Hi all. I am Tracey, 35, and need to lose 30lbs (again--lol). Anyway, joined LA Weightloss on friday, and hated the "sales pitch" I got today when I went back. The saleswoman, not counselor, was rude and very uneducated. I asked her that if I chose to not eat the "optional" LA lites bars what could I eat instead?? Simple question, right?? Well, she got flustered and said that noone had ever asked that question before! Anyway, I got no answers and it was assumed that I would purchase the bars next visit--haha, I'm not! I don't believe I signed a contract on friday as the woman who signed me up was basically only interested in getting my $. Today another woman, who did not introduce herself to me when she brought me back, complained the entire time I was with her that the other did not fill out any of my paperwork!! Anyway, does anoone know how I can quit?? Just also found a site on here that said that LAWL was fined $100,000 for leading their customers on!!!!!!!! It's true, they weigh you, you get embarrased and disgusted and hand over your credit card without being shown the fine print!! Help!!
hey welcome !
check out the LAWL forums here. i too started LAWL but quit going b/c the staff seemed very uninformed and weren't really much help, and p.s. i never bought the lite bars.
If you really want to quit-there should be a clause in your contract that specifies how much time you have to quit the contract with no penalty. Alternatively-you can call corporate's 1-800 line and ask them. I don't know the number offhand-try the website-laweightloss.com.
I would encourage you to stick it out-the diet does work. You don't have to buy the bars-there are a lot of women here who don't eat them. You just get moved up a plan and eat all real food. Don't let the sales pitch or counselors get you down. We've all been there. Remember-they work for you and they are trying to get a commission on products.
Read some threads here and check out the weight trackers. It's working for us. We're here to encourage-not convince you to quit
Tracey- So sorry you have had a bad experience. Not all centers are like this. Unfortunately they are paid on commission, and the newer "counselors" that have never done the program are trained to sell. At my center, all but one counselor is or has been on LA, so they are knowledgeable. A top notch center!!
The program DOES work and NO you do not need the bars or any of the other supplements and products to make it work. Several ladies here do the program on their own, that could be an option for you along with the LA forum here. We'd love to have you.
If I were you, I would make an appointment with the manager and let them know how you feel about how you have been treated. See if they are willing to make it right. If the manager won't work with you and try to set things right, then maybe that center isn't going to care about you. Is there another center close by that you could possibly go to?
Good luck with whatever you choose.
to the forum! I am sorry you had such a poor experience. You can do the program without lites and they will give you a different program. Some people simply do not like the lites or it does not agree with them. I agree, speak with the manager regarding your treatment. The program does work, so give it another go.
I just joined a bit less than a week ago as well and they also tried to do the "sell" on me. I simply told them I was not using the bars and I gave them my reasons..first I am not asweets eater so I was forcing myself to eat something that I wouldn't normally have anyway. Secondly...they upset my stomach a bit weach of the three times I ate them. Maybe its the soy I don't know. I gave them no option but to put me on a plan with food only. I use no lits, supplements or vitamins. I have the samples of the snacks at home but I have not tried them yet and not sure I even will. If you stand your ground they will comply.
You are not alone in feeling overwhelmed. I think most of us felt that way the first week. The good news is that it gets better after your head stops spinning. Slow things down a little, remember ... This is your life ... not the counselors. If you have questions or concerns that are not being answered, ask to see someone else.
I do think that you have a clause that says you can get out if you choose to, call 1-800-331-4035. I will say that the program does work if you follow it, lites or no lites.
If you look in the LA newbies thread, there are some alternate bars out there to substitute for the lites. There are also a lot of women here that do a food only plan, so they do exist.
I don't believe I signed a contract on friday as the woman who signed me up was basically only interested in getting my $. Today another woman, who did not introduce herself to me when she brought me back, complained the entire time I was with her that the other did not fill out any of my paperwork!!
Sorry you already have a bad taste in your mouth about the LAWL centers. They are not all like that. My COD has some really good counselors and some that just annoy the heck out of me. If you cannot get out of your contract (I guess only YOU can figure out if you signed one??), I suggest not only talking to the manager of the Center, but getting a schedule of the various counselors and making it a point to meet with each and every counselor they have available. Then, if you really click with one, when you go for your appointments, specifically put that counselors name next to the COD's sign in sheet (of course, I'm assuming your COD is like mine and has a sign in sheet). You will avoid a lot of frustration and you'll do much better in the long run.
LAWL is a healthy program; it's a smart balance of real food. But like any program, you have got to be motivated and want it to work. If your mindset is already negative toward your COD and/or toward LAWL, I don't know that this will work for you. Let us know what happens. and Good Luck.
30.........I have been on LAWL for 1 week, 1 day. I felt tricked when I left. I totally agree with you. I had my personal success appt. on Wed........and that is the day they had me sign the contract, and like you, I paid on my very first appt.. I don't know if it is standard procedure or not. I asked the manager (that is who my initial appt was with), if I decided to join, and then changed my mind, if I had the standard 3 days to get out of my contract. I am originally from WI, and there, at least, you have three days to get out of any contract. She told me that yes, I could get out.......but that $149.00 was non-refundable. She did not specify how long I had to act on this, so I assumed it was at any time. I was mostly upset about the lites and supplements, and their insisting that I needed them. After doing my homework (I too saw the lawsuit info) and talking to these [B]WONDERFUL[B] ladies, I decided to go ahead with the program. I am really glad I did......and once my COD realized that I was not going to purchase supplements and a large quantity of lites......they chilled. I was really nervous to go to my PSV, but it ended up turning out very well. You will have to let us know what you decide and how it all works out. Best of luck, whichever way you decide
Wow, I didn't realize that the counselors get commision off of product sales! I just started LAWL last week and going on my second. Although I liked the free samples of the lites and it did help some with my sweet cravings, I chose not to do the lites. My counselor made it seem like I was going to have a REALLY hard time succeeding without them. Now, I almost feel guilty about not getting some. But I just want to try the program without them for a while. She moved me from the purple plan to some adjusted red plan....I guess they didn't have the right diary/menu plan so she gave me the red plan but crossed out the lites, one fruit, one starch and one dairy.
If I wanted to substitute the lites for luna bars, what are the correct exchanges?
Maailie - If you don't do lites, you get moved to the next plan. Red comes after purple, so you got the right plan. She crossed out the lites because they don't have a separate plan book for no lites. If you do the lites, you move down to purple. You can always start with lites and drop them, or add lites later, but you can't have a day with lites and then a day without. You need to choose one plan and go with it.
That being said, I do the lites because I enjoy the taste, and they are a nice treat. But there are plenty of girls on the board who don't do them and who have had great success.
