At the top of the forums it says to only buy Halloween candy on Halloween day (so we can resist eating the candy.) But I have another method - I only buy candies that I hate. I hate coconut so I bought mounds and almond joys. I am a purest, so I bought "inside out" peanut butter cups.
Our neighbor hood is so popular for Trick-o-Treating that we run out of candy every year. I just could not see waiting until after work on Monday to buy candy. So I "tricked" my self into staying away from the sweet stuff by buying items I wouldn't eat in a million years.
Thankfully, my youngest (age 14) is too old to go out and bring Mommy what see really wants -- any traditional milk or dark chocolate candy or peanut butter with chocolate candy.
What are you doing keep the "TRICK" out of Halloween?????????
This is what I bought this year: Halloween pencils, funny straws, small packs of raisins, and like you, candy that doesn't tempt me. I detest anything "gummy" and not crazy about Starburst, so I bought both of those. Also some kind of fizzy stuff. I figure the kids will get enough chocolate from everyone else, and there's no way I could have sacks of it around my house.
I just cancelled Halloween this year. Don't have kids, don't have to worry about it. Not going to spend the money on candy or treats, not going to deal with the temptation. I'll come up with somewhere to be on Monday night, so I don't even have to deal with the doorbell.
I guess I'm lucky that I don't really buy candy because I live in an apartment house and we're on 3rd floor. No one ever comes to our door. So no need for the candy. In past years when I was in my first marriage, I always took the kids out and there was no need to buy it because we were never home to pass it out.
But if I were going to buy some candy, I would either buy stuff that I didn't like or better yet, I would just have the DH hide it all until it's time to pass it out. That way there is no temptation. Out of sight out of mind.
Plus I don't have to worry about my 3 year old bringing it home because well, frankly the only candy she will eat is gummi bears. So I don't bother taking her out because I don't want to eat the candy. I know.. I'm a meanie for not taking her. Besides, I don't really have many houses to take her too. I'll just load her up on gummi bears and cheez it crackers. She'll be in heaven.
We do the "hiding" thing...out of sight, out of mind. No bowls of candy on the table! Plus, I bought cheap candy that I'm not real fond of. PROBLEM: we hid it in the closet, and the closet door was left open, and the dog found it...gross mess...fortunately, he only got into one small bag, so there's not much replacing to do.
I found 40 count boxes of single serve microwave popcorn. The bags you pop them in are decorated for halloween and are really cute. Found these at Sam's club for $9 a box. Keeps me away from all that yummy chocolate
