Other college students out there on LAWL??

  • I was just wondering if anyone else is in college and doing LAWL. I thought that living in a dorm room and mainly having to eat cafeteria food was going to be a challenge for me, but our caf has a salad bar and a fresh sandwich station. I have only been on lawl for 2 weeks and have already lost almost 7 lbs!! If anyone has any tips on how I can spice up my usual choices (1/2 of a turkey sandwich, veggies, and grilled chicken salads) I would appreciate it greatlly!
  • Hey, I am also a college student, I'm starting fresh with my diet and new exercise routine next semester, but I'm trying to figure out new ways of spicing up cafeteria food..even the vegetables aren't fresh, except in the salad bar..but I also don't know what kind of options I have when it comes to changing up what to eat...salads seem like my only choice. =( Anything you find out-let me know!
  • I'm not in college, but if you guys have mini refrigerators and microwaves, you can steam fresh or frozen bagged veggies in the microwave. Just put in a bowl and cover halfway with a lid and top with Mrs. Dash and cook. Not the most convenient, but it will work.
  • I'm not currently in college, but I am a perpetual student!!!!! No, seriously, I keep trying to finish my degree, and then I end up pregnant. Darn that DH!!!

All kidding aside, I can totally see how it would be difficult to eat at school. Do they have fresh fruit? It is hard now when it seems like NOTHING is in season. I spent $24 on apples yesterday. I am picky about my apples, but c'mon.......$24. You may have to try to do a bit of grocery shopping on your own, for non perishables.

I would think it might get boring........using the same old salad bar and staples at school, but, just so you know.....it gets like that sometimes for us non students too. A few of us eat the same thing for breakfast and/or lunch everyday. LAWL will tell you not to do that, but I really think as long as you are OP, and not stalling, I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Whatever you do.......don't quit. Someone out here on 3FC will come up with some brilliant ideas for you. They always do Good luck!!!
  • I'd suggest buting some tuna kits...and some not from concentrated juice, these items keep easily. One of my fav. things to eat is lettuce, diced apple and a can of tuna mixed w/ ff mayo. I also like it with grapes! Also, fruit w/ yogurt is great for breakfast or snack.
  • tigerpaw-I'm also not a college student-but on the Bento days at the cafeteria at work-I get the chicken and veggie stir fry without rice. Maybe that kinda thing would work for you. Also-veggie burgers w/o the bun or 1/2 a bun are good.
  • Or you could bring your own 4" whole wheat pita in your bag to use with the veggie burger
  • Thanks for the ideas. I will definitely try some of the steamed vegetables. I have pampered chef steamer!
  • hi
I just spent 5 days with a friend that is in college. I was very nervous about going but I did very well alost 4.4 pound in a week.

I mostly did Salads from the salad bar. I went to grocery store and got yogurt, carrots, applesauce, grapes, apples, tuna, wheat thins. I made a variety of things but still stuck to my plan. I hope that kinda helps.
  • that's mostly what I've been doing, since they aren't that expensive and I can get some things from the cafeteria. Thanks!!!
  • I am new to this forum... I am a college student, mother and work full-time. I understand the challenges of no time.

I get the frozen meals that count as starch and 1 protien, when they are on sale you can get them for about $1.25 each. I carry it in my backpack in a side pocket with a "freezer pack". I pop it in the microwave, add a salad from the salad bar and great lunch, low price. I also carry around celery and carrots for the study munchies.

My breakfast usually consists of a Skim Cafe Aulet from the campus coffee shop, a carton of OJ (you can get a 6 pack for about $3) and a LA LITE bar... That holds me through to lunch.

I often get home late and then I eat steamed veges and grilled fish on the George Foreman.
