Hello All! I am new here!

  • Hello everyone! I just registered and am ready to find a way to loose this weight!

I am a single work at home mom to 2 kids. A 5 and 2 yr old. My divorce was final March 15, only about a week ago. It's been a trail for me emotional and mentally, but for the most part I can put it all behind me now.
I ate emotionally for almost 3 yrs now and of course gained about 100lbs over my normal weight for me.
Time to get moving and work towards a new me!

I know I don't do calorie counting well, have little extra money each month to invest into anything, have a hard time measuring out stuff, and I love lots of different foods.

Is there something that I can look into that will also adjust well with picky eaters? My kids are not too much into "grown up food". I need something that I can compromise with both the kids and I.

I look forward to getting to know everyone and growing skinny!
  • Hi Classylady, welcome...

I don't count calories or bother with much "dieting" stuff... I think a little bit of exercise equipment (clothing) good food, and lots of water should be the best start.. the simpler for me .. the better..

You must be so busy with such little ones.. take time and effort to care for yourself as well.. easier said than done.. I know..
  • Welcome, ClassyLady,

If you don't do well with calorie counting and weighing things out, it might be good to substitute your own lunch and/or supper with something like a Lean Cuisine/Smart Ones/Healthy Choice meal. You can always add a salad with low fat or nonfat dressing to that, and still keep the meal between 300 and 400 calories. Also, it's easy.

Be sure to take a daily multivitamin, too. And drink lots of water.

The main thing is to plan what you're going to do and stick to it. You can work in your kids foods around your plan, but it is going to take some attention.

Good for you for starting a new trend! I wish you the best!

    Jay
  • Hello ClassyLady and welcome!

Believe me you can do it without counting calories, etc., but just eating healthfully and getting in the exercise! That is my method as I don't personally think "diets" are the way (for me that is).

I'm sure it is harder with kids but it also might be a good time to start getting them to eat better too... perhaps if you get creative they will even like it!! Have you done much crockpot cooking? I hadn't done it for ages but have just started up again and it is a great way to get in some tasty recipes and have stuff prepared ahead in the freezer. I cook meat dishes AND huge pots of mixed veggies. By planning ahead you might even be able to prepare some special dishes you know THEY will like, and others for you... then you can just pop out the frozen dinners for them and yourself as well and doesn't have to even be the same thing! Just a thought.

Anyway so glad you are here!!

  • Hello and welcome classylady, I am pretty new too I have been here for about two weeks. I would say up your intake of water and try and add more fruit and veggies.

I am from N. central fl. what part are you from.
  • There are some great online tools however that make calorie counting SO MUCH easier then it use to be, one that is free is:

    www.fitday.com

you might give it a try. Also there is a bunch of websites on how to walk away the pounds, put those cute kidlets in the stroller and get moving maybe walk to the park where they can play.

There is LOTS of ways to lose it healthy and safe without spending a ton of money. Just keep asking - there is a great wealth of information with these folks here.

Today just try to drink more water and take a multivitamin ... you will need it for chasing those kids. Take little steps and just do what you can, don't get too worried about the big picture right now. Also take some time for a hot bath or something TLC for you - going through a divorce is like a boxing ring. This I know too well.

Keep your chin up - you CAN DO THIS.
  • welcome classy lady,

  • I am pretty new to this site also. I have 2 children at home that don't care much for my low-carb meals. I just add some potatoes or mac-n-cheese for them and that seems to suit them fine. They burned out on salad after a month or 2. lol. This room is great and you will get a lot of support.
  • Welcome Classylady and fellow Floridian,

I am pretty new here too, just on board a week or two but have been committed to loosing my weight since January. As someone else suggested I thnk that lean cuisines and its cousin brands are a life saver to me, I eat them all the time for lunch ... and if your not a big breakfast person as I am not..I drink a slim fast shake the chocolate ones are good and I notice that they fill me up and are relativly cheap at walmart etc. Not to worry though you will find your own path that suits you. Welcome and we are always here for support. Dont forget to excercise...good luck with all the new changes in your life
  • ClassyLady!

One more thing you can easily incorporate into your life right now... when you take the kids to the playground, play with them! I used to get such a workout when my DS was little. Running around with him, lifting him up to the top of the climbing structures, pushing him on the swings.

I even went through the tunnels and down the slides! Wheeeee!

It was a free workout and I was amazed at how many moms bypassed it by sitting on the benches, gabbing at one another. It bugged me that they weren't even watching their kids, much less interacting with them! I played with their kids, too!

I maintained during that time period, even though I wasn't at all diligent about healthy eating.

Of course, now that he's a teen, our playground days are long over and the weight has crept up on me ((sigh)). Oh well, I'm working on it now .

Good luck to you! I know you'll do well. You have two really good reasons to!
