Post Need some Advice

Hi. My name is Amy and I'm from Charlotte, NC. I've recently gained 20 lbs in less than 6 mos. I've been diagnosed with hypothyroid and am officially in menopause. I'm 46. Needless to say I got an elliptical trainer for my birthday.

I've tried atkins, south beach, my own and even WW over the years and I keep coming back to WW. I'm thinking of joining online. My job makes it hard to do meetings.

Anyone out there had much luck with WW and slow thyroid and/or menopause?

I'm really feeling down about my size. Nothing fits and I feel so fat. I now have almost 40 lbs to lose.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just want to be healthy again!

Thanks,
Amy

I personally don't have a slow thyroid, but a friend of mine has lost about 35-40 pounds on WW with a slow thyroid. It's definately doable. Good luck!

Amy, I was diagnosed with a slow thyroid about six months ago. I now take 112 mcg of levothyroxine a day and follow WW. I'm in my third week and I've lost 7.8 pounds so far, with a long way to go. The thyroid med alone didn't help with my weight (which so many people said it would), but it did help with my energy level and lethargy. I think if i hadn't been on it, I wouldn't have had the mental energy I needed to join WW. I'm 43 and while I don't think I'm in menopause yet, I do believe I'm in perimenopause. Give WW a try. It can be a life saver.

I was diagnosed hypothyroid when I was 18 (34 now)...no diet ever worked for me until I decided to do WW and started taking my meds regularly

I suffer from hypothyroidism, and also have found that I did not lose weight once my medicine was regulated. I started WW in January with 30 pounds to lose, and have lost nearly 25 so far.

Hi, I'm 44 and have been on a low dose of synthroid for about 6 years. I've been doing WW Core, as well. I do go to meetings, though, and I think that has made the difference for me, although some people might not need it. Weight loss has been slow, but steady. I find that exercise is critical--the weeks I don't get enough, I don't lose.
