High Protein low fat foods...that taste good?

  • I need to try to encorporate some lowfat high protein foods into my diet, any suggestions?
  • Well, egg whites. Fat-free cottage cheese and other fat-free dairy. Lean cuts of meat and fish. Things like that.

The key is MAKE them taste good. Experiment with new recipes

YES! You can do countless things with a boneless, skinless chicken breast or even with egg whites. Try mixing some ff cottage cheese with some slivers of almond and some berries (you can buy frozen berries so they last longer). Do you like tuna? That's another excellent source (with ff mayo or another light dressing, of course). I like to eat turkey burgers--much cheaper than buying extremely lean beef. For snacks, maybe some nuts (almonds are supposed to be great for you)--they have a bit of fat, but it is GOOD fat (your body NEEDS some fat in order to absorb many nutrients). Or another snack idea: roll up some sandwich meat and a little cheese--eat plain or dip in mustard. I haven't had it, but some people here swear by the turkey pepperoni, so you could try that, too, maybe with a piece of low-fat string cheese. Just off the top of my head...
  • Shrimp! We buy the big bags of precooked frozen shrimp at Costco and add them to just about everything (salads, pasta, rice you name it) Tasty, lots of protein and almost no fat.

Mmmm, me too, I buy those bags of shrimp as well. I put them mostly on my salads.
  • I buy boneless/skinless chicken breasts and use them for all sorts of meals. Veggies that have protein in them are usually low-fat 2.3g protein, 22 calories, and .3g fat in half a cup of broccoli. I also substitute ground turkey for any kind of beef thing I would make(7% fat usu.). I'm lactose intolerant so cheese/milk/yogurt are all not options for me, I round out my daily protein intake with a 90 calorie, 0 fat, 23gprotein shake in the morning and sometimes Instone pudding(20g protein, 100 calories, I think 1-2g fat) in the evenings if I want something sweet but need to bolster my daily protein count. Lean steak is good too if you can afford it, or deli meats of decent quality.

Boneless/skinless chicken breast has to be one of the most versatile foods on the planet

I use it for.... well, heck, TONS of stuff. From slapping one on my George Foreman grill to make myself a seriously yummy grilled chicken sandwich, to cutting it up in stir-frys to baking it in BBQ sauce or Hawaiian marinade or one of my favorites, baking it in pineapple salsa.

I could eat chicken every day!

Where do you get pineapple salsa?..That sounds delicious! Do you just cover the chicken breast and bake it? yum-o!
  • My favorite source of protein is a small can of tuna (packed in water), sprinkled with red-wine vinegar (no oil). Yummmmmmm
