Default anyone on the south beach diet?

I already posted on the SBD forum but I wanted to see if any of you guys were following it and maybe if you knew the answer to my question. Thanks!

I first tried the SBD with my mom last summer and lost about 7 pounds in phase 1. Now I'm back and I'm stickin' to it! Have any of you stayed on phase 1 for more than the 2 weeks? A friend of mine stayed on p1 for about 5 weeks and lost about 15 lbs. I was thinking about doing the same thing just b/c it will give me a lot of motivation...good or bad idea?

I've been doing SB since November, but first tried it in July.

I think it's kind of up to you to stay on P1 for more than the two weeks.

Just see how your body feels. You will still continue to lose after switching to P2 anyways. It just won't come off as fast, and the great thing about SB is the weight you lose, staYs off!

Hey! I do South Beach!

Staying on P1 for more than 2 weeks is usually a pretty bad idea and one of the biggest traps SBers fall into. The weight you lose in P1 is almost all water weight--it's not until P2 that you start burning fat.

It's definitely tempting to stay in P1...you're used to the weight dropping quickly, and it's scary to sart adding the good carbs back, but sticking to P1 more than 2 weeks is bad for your body and among other things slows down your metabolism...so that your body desperately tries to hang on to your fat instead of burning it! And that's not what you want, right?!

A lot of people who stick to P1 past the 2 weeks find that their weight loss just stalls because there's no more water weight to lose, and once they switch to P2 that it's harder for them to lose because they've damaged their metabolism (which can be fixed, but that takes time)....and according to one of the Daily Dishes put out by SB, people who stick to P1 also are more likely to fall off the wagon or yo-yo diet. And that's not what you want--you want to make this a new way of eating, where losing weight comes naturally and without a struggle, and where it's gone for good!

The best way to go is to slowly start adding the new carbs to your diet after the 2 weeks of P1 are up...a lot of people call it "Phase 1.5". :-) Add some fruit, or some whole wheat toast, and see what happens.

Good luck!

I've been on phase 1 for 2 months now, and I feel fine...although, I was on Atkin's a long time ago, so it's not that hard for me. I'm going to start adding little carbs back in when I hit the 299 mark.

Im on the South Beach. I like you considered staying on Ph1 for more than the two weeks. But I just found the thought of fruit too tempting. But the moderators on the SBD board will tell you that you lose more weight on Phase 2 than on Phase 1. So far I have done well on Phase 2. I lost 12 pounds on phase one and switched to phase two about a month ago.

One thing I do to keep my carb cravings in check is to eat pasta maybe once a week or not at all. I also try to keep it down to 1 fruit and 1 carb per day. I usually have an orange and maybe some cereal in my yogurt or a tortilla for dinner. Maybe even a pita pizza with tomato sauce and cheese.

Good Luck!
