Unhappy I cried at the mall

Saturday was my wedding anniversary, 1 year. Me and Mark (dh) were very excited that we were going to get all dressed up and go this really fancy restaraunt, no baby! We havn't gone out to dinner since my son was born b/c it's a huge hassle to try and eat fast b4 he gets cranky.
Anywho . . . I wanted it to be very special so I went to the mall to get something nice to wear. I WENT TO EVERY STORE!!!! I couldn't find anything that fit! All I wanted was a nice black skirt or pair of dressy pants and a sexy top that I could also wear on christmas eve. I was there for 2 hours and litterally went in every store that had clothes!
I left the mall in tears b/c I wasn't able to fit into anything cute.
!st of all, I must say that there is something terribley wrong with the clothing industry! How many women are 6 feet tall and a size 1? I'm only 5'2", I'm a size 14. They seem to think that as you get wider, you must also get taller! And my boobs are so gargantuan that they were flying madly out of every shirt I tried on!
I came home and ended up puting on jeans and a sweater. Mark said I looked good, but I really didn't FEEL good.
Then we ate so much I wanted to explode and felt even worse about myself.
Ok, I'm done now. Thanks for listening.

I'm sooo sorry. I know how frustrating clothes are. I haven't bought a single dress up thing in YEARS. I live in Old Navy jeans and t-shirts.
Anyway, you still had a good time with your husband right ? That's what's important. And CONGRATULATIONS on your anniversary!

I totally understand how you feel. I hate going shopping because I can never seem to find anything. I hope you were still able to have a good time with your husband and enjoy your anniversary.

Can i add another perspective! I am 5 11 and cannot in my lifetime find pants that are long enough, or jumpers that even reach near my wrists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my SIL is short and she buys 3/4 pants as long(and can get away with it), and the only choice i have is to buy mens for the length! Last night i wore mens pj bottoms and they fit! (length wise) DH thought that the fact i had a fly hilarious!
It is ok in summer, but in winter! it looks ridiculous!
What happened to the different sizings...
ie 14s (shorter length) 14L(long).... bring them ALL back!
I have a small bust, and cannot fill most cross over style shirts...
Don't they realise we ALL come in different sizes and shapes! Sometimes i can wear a size 18 bottom (i am pear shaped) and a size 12 top!

I hope you still had a great anniversary, congratulations! Its good to get out away from the kids once in a while!

I'm sorry that seemed to put a damper on your night. It seems crazy that the clothing indusrty makes clothes based on the one model they had their that day. It seems rediculous since we see stats all the time how America is obese and then they only make clothes for the ideal. It makes me angry that you couldn't find something that fit you right. I don't know who wears these clothes! I hope that you had a great anniversary anyway. And congrats on one year!!!

My heart goes out to you...
Who hasn't cried a bucket of tears in the mall? Shopping used to be my favorite thing to do...but it's just too painful to do! I've also been to nearly every store in the mall, I've walked into stores wondering if I'd find anything to fit me, and I've been stressed over the fact that at a size 14 I was too big for the clothes I liked and too small for plus sized clothing. It's definately been a hate-hate relationship with me and malls.

Even now that I've lost some weight, I'm still tramautized from my past experiences and it's kept me away from shopping.

I completely understand everything you said. I know it was a dissapointing experience for you, but you are successfully losing weight, you have a cute cute baby, and you have a wonderful hubby! You have so many wonderful things to be happy about.

Don't be too discouraged (for long) you're one step closer to where you want to be than you were yesterday.

A husband who went with you on a 2-hour trip in the mall? At least that's something to be thankful for on your anniversary!

Seriously, though--that definitely stinks about the pants getting longer as they get wider. Is there a tailor in your area? I know that I've got a few pairs of pants with hems that would be dragging behind me if I hadn't gotten them hemmed up.

So sorry to hear about the mall episode. Don't get down. We all know how stupid clothing sizes are.

I think you should try out HealthyChick's idea of getting a tailor. I have a few shorter friends who have to get all of their pants hemmed.

I hear ya about the mall. Baby fat just sticks and falls back in the wrong place. I feel great about my body and then I go try on a size that I am ready for and....nope ain't gonna fit. I truly despise shopping now, but maybe someday I will be the same size all the way around.

It's funny b/c a few weeks after I had Allen I was feeling SO sexy! Obviously, I wasn't preggo anymore! I was like, yay! i'm skinny! I'm skinny!
But now that he's 5 mos old and I'm not much smaller, and still the biggest I've been, I almost miss being pregnant! At least then I had a reason for being so big!

I totally understand!! I cannot tell you how many times I have left the mall in tears or started crying in the dressing room. It totally SUCKS!!

My biggest problem has been being on the CUSP of plus size clothes. The regular 14s/16s are just a bit to tight and the "plus size" 14s/16s are big and awkward looking. One of those fabulous lose - lose situations!
There is nothing like being in the mall and having the sales girls at the Gap give you dirty looks because they think you are too fat to be there, only to go into Lerner and have the sales girls there give you dirty looks because you are too skinny to be in there. WTF? You know?

I know! I went to my old favorite store (which is sorta a high school hottie girl store) and I got looks! I'm pushing my baby in and everybody's looking at me like I don't belong there! At any rate, no part of me was squeezing into those clothes! I walked into Layne Bryant, and they looked at me like I was insulting them! All I was trying to do was buy a damn skirt!! It was so irritating! I'm going to cut leg holes in a garbage bage and wear it to my next fancy ngiht out! Poo on the clothing industry!!!!

i went into one store before and couldn't find anything in my size and actually asked the sales lady if they carried anything in a 14 and she replied "No we don't carry anything that large" Thanks for rubbing it in my face!!! I hate shopping.
Congrats on your anniversary. I'm sure you looked smashing

Congrats on your anniversary.

That size 14 mark is hard...

Silly mall stores. Have you tried places like Kohl's or Target?

What about JC Penny? Cheap (or relatively so) and they carry 16's which is what I wear.

I have an office party on Friday and I haven't lost a pound and refuse to buy 18's (16s are tight) again. I have a feeling that I will be a puddle on the floor of the dressing room, in tears.
