need to vent

  • This is spring break for my kids..( Been hard to diet but I am doing it)

Tonight my sons and friends built a fire and just sat around it .
When almost everyone had left a car pulled and and a man that was drunk got out and wanted to join the party. He asked if they wanted a beer.
Keep in mind this is 14,15 and 16 year olds.
The kicker in this is. The man is a police office in our town. He was not driving. A woman was. This is our D A R E office ( he teaches the middle school kids about drug use)
Oh we live in a dry county also. You have to drive 30 minutes to even buy the stuff.
This office told these boys that if they were not drinking they should be!
    I AM SO MAD !
We live in a very small town. This just makes me so sad and mad all at the same time.

    Thanks for the ear..
    Sorry for the off topic!
  • Report him. Report him to the Police Department and to the schools. You owe it to your kids and to all the kids in your town. This fellow should not be having contact with kids and should definitely not be teaching anything, much less DARE stuff.

    How did the kids respond?
  • The boys all said NO... The office had to use the restroom behind a (TREE)!
The person that was driving got him back into the car and told the boys that they were good for not taking him up on the beer.
The Boys called us on their cell phones just as he was leaving.
They were really in shock. We live in a town of less than 3000.
You know most everyone. You really know them if they are the DARE cop.
My son told me at first they thought he was joking. When he got close they smelled the beer.

We will talk to someone. Just not sure who yet.
It was all I could do not to call the mayor tonight!
  • I agree with Lena that he should be reported. Is there not another police officer on duty that you could call?
  • Good for the boys for saying NO. That's the one (and best) positive thing to come out of the incident.

If in fact it *was* a test, they passed with flying colors. Even though I'm sure you're scared out of your wits, you have to be proud of them. If it was, in fact, a test, you can find that out when you report him. If, in fact, it was a test, I don't think they (the police) can perform such a test without the parent's approval beforehand.

I still say report the incident. If it was a test, you'll be relieved. If it wasn't, you'll be helping to keep kids safe.
  • I would definitely call the mayor. Even if nothing is done you will have done your part to make them aware of the problem. My step father worked in law enforcement all his life and I have never heard of a "test" like this.
  • That is absolutely disgraceful! I agree that this should be reported!! What a shame that anyone, let alone an officer would do such a thing.
  • OMG - that's crazy! I'd report it - for sure.
