literally start wearing a superwoman costume around if I did!

Thursday:
B: Kashi with skim milk, coffee

S: A couple bites of cottage cheese

L: Whole wheat wrap with beans, parmesan cheese, salsa, veggies and mustard

S: String cheese, 11 almonds, a couple strips of yellow pepper

D: Easy Balsamic Chicken, Steamed brussels sprouts and cauliflower

S: A few homemade cookies (at a friends, just couldn't resist!)

Friday:
B: Kashi with skim milk, coffee

L: Minestrone soup, marinated tofu

S: cereal with milk, 1 slice bread with peanut butter, string cheese and almonds (I literally got starving and just couldn't stop eating!)

S: Chocolates and a rice krispie treat (Here we go, off the deep end)

D: Out to dinner with friends, here goes....
Creamy onion soup
Shared a salad with edamame, pineapple and macademia nuts
Shared with friends: Black bean potstickers, peanut noodles, Brie and caramelized onion quesadilla, thai spring roll

Okay, so as you can see I threw caution to the wind today. I was slightly embarrassed to post this, but I need to be held accountable for my actions. I think I'm just going to need to stick to eating meals at home, because I tend to just eat like the people around me when I'm out. I too was just eating at home when I tried Sonoma in September, but I'm just going to stick with it, and if I lose weight a little more slowly, then so be it!

snowbunny2 02-10-2007 08:51 PM

Me again! I'm happy to report that I got back on track today... here goes:

B: Coffee, Kashi with skim

L: Whole wheat wrap with hummus (1T), salsa, feta cheese and veggies

S: 11 almonds, string cheese

D: Edamame (about 1/2 cup), Sauteed scallops and salad with avocado, parmesan cheese and light Italian dressing

Hope everyone's weekend is going well.

sf40 02-10-2007 09:37 PM

snowbunny2, glad to see you got back on track today! I think you have the right attitude -- don't beat yourself up over what's done, but try to improve for the future.

I've had a headache all day, the aftermath of a horrible migraine yesterday and last night, so I was not so good about eating today. Going hungry for too long triggers those things and I didn't want to have another one.

B: some whole grain cereal with 1% milk
S: sourdough toast with butter (oops)
L: 1 slice of ZPizza California pizza and mixed green salad with a bit of balsamic vinaigrette. This is actually "health-conscious" pizza -- you can get whole wheat crust, the tomato sauce is made from organic ingredients, they use very little cheese, and this particular pizza was covered with yummy vegetables and just a bit of mozzarella cheese. I consider this a Sonoma-friendly meal.
D: grilled chicken, grilled vegetables, and mushrooms sauteed in a bit of olive oil.

I will be having a snack later, hopefully veggies so I can say that the toast and butter was my only real screw-up.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

luvthelighthouse 02-10-2007 11:47 PM

It's funny, we all seem to be in the same boat. Trying to make better choices, but not freaking out when we slip up. We want to lose weight, but if we don't drop 10 lbs in a week, we are okay w/it. We seem to be willing to let the weight come off when it will. That said, he's my day:

B: Go Lean w/skim

S: Hot chocolate

L: Veggie omlet w/WG tortilla

S: 2 dark chocolate Dove hearts

D: Beef and mushroom kaboobs (from the book) and WG rice

S: Popcorn

I really am not a fan of brown rice, so I've been buying Rice a Roni WG Spanish rice. It seems to be Sonoma friendly. I used it last time I did Sonoma too. It's really good and tasty! :)
