I have a sinus infection and a cold. I am taking antibiotics. I was wondering if I should lay off working out at the gym or go tomorrow if I go to school. Basically I feel ok from the neck down....just tired.
Should I wait?? Should I go?? I stayed on the diet plan today even though I was sick but I want to work out.
I remember reading ages ago a post from 2frustrated, who said she follows the "above the neck" rule. That if the symptoms are in the head, still work out, albeit a bit slower and take it easy.
I follow this myself and find that I feel better if I work out when I have a head cold, but I don't seem to get them very often now I eat well.
Have you found your colds etc....have decreased as you have lost weight and changed your eating, included exercise etc??? I actually think this cold/sinus infection is less than I would of had a month ago.....sound crazy?
Anyway I saw several articles about the "neck up" rule after I posted this. It says if you have a cough or fever however stay away. My cough is not too bad just from (sorry to be blunt) drainage.
I might try it tomorrow just to see how it feels.
When I had the flu a month ago I did not work out when I was really sick, but I did start to come back to it earlier than I might otherwise. The first day I got back on the treadmill, I coughed up a storm. But I decided to keep going and walked... albeit much more slowly than I had been.
I found that I was in better shape and had more stamina sick than I had when I weighed 50 pounds more last summer!
I would say listen to your body. If you're working out and feel really bad (llike you're going to faint), it's probably time to quit! But if you can go, go. Just be careful.

If you are taking antibiotics I wouldn't work out heavily for the purpose that your body is trying to fight something and may need to concentrate on that rather than healing your body after a workout. You might want to take some leisurly walks though that wouldn't be too stressful on the body.
I had the stomach flu a few weeks ago and I just couldn't bring myself to work out..uggghh. I just felt so weak and had those all over body aches...there was just no way I could have. A few weeks before that...(yeah...the sick bug is hitting me big time this year)...I had a cold....I was able to work out with that...(all except one day I think). It just made it a lot harder for me to "breathe" with the moves...etc....because my nose was so full..lol. I guess if you're feeling up to it...go ahead and try it....but make sure it's not something super intense...take it slow and just do what you can do. Like some of the others said...if you work out too intensely....you may be wearing your body down even more and you may relapse or not get well as quickly.

I've had an awful sinus infection and possioble tooth infection (major facial swelling) the past week and have been on meds for it, and I haven't exercised at all. I usually work out at least 4-5 times a week, so this is a big change. It takes a lot to get me on meds and in bed, so I took that as a sign that my body really needed to concentrate its energy internally for awhile. I have to go on another round of abx today, but I plan on getting in an easy workout for the first time in over a week.
Listen to your body and don't push it.
I'd walk, but don't push yourself too hard. I find it helps clear my head up faster, gets those juices moving! heh.
On that antibiotic thing, how do you eat?? I am on antibiotics for a toe infection, and I get this nasty metally taste in my mouth. Everything tastes pretty nasty and I only eat so I can take more antibiotics. I drink as much water as I possibly can, I can't wait for the grossness to go away!
