Why aren't I losing weight?

  • This is the 2nd time I've tried phase I. The first time, I cheated a few times, so I extended the 2 weeks by another week - so I did 3 weeks total. I know the reason I didn't lose weight was because I cheated too often.

So, on August 16, I tried again. Last week, I did so well! I couldn't wait for my Tuesday weigh-in. I lost NOTHING! My clothes aren't fitting better or anything. I feel like I'm doing ok. I haven't gone out to eat during the week. My ONLY slip up (that I was aware of) was at the church potluck on Sunday evening.

I'm so discouraged. It seems like my husband is losing weight on this diet, but I'm just spinning my wheels. We eat the same things!

I've started doing a 20 minute Total Gym machine workout each morning. Hoping that will boost my body into burning fat. I want to give up but I've seen so many around me have such great success. Why am I failing?

  • Post several days worth of menus. Also give us your height and current weight. If you don't have much to lose then it does take longer but maybe we will spot something in your menu.
  • Andrea~~Hang in there OK? It's only been one week and maybe the day you weighed in was a water retention one. Be carful to keep your sodium intake down as this will cause you to retain the fluid. Drink plenty of water, too. Also, could it be that time of month for you? Don't give up
  • Thanks, Barbara. I have "meal suggestions" at home (I make a list of meal items that I use to buy things at the grocery store), but I don't really have any menus listed. It might be a good exercise for me, though. Something might pop up that I didn't think about originally.

I noticed your counter on another post and I am really impressed at your progress! I'm sure you're quite an inspiration to those around you.
  • Water Water Water and then some more Water

I have had to watch for hidden sodium in what I make and buy --this has helped me a bit this time on phase 1. I also make sure that while cooking I make my DH taste stuff for me so that I am not the one getting those tasters calories.

Definitely don't give up!! It may just take your metabolism a bit to kick into gear possibly and you'll really see a huge difference in the coming weeks.
  • Andrea,

Don't give up. I Think Barb0522 has a good point! Sometimes you aren't even aware that you are eating too much of one thing or maybe something that isn't OP. Plan and keep track of everything that you put into your body for a few days. You may amaze yourself! I know I did. I thought I was being so perfect, and I found out when I went back and looked at everything that I wasn't even NEAR perfect.

    Don't forget the water!

Hang on...that scale will be your friend again!
  • Quite often we find that people aren't eating the 4 1/2 cups of vegetables a day. They may be eating too many nuts or too much cheese. But we're always glad to try to help out.
  • Anderooni, please post some menus for us. Inevitably, you're probably eating something that is a problem or not eating enough of something. When someone posts their menus, we can usually figure out the problem very quickly.

That said, if you are feeling up to it, try some mild exercise. And make sure you measure your inches too...that can be a help in figuring out what's going on. If you are losing inches, but not pounds, you are converting fat into muscle, which is a great thing!

Don't give up, hon...you can do this! But do count 2 weeks from your slip up, okay?
  • Hi all,
Thanks for the words. I've realized that I haven't had one PERFECT SBD day yet. I always get tempted by something that is around. I'm not hungry - I just want it.

I need to figure out what is within me that is preventing me from having the willpower to do what I need to do. There has got to be a trigger that I can help control myself.
  • Finding the trigger is the hard part!! Good luck!! I realized mine, it is getting to a certain number on the scale...then I try to sabotauge myself as I am afraid of success for a lot of reasons...but this time I am aware so i will be prepared when I get to that spot!!! (thanks to all the great support here!!)
  • For me, the key to keeping OP has been the keen desire to be a good example for my toddler. His eating habits are pretty good, for a toddler, and I want it to stay that way. So when I find myself craving something really naughty, I think "Do I want it bad enough to risk not just diabetes myself, but for DS too?" You can guess the answer there - NOTHING tastes as good as having a healthy me and a healthy DS feels! However, everyone has to find their own motivation (and I don't mean that all you moms who don't find my motivation works for you are bad moms - not in the least!).

It is possible that you aren't eating enough calories, or enough of the right calories. Also, if you are cheating a teensy bit here and a tad bit there, it isn't going to break the carb addiction and clean you out, which is the point of ph1. That might be all that it is. Also, drinking a lot of water and exercising will help a lot, too.

Good luck! Let us know how you are doing!
